Tomato Jaguar F1: description and agricultural technology

Gardeners are trying to pick up varieties tomatoresistant to fungal and viral diseases. Often they give preference to Dutch hybrids, which, although they do not always have high taste, allow them to harvest a good harvest in all weather conditions. One such tomato is the Jaguar F1 hybrid.

Description of the variety

Description of the variety

Tomato Jaguar F1 is a relatively new hybrid of early ripening. Under good conditions, the first fruits ripen within 85 days after planting the seedlings. If summers are cold, this period can extend up to 105 days.

The hybrid belongs to tall varieties indeterminate type.

Tomatoes are rounded, flattened, with barely noticeable ribs. The color is bright red. Almost all fruits grow to the same size, and one weighs about 180 g. Fruits have excellent taste. Suitable both for fresh use, for preparing salads, and for canning and salting. Tomatoes of this variety can be picked at the stage of green ripeness. They keep well, gradually ripening. In this case, the green stalk also turns red.

A valuable feature of the variety is its resistance to many fungal and viral diseases. They are resistant to verticillium and fusarium wilting, weakly affected late blight, cladosporiosis, botrytis (gray rot) and tobacco mosaic virus. Plants are resistant to damage by a dangerous pest - root nematode. Tomato Jaguar F1 was created for growing in film greenhouses and open field. It tolerates a drop in temperature well.

Growing tomato seedlings

Growing tomato seedlings

Seeds of hybrids, processed using a special technology and painted with a bright color, do not need pre-sowing soaking and dressing. They are sown directly into the prepared soil.

The soil for sowing tomato seeds should be loose and nutritious.

You can use peat-sand compost. You can take ordinary land from a garden or vegetable garden (but not from the site where nightshades grew last year), mix it with half the volume of sawdust. Add wood ash (half a liter jar in a bucket of soil). Add superphosphate well (3-4 tablespoons). Drainage is required.

If the seedlings are grown in a room, use low boxes. Prepared soil is poured onto the drainage layer, grooves are made in it, seeds are sown in them. Lightly crush with earth and compact so that the seeds, germinating, do not raise the soil layer.

Seedling care tips:

  • The box with the sown seeds is covered with glass or plastic wrap and placed in a warm place. Every day they ventilate and see if the soil is dry. If necessary, sprinkle with warm water.
  • Good lighting is not required at this stage. But as soon as the seeds hatch and sprout, the box with seedlings must be placed in the brightest place. This usually happens on the 5th day.
  • The room temperature should be lowered to 12-15 ° C, and at night to 8 ° C. This will prevent the seedlings from pulling out, which often occurs in low light and high temperatures. Moreover, she will be tempered. A week later, when the seedlings get stronger, they can be grown at a temperature of 18-20 ° C. At night it should be lower, about 10 ° C.
  • After the seedlings form a second true leaf, their dive in separate dishes, plastic or even glass glasses. You can use peat briquettes. If you run out of separate dishes, you can cut the remaining seedlings into deep boxes at a distance of about 5 cm from each other. You can use plastic, from under vegetables, the bottom and walls of which are covered with newspapers. The soil will not be able to fall out of such a box, and excess moisture will easily go through the paper. This form of planting is convenient because it is easy and convenient to take them out into fresh air for hardening. Usually, when diving, part of the seedling root comes off. If this does not happen, you need to pinch it off manually. This will contribute to the formation of a powerful root system. When planted in cups, the earth is poured not to the top. About 4 cm is left in order to add soil with the growth of plants. This is done every 10 days. If there are a lot of seedlings, 2 plants are planted in each pot. When it becomes clear which one is stronger, the second instance is cut off at soil level.
  • Top dressing is carried out every 10 days. Nitrogen fertilization will make the seedlings grow faster. This is not always appropriate. Such fertilizers are used only when the seedlings are lagging behind in growth for some reason. But phosphorus fertilizers are needed for young tomatoes. You can put a couple of nitrophoska grains in each pot. Then add earth and water the plant.
  • From fungal diseases a few days before planting, spill with a pink solution of potassium permanganate.

Planting tomato Jaguar F1 in the ground

Planting tomato Jaguar F1 in the ground

When growing Dutch tomatoes, which include the Jaguar F1, you need to follow some recommendations in the greenhouse:

  1. The soil should warm up to 16 degrees. The temperature is measured a few centimeters deep into the garden, where the root system will be located.
  2. During the day, the air in the greenhouse should warm up to 20 ° С, and at night it should not cool below 16 ° С.
  3. For watering use drip irrigation... If it is not possible to install it, water only at the root, without getting on the leaves and stem.
  4. Jaguar F1, as an indeterminate variety, needs to be tied to supports. Therefore, the height of the greenhouse must be sufficient to accommodate them.

When grown outdoors, supports for indeterminate varieties are also needed. Tomatoes are planted at a distance of 70 cm from each other and the same distance is left between the rows. This will allow air to pass freely between the plants, lowering humidity and reducing the risk of fungal diseases.

If there is a threat that the Colorado potato beetle will attack the plant, the larvae of which can destroy the plant in a couple of days, the roots of the seedlings are soaked for 2 hours in Aktara's solution. A sachet of the product is diluted in 2 liters of water. Such treatment will reliably protect tomatoes from beetles until autumn.

Tomato care

Tomato care

The Jaguar F1 hybrid is self-pollinating. But when growing it in a greenhouse, you need to give access to bees for pollination. Therefore, the doors and vents of the greenhouse should be kept open whenever possible.

How to properly care for tomatoes:

  1. Water the tomatoes 2 times a week. 2 buckets of warm water are poured per square meter. It is harvested in advance so that the sun can warm up well. Water is applied at the root, without getting on the leaves.
  2. The stepsons are constantly removed and the tops of the tomatoes are tied up. After the formation of the ovary, the leaf under it can be removed.
  3. In order to get a high yield of tomatoes, they need to be fed. You can alternate the application organic and mineral fertilizers... An infusion solution can serve as organic mullein or chicken droppings... For this, 1 kg of dry fertilizer is poured with a bucket of water and allowed to brew for a week. Then a liter of the resulting infusion is taken in a bucket of clean water and the plants are watered. Before feeding, they need to be watered so that the fertilizers do not burn the roots. For fertilizing with mineral fertilizers, a composition of superphosphate, potassium salt and urea is used. For the prevention of fungal diseases, add 2 g of copper sulfate to a bucket of water. The amount of superphosphate is increased from 10 to 30 g with subsequent feeding. Potassium salt is enough 20 g, urea 10 g.
  4. Weeds are removed regularly. The aisles are kept clean. This also prevents fungal infections. Sometimes they are mulched with freshly cut grass.
  5. The hybrid is almost not affected by fungal diseases, but for prevention it needs to be processed 3 times per season fungicides, for example, "Quadris", "Strobi".

If the summer in the growing region of the Jaguar tomato is long and dry, the fruits can be kept on the bushes until fully ripe. They will be tastier than those picked green. But in areas with short cold summers, it is better to remove them when browning. This will speed up the process of maturation of the rest. Jaguar F1 is an indeterminate variety. The plant stretches upward and bears fruit until frost kills it. You can pinch the top so that the new tomatoes do not knit, and the old ones ripen more quickly.

Put the tomatoes in boxes of two or three and wait for them to ripen. If you put a few ripe fruits with green fruits, they will ripen faster. If you need to keep them green as long as possible, remove the red ones from the box.

I feed the tomatoes, first with nitrogen fertilizers, so that the seedlings rise quickly, and then with ammophos, so that the fruits set well. I spray it from the fungus with the always ecologically safe preparation Fitosporin.
