Seed potatoes
Every spring, many people wonder which seed potatoes to choose. It is from a high-quality seed fund that a good harvest can be grown. In total, there are five varieties according to the ripening time of potatoes.
The earliest potatoes ripen from 80 to 100 days, but the latest, can exceed 140 days. The rest of the varieties are located in this interval with a gap of 10-15 days.
For successful cultivation of potatoes, it is necessary to combine potato varieties in cultivation. When choosing seed potatoes, you should pay attention to the fact that the variety would be nematode-resistant and crust-resistant.
If you need early potato crops, then you should choose Dnepryanka or Poran. Of course, these varieties must be combined with mid-early or mid-season. The first group includes such varieties as Levada, Zabava. But the second group includes such varieties as Slavyanka, Lilia and others.
When growing seed potatoes, you should carefully look after the bushes. If the bushes are affected by diseases, they should be removed. Such diseases include: ring rot, black leg, various kinds of mosaics and others. Before digging the seed potatoes, the tops must be cut 10 days in advance.
The harvested seed potatoes are dried outdoors for 10 days. Potato seeds are stored in boxes or other containers. The main thing is that the storage container should allow air to pass through and ventilate the air. Before planting, the tubers should germinate at a temperature of 15 degrees. This will speed up their development. When busting in spring, you should remove tubers with various kinds of damage.
They say that sometimes especially large tubers can be divided in two or more parts, as if this does not affect the yield. I tried, but I didn't notice much difference between planting a whole tuber and a cut into parts.
We also cut large potatoes, when planting, into several parts. There were always more potatoes in such bushes than where we planted small potatoes. Therefore, we never leave small potatoes for planting.
