How to properly plant a begonia tuber
Begonia is one of the most affordable, cute and not particularly demanding flowering plants that can be grown both indoors and in the garden.
But sometimes, even with simple plants, difficulties can arise. For example, due to improper planting, improper care, ignorance of the main diseases and pests, many plants can die. Therefore, always before planting a plant, you need to study its features.
If we talk specifically about begonias, then difficulties often arise with the correct planting of its tubers.
How to properly plant a begonia tuber
- At the time of purchase, do not take the first tubers you see. Give preference to those of them with a diameter of at least 3 cm. Tubers should be dense, smooth on top, well cleaned of soil so that you can see their surface for lesions.
- Begonia tubers can be cut into smaller pieces, which are planted separately. Look at the top of the tubers where the growth buds are visible and divide. Treat the cuts on the nodules with crushed charcoal from possible decay.
- Remove dry and dead roots from tubers before planting. To exclude a fungal infection, you can pre-soak the tubers in a solution of potassium permanganate or the drug "Maxim" for 30 minutes.
- How to properly plant begonia tuber in the ground? Loose and nutritious soils are preferred for begonias. Now you can buy ready-made substrate for begonias in any store.
- Be sure to pour drainage on the bottom of the pot, then soil. Place the tuber in a small hole, do not cover the top with earth, but leave it as it is. Then water the soil around the tuber. With proper care, sprouts appear very quickly.
It's very simple. The main thing is to choose the right tubers .. And just recently they wanted to sell begonias tubers to me, but they were all in the ground .. It confused me for a reason ..
I have been planting begonias in flowerpots for many years, but at first I grow tubers at home, in peat pots. I send them to the dacha in May and transplant them into vases. The flowerpots are very large, and I put styrofoam at the bottom to keep them warm and much less earth, and when they grow up, I mulch them with grass. Beauty and nothing else! Currently not buying. I divide the tubers into several parts. I have 30 of them.
