How is petunia sown for seedlings?
The Petunia flower is very much loved by many flower growers for its delicate and pleasantly sweet aroma, abundant and long flowering. Remember, even in the cartoon fairy tale "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" one of the heroes said with admiration: "He smells like petunias!" Petunia is an annual plant. Therefore, every year everyone buys petunia seedlings in the markets and in stores, and you can grow petunia yourself. How is petunia sown for seedlings?
Planting petunias should be done in early March. The soil in which the seed will be sown must be well moistened. The very land for petunias must be carefully prepared. It is best to prepare the following mixture: 2 parts of turf, 2 parts of humus, 2 parts of peat and 1 part of sand. All components must be thoroughly mixed and sieved twice through a sieve. The first time the earth for petunias is sifted through a coarse sieve. What is left in the sieve is used at the bottom of the seedling container. The second time the soil is sifted through a fine sieve, so the soil for planting seedlings of petunias becomes light, loose, saturated with oxygen.
Petunia seeds are small enough, and therefore it is best to mix them with sand before planting. Then this mixture is dispersed in a thin even layer over the surface of the container. Petunia seeds are not buried, leaving on the surface, and the container is covered with glass or plastic wrap. Thus, a certain microclimate is created and, most importantly, a constant soil moisture is maintained. Until the seeds hatch, and this will happen with good germination in about ten days, the soil should not be watered, but sprayed. Some gardeners advise planting petunia seeds in the snow, laying it on the surface of the earth in a pot. The melting snow will pull the seeds to the soil, as it were, leaving them on the surface.
The optimum temperature for growing petunia seedlings is 20-23 degrees. It is best to dive seedlings only when 4 leaves appear on the sprouts. Therefore, it is necessary to sow petunia seeds as rarely as possible.
Good luck!
