Description of the variety

Tulip cultivar Fabio of medium flowering period. Height can reach 60 cm, but in winter or spring forcing, amateurs usually only 40 cm.

The shape of the Fabio tulip flower resembles a glass 11 m high and 10 cm in diameter.

The petals are painted in a rich bright red, and there is a yellow fringe along the edge. Thanks to her, the flowers look like tongues of flame.

Like all fringed tulips, Fabio stays in the cut for a long time. Its petals are wind and rain resistant. In the open field, it blooms for two weeks. In the open field, the Fabio tulip blooms in mid-May. Plants can be planted in groups or combined with hazel grouse, muscari, primroses, daffodils, anemones.

Reproduction and planting

Breeding features

Tulip propagates by bulbs and seeds... But plants grown from seeds do not retain the characteristics of the variety. Therefore, it makes no sense to grow them in this way.

The tulip bulb is a shoot with a special structure.

The bottom of the bulb is a stem, but shortened. Modified leaves - scales - depart from it. Some of them are juicy, white. They store stocks of nutrients for the future flower. The integumentary scales are dark, dry. They protect the bulbs from drying out and minor mechanical damage.

Roots grow out of the roller at the edge of the bottom when the humidity rises. Peduncle, leaves and flower are formed in the center of the bottom. And the scales serve as a place for the formation of daughter bulbs. They grow after the tulip has faded. At the same time, they use the reserves of juicy scales and substances obtained from the lower leaves. By the time of digging, the babies have the structure of an adult bulb, but smaller. Inside them there are rudiments of a stem, leaves and even a flower.

Features of planting flowers:

  • The place for planting the tulip Fabio is chosen sunny and protected from the northerly winds, where bulbous plants have not grown for the previous 5 years. It is undesirable to plant tulips after nightshades. Groundwater should not approach the soil surface closer than 70 cm.
  • The bulbs are planted in a nutrient soil that allows moisture and air to pass through to the roots. Its acidity is pH 6.5-7.5. If it is lower, the soil is deoxidized by adding a glass of lime per square meter of area.
  • The added sand and peat will help to make the soil loose. Humus or compost will provide a set of nutrients. Add mineral fertilizers: by glass wood ash and 100 g of complex mineral fertilizers. Fertilizers and additives are applied in advance, one month before planting tulips.
  • Fresh manure should not be used, which can burn the roots and contribute to fungal diseases. They dig up the soil with fertilizers applied to a depth of 35 cm.
  • Bulbs are processed fungicides to protect against fungal diseases.
  • You need to plant tulips starting in mid-September. You can more accurately determine the readiness of the soil by measuring its temperature. At a depth of 10 cm, it should not be higher than 10 ° C. It is necessary that the bulbs take root before frost from one to one and a half months. If the deadlines are violated, the site is mulched with peat or humus 10 cm high.
  • For cultivation, take large and small bulbs. Place them separately from each other. The depth of immersion in the ground depends on the size of the bulb and is equal to three times its height. The distance between neighboring large plants is 10 cm, between small ones - 5 cm.
  • Place the bulbs on the bottom of the hole without pressing in. Sprinkle with earth and level the surface so that rainwater does not stagnate in the holes.

For the winter, it is advised to cover the plantings. Although the Fabio tulip is frost-hardy, the shelter improves the quality of the flowers. With the onset of spring, it is removed.

Flower care

Flower care

In spring, shoots appear immediately after the snow melts. They loosen the soil in the aisles, giving air access to the roots and opening up the moisture on the site. Tulip Fabio does not need additional watering if at this time the soil is wet after winter. An exception would be watering before applying. mineral fertilizers, which must be carried out up to 4 times per season.
If the soil is dry, water the tulips with a bucket of water per square meter of area. Try not to get on the leaves. Insufficient amount of poured water contributes to the formation of a crust. It is better if the water is not very cold.

Everything you need to know about feeding:

  • Nitrogen fertilizers are applied for the first time. They can be scattered over the snow at the rate of 30 g / m2.
  • A complex mineral fertilizer diluted in water is applied for the second time. Repeat it during budding.
  • Two weeks after flowering, they are fed with phosphorus-potassium fertilizers.
  • Do not add preparations with a large amount of chlorine. It is advisable to use instant fertilizers with microelements, for example, "Aquarin", nitroammofosk.

After each watering and fertilization, the soil is loosened. This breaks the crust and removes weeds. During flowering, plants of other varieties are discarded and transplanted to another place.

Stagnant water in the area can lead to infection with gray rot and typhulosis.

You can prevent it by arranging drainage on the site. Bulbs are affected by a viral disease of variegation. It manifests itself in a change in the color of petals and leaves. Diseased plants are dug up and burned completely. If infected plants appear on the site, you need to cut flowers for a bouquet with a disinfected tool.

Cutting flowers without a peduncle promotes the formation of a large bulb. It is plucked at a time when the flower petals no longer close for the night and are about to crumble. In this case, the bulb will actively develop. The seeds will not be able to form, while taking on some of the nutrients. This process is called decapitation.

Digging and storing the bulbs

Digging out the bulbs

You can dig up tulip bulbs when their leaves begin to turn yellow and lodge. If you wait until they are completely dry, the daughter bulbs can get lost in the ground. In this case, the skin of the mother plant becomes thinner and disintegrates when excavated. Treated with a solution of potassium permanganate.

The bulbs are dried for a week at a high temperature, away from sunlight. At this time, the delicate protective scales dry out, darken and begin to protect against fungal diseases.

Before planting in the ground, dried bulbs are stored at a temperature of 18 ° C and a humidity of 70 °.

It is necessary to dig up adult Fabio tulip bulbs every year. If this is not done, they will go deep into the ground. After all, a shoot with a length of 3-4 cm sprouts from not dug down, at the end of which a new bulb will form. In a few years it will be impossible to dig it up. Children, planted separately, can be left in the same place for the second year. In the spring, they will form an adult bulb and bloom.

Forcing tulips Fabio

To get flowers in early spring or even for the New Year, distillation is used. tulips... Large bulbs are selected, the weight of which is not less than 25 g, and the diameter is 3.5 cm. They are stored for a month at a temperature of 18 degrees. Then the temperature is lowered to 9 ° C.Withstand 16-18 weeks. Then they are planted in a greenhouse. If the bulbs are not kept at low temperatures, or for an insufficient amount of time, the stem will not form or the bud will have an ugly shape.

To get flowers for the New Year, the bulbs are dug up a couple of weeks earlier than usual - they need to be planted in the ground in early October.

The dishes for growing a flower are filled with prepared soil to two-thirds of the height. Place the bulbs at a distance of 1.5 cm from each other. Fall asleep with earth to the top. Water it, hide it in a plastic bag and hide it in the cellar. The temperature there is about 9 degrees.

The tulip begins to sprout. When the height of the sprout reaches 5 cm, transfer the pot to the light. The temperature is gradually increased. Tulip Fabio will bloom in 3 weeks. For distillation by early March, the bulbs are dug out at the usual time. They keep it in the refrigerator for a month, from September to October. Then they are planted and kept in the cellar for 18 weeks.

Tulip Fabio was driven out by a neighbor in the country for the New Year. Very successful. He almost completely provides the annual income with tulip flowers for the New Year and March 8. Although "guessing" is not easy. Not for beginners. For beginners, he advises pasturing greens to earn money.

My neighbor is also engaged in pasture, but only by March 8 she usually grows. Insanely beautiful fluffy tulips fly away very quickly, he says that it is a pretty good addition to the family budget.

I don't think that the cultivation of this tulip variety is anything different from the cultivation of other types. The principle is the same. In general, the flower is beautiful and pleasantly pleasing to the eye in early spring.
