Planting and caring for crocuses
Most flower growers associate spring with the flowering of primroses, which include the beloved crocuses.
When even the grass has not really turned green around, how nice it is to see new shoots of life on your site!
How should crocus planting and care be carried out so that in early spring they endow you with flowering?
It should be said right away that crocuses are corms. Their preparation for planting and the planting itself in the garden should be carried out in the fall, because they should begin to bloom when the snow has not melted yet.
Soils should be chosen with a light structure, nutritious, with good drainage. The crocus area is suitable for dry and open to the sun.
Do not fertilize the soil with fresh manure, find a place for crocuses on an area where the soil is not swampy and the soil is not acidic. Before planting in the dug soil, apply a nutrient medium specifically designed for bulbous plants, as well as fertilizer for flowering plants to stimulate the flowering of plants in the spring.
This preparation of the soil mixture should be carried out about 10 days before the expected planting of crocuses.
The soil has been prepared, planting has been carried out, and crocus care will now only be required in the spring. It will consist in applying top dressing, weeding out weeds, watering, loosening the soil.
Top dressing of early crocuses is carried out by scattering directly onto the snow a mixture of nutrient soil for bulbous or humus (1 kg), wood ash (3 tablespoons) and nitrophoska fertilizer (1 tablespoon).
