Experts confirm that a properly selected variety is only 10% of success in growing vegetables, since any plant needs to be provided with proper care and attention. Ultra-early ripening tomato varieties need a special soil, as the plants have to get all the necessary nutrients from the soil in a very short time.
Rules for feeding early maturing varieties
The most common practice is to grow early-ripening tomato varieties in greenhouses: this allows you to significantly extend the planting time and get the first harvest as early as possible. It is the early maturing varieties that are used in greenhouse cultivation for sale, which can become a profitable family business. One of the first rules is that the greenhouse must be well lit, and the owner must make sure that the plants have enough light.
The greenhouse should not be shaded by trees or buildings, so it is important to choose the right place for it.
Even in the fall, it is necessary to start preparing the soil: superphosphate and nitrogen fertilizers, dissolved in a bucket of water, are added to it. The soil must be loosened to a depth of 30 cm, but even then it must not be turned out.
Further, the fertilization schedule will look like this:
- At the end of March or at the beginning of April, the soil is dug up again, and a small amount of potash fertilizers is introduced into it. Seedlings can only be planted when the soil temperature reaches at least 10 degrees. For planting, you need to prepare seedlings, the age of which is 45-50 days.
- 10 days after disembarkation, you need to prepare a solution of nitrophoska in the amount of two tablespoons per 10 liters of water. The resulting solution is divided into 10 bushes and the plants are fertilized. Such a solution will need to be used again when flowers have already appeared, and the plants will need strength to form ovaries.
- At the beginning of fruiting, the last feeding is carried out: magnesium sulfate and potash fertilizers are used for it in small quantities. It is important to follow the dosage of the solution according to the fertilizer manufacturer's instructions.
With proper feeding, the plant will quickly complete its annual cycle, and you can get beautiful and tasty fruits in a short time.
Greenhouse plant care
For early maturing varieties, it is important not only to observe the feeding regime, but also to create the most comfortable conditions. Since these varieties are most often used in greenhouse breeding, several requirements must be observed when caring for greenhouses:
- Snow and ice should be removed from the surface of the greenhouse as thoroughly as possible. They not only impede the passage of sunlight and the heating of the greenhouse, but also increase the load on its frame.
- It is necessary to check the wall material of the greenhouse for chips and cracks, as well as monitor the condition of the supporting structures. For modern stationary greenhouses, cellular polycarbonate is more often used, but it also becomes less durable over time.
- It is important to ensure that the sashes fit as tightly as possible to each other. Most tomato varieties are sensitive to drafts, so cold air entering the greenhouse can have a detrimental effect on them.
- A sufficient amount of space must be left between the seedlings: the distance between the plants in one row should not be less than 20 cm, and between the rows of tomatoes - at least 40 cm. Planting is carried out when the air temperature in the greenhouse reaches 10 degrees. In the future, the air temperature will need to be controlled: during flowering during the day it should be at least 22 degrees, and at night it should not fall below 12 degrees.
An important tip: to increase the number of ovaries, experienced gardeners practice self-pollination of the bushes.
To do this, during flowering, you need to go through and lightly shake each flowering bush every two days. This will make it possible to significantly increase the yield from each bush, and at the same time, unnecessary labor costs are not required. The method is also good in that it allows you to preserve the basic qualities of each variety.
A few secrets of a good harvest of early maturing varieties
Ultra-early ripening tomatoes usually do not need to further accelerate the ripening of the fruit, but if desired, you can slightly reduce the waiting time. To do this, you will need a special intra-root top dressing: a small amount of boric acid, manganese sulfate, copper sulfate and zinc sulfate are diluted in 120 liters of pure water. The resulting solution must be used for spraying plants, and it is carried out only in the morning on a cloudy day.
Another secret: to accelerate ripening, you can use a weak iodine solution: diluting 20 drops of iodine in 10 liters of water, and plants are watered with this composition. This is a replacement for regular watering: there will be enough moisture in the soil, so there is no need to water the bushes with ordinary water after that.
To increase the flow of air and light, gardeners pluck the lower leaves of the plant.
They are removed to the level of the first fruits. If, after the appearance of a large number of ovaries, the plant continues to bloom, the excess flowers are removed: this will allow the bush not to waste power in vain, and the fruits will be larger. Each gardener has his own secrets to achieve a good harvest. Experience plays an important role, and each new season will allow you to learn new secrets of growing tomatoes.
