This happens around mid-July - early August and depends on climatic conditions. If you are late with the terms of harvesting, the roots of the bulbs can grow back another time, which will ruin the presentation and taste.

Do not harvest onions immediately after rain or when the soil in the garden is wet. I dry it in a garden bed or in a room that is well ventilated. When the bulbs are dry, the dried feathers and roots are torn off or pruned. Do not prune wet bulbs because they can rot.

When choosing onion bulbs for storage, look at the integrity of their skins.

  • Place the onion rings on baking sheets, incubate at 50 degrees until they dry. When drying in the oven, do not completely close the door, otherwise the onion will not dry out, but will cook. It is necessary to provide air movement and access to the bow.

User avatar Daria

I keep a small amount of chopped onions in the freezer to save time in making soups. This does not change the taste of the onion. And usually I store onions at room temperature in a basket.

I have been cutting and drying onions in the oven for a long time, I didn't even think about it in the freezer. When you buy an onion in winter and it is frozen, it clearly does not cause an appetite, so the idea of freezing was dismissed immediately. But I store the frozen and shabby carrots in the freezer.

Onions are best stored in a cool, dry place. It is not desirable in the refrigerator, it will smell like it completely. I see no point in freezing either. I can always buy as much as I need in the store, I don't buy onions in bags.
