The staircase in the house is not only a functional structure that connects the floors, but also one of the most noticeable elements of the interior. By design, the stairs can be divided into three main types: marching, on bolts and screw. Let's describe each type.
Types of stairs
Marching
This is the most popular and convenient design used wherever there is enough space. This name is given to this type of stairs because they consist of separate flights, each of which can have from 3 to 15 steps. If the number of steps is greater, the marches are separated by intermediate platforms.
Such stairs can be:
- One-, two- or multi-march.
- Open (without risers) and closed (with risers).
- Straight and swivel. If the next march after the landing has a different direction, the staircase is called a turning staircase.
It is often installed along two adjacent or parallel walls, and a built-in wardrobe or utility room is arranged under the stairs. - With intermediate platforms or winders. Winder steps instead of a platform are used to save space. They are irregular in shape with a narrow inner and wide outer edge.
But the main difference lies in the design of the supporting beams and the type of fastening of the steps.
- Ladder with bowstrings... Bearing beams (bowstrings) are thick and wide bars that cover the ends of the marches. On the inside, grooves are arranged in them, into which the steps are inserted.
- Staircase with stringers... The oblique bearing beams have a stepped shape. The steps are laid directly on the horizontal ledges of the kosour, and the risers are attached to the vertical ones.
For reference. Stringed staircases look rough, as the ends of the steps remain in plain sight. They are more suitable for country or Provence style rooms.
On the bolts
Bolz is a fastener with which railings and stair treads are attached to the walls.... Such a staircase looks light and weightless, allowing you not to clutter up the space. But it can only be located along the wall.
Despite the apparent fragility of the structure, the professionally mounted ladder on the bolts has a reliable and durable structure, it is very comfortable and safe.
For reference. Since there are no connections of wooden elements with each other in this construction, the stairs never creak on the bolts.
Screw
Spiral staircases are not the most convenient for movement, but when there is not enough space in the room to install a straight staircase, such structures help to save space..
The main feature of spiral staircases is the fastening of all steps to the central post, which is played by a wooden post or a metal pipe. The steps are wedge-shaped and are attached to the rack with the narrow side. In this case, the wide side is attached to walls or balusters.
The spiral staircase can be of any shape - round, six- or octagonal, square. It can be placed either against the wall or in any free area of the room.
Materials for making stairs
The frames and railings of intra-apartment stairs are most often made of wood or metal. There are more varied materials for the manufacture and facing of steps. It can be wood of different species, ceramic tiles, granite, marble, and other natural stone.
