The selected varieties of tomatoes are the most unpretentious, frost-resistant, give a variety of fruits, even for canning, even for fresh consumption.

Preparation of material and soil

Preparation of material and soil

The planned cultivation method begins with the preparation of the barrel. Everyone has some kind of old metal container. Of course, you can replace the barrel with wooden boxes, an old tub. They get rid of the bottom of the container, and drill up to twenty centimeter holes on the sides to ensure the supply of fresh air to the plants.

A layer of urgas is laid out on the bottom of the metal container, which is previously prepared from food waste.

Watermelon peels, potato peels, egg shells, fish bones are also suitable. They are put under the press in advance for a week, so that all the liquid that is then used to feed the plants is gone. In order to strengthen the plantings, two tablespoons of Bokashi fertilizer are added. The layer of such a nutrient mass should be twenty to thirty centimeters.

From above, urgas is covered with ten centimeters of fertile soil consisting of peat, compost, humus. After the container and soil are prepared, seedlings can be planted tomato.

Terms and rules for planting tomatoes in barrels

Terms and rules for planting tomatoes in barrels

The process of planting a plant in a container begins in the middle of the last month of spring. And here it is necessary to follow a number of rules:

  1. The place for the barrel on the site is chosen sunny.
  2. Having chosen strong bushes of tall tomatoes, they are planted in the middle of the barrel, each in its own container.
  3. Before disembarking, they are removed from seedlings lower leaves, stepsons. The wounds are left to dry for two to three hours, then smeared with a soil mixture.
  4. Planting depth should be five centimeters.
  5. From above, the container is covered with a film to protect the seedling from night frosts.
  6. As soon as the plant stretches ten centimeters, add nutritious soil.

By the end of May - beginning of June, the barrel will be completely filled, and the stem will have a powerful root system... The film from above is no longer needed, it is removed. And pinching in the summer is no longer carried out, striving to ensure that there are as many branches as possible on the powerful tomato trunk. There should be from twenty to thirty with about ten ovaries.

In order to preserve the lashes stretching upwards, long poles are dug in near the barrel on both sides, tying shoots to them. You can stretch a wire between the supports with a mesh, which will allow the tomato branches to sit freely on it. Thanks to this method of growing tomatoes, a strong vegetable tree is formed from one seedling.

How to properly care for original plantings

How to properly care for original plantings

Taking care of a tomato tree is easy. This is done in the same way as for ordinary tomatoes:

  1. Plants are very fond of moisture, therefore, water the vegetable growing in a barrel should be watered abundantly. Many gardeners bury the tip of the hose deeper towards the roots, which makes it easy for moisture to flow to the plant. But at the same time it is necessary to ensure that the earth in the barrel does not become swampy, which will lead to rotting of the bush. Decrease the frequency glaze before the growing season of tomatoes.
  2. By the middle of summer, the tomato bush will lack food. To remedy the situation, a top dressing is prepared from the soil mixture, which is placed in another barrel, filling it with water in a ratio of 1: 5. It is better to take water from natural sources, and not from the tap. After insisting for a day, you can "serve lunch" to a tomato bush in the form of a nutritious chatterbox. The procedure is carried out at least twice a week. The biological product Optim-humus or Gumatem is considered an excellent fertilizer; it is applied once a month. With a noticeable fall of flowers from the bush, add phosphorus-potassium fertilizing to the nutrient solution.
  3. For better ripening of tomatoes, the leaves of the plant are tried to be taken away from the fruits or removed.
  4. Tomatoes bear fruit for a long time, they will bear the harvest until October. In the autumn cold, the bushes are covered with a special material.

For a compact technology for growing tomatoes, you do not need a lot of preparations, it does not take a long time, effort in obtaining a large harvest of tasty fruits.

Harvest time, advantages of the method

Harvest time, advantages of the method

Usually early ripening varieties are not planted in barrels, so only at the end of July - August can the first harvest of tomatoes be harvested. The bush will bear fruit for a very long time, and if you shelter it from the cold, then at the end of autumn you can still feast on fresh vegetables just plucked from the branches. Harvest tomato from one square meter will be about forty to fifty kilograms.

The advantage of this method of growing tomato bushes is that bushes with high yields can be grown in a small area. The metal of the barrel tends to heat up and keep it warm for a long time, which tomatoes are very fond of. And from below, where the process of decay of food debris is going on, they receive it as well.

It is much more convenient to care for plantings in barrels than for large plantations of vegetables.

Pests cannot get inside the dwelling of a tomato seedling. And neither caterpillars nor slugs will damage the crop. Since tall varieties receive more air in the container, their leaves, stems do not come into contact with the soil, they do not become infected late blight.
