Basic classifications
According to the type of compartments for cartridges (that is, containers with a mixture), the tool is divided into two
- leafy;
- frame.

Devices of an electrical type are characterized by the absence of batteries, since they operate from the mains. With their help, the sealant is applied quickly and accurately, thereby saving consumables. Usually used by professionals, because they allow the use of cartridges of various types. They are, of course, expensive, so it is impractical to buy them for repairs in an apartment.
In pneumatic pistols, extrusion occurs due to the air pressure after the trigger is pulled. They have a simple design, but are often equipped with various stops to obtain a strip of material of the required thickness. They are good because they work with different containers.
Mechanical (or hand) tools are the most affordable, but at the same time the most short-lived. In fact, only a few cartridges can be squeezed out, so they are not used in large objects.
Finally, according to the design features, pistols can be:
- skeletal (designed for 310 ml cartridges);
- semi-case (the volume is the same, but the mechanism is simpler; designed for several cartridges, but extremely inconvenient to use);
- tubular, working with any cartridges.
Device and characteristics
Structurally, the sealant gun consists of the following parts:
- The body (frame) into which the tube is inserted.
- Piston rod - depending on the type of gun, it can be hex, smooth or serrated. Its purpose is to push the mass out of the tube to its spout.
- A handle with a trigger, when pressed, the sealant is squeezed out by the piston in portions.
- A safety device to keep the piston from spontaneous reverse movement and fix it at a given level.
Also, along with the tool, various attachments can be included in the kit, allowing you to set the characteristics of the applied seam.
So there are nozzles that are convenient for simultaneously quickly applying and leveling the material, for example, on the joints in the bathroom.
Material
In the manufacture of sealant guns, depending on their type, they most often use durable plastic that is resistant to mechanical stress or steel coated with anti-corrosion paint.
Tool steel containing chromium and vanadium or aluminum can also be used.
The latter is used in the production of only case models, regardless of the method of bringing their mechanism into action.
Dimensions and weight
The vast majority of sealant guns are made to suit the size of standard 310 and 600 ml tubes.
The length of the simplest tool is approximately 220 mm and 440 mm, respectively.
In principle, the dimensions of the pistol do not play a special role and are marked according to the standards of the cartridges for which they are intended to work.
The instrument weighs on average from 250 g.
Additional functions
A modern tool for the convenience of performing work can be equipped with various additional functions, including:
- Illumination of the sealant application area.
- Trigger lock for easy continuous work.
- Adjustment of the speed of application of the sealant, which improves the accuracy of the work
- Leakage protection.
Among other things, for the sealant gun, you can additionally purchase all kinds of illuminated nozzles, a cleaning needle, and a punch that allows you to remove the frozen mixture.
The nozzles themselves, by the way, can have a very different shape, allowing you to apply sealant to hard-to-reach places.
Advantages and disadvantages
The cordless gun is a professional-grade tool that makes the job easier and, moreover, carried out in a very short period.
Among this type of pistols, two subtypes can be distinguished.
- The first works only with a mixture in solid bottles.
- The second option allows you to work with a "loose" type sealant. It costs much more than the previous version, but the price may vary based on what adjustments it has, as well as how easy the mechanism is to use.
Of course, such a product does not belong to the budget, for example, the pneumatic version will cost the buyer several times cheaper.
Compared to other designs, the battery pistol has the following positive qualities:
- lightness - its weight ranges from 1.3 to 2.5 kg; the lower the weight, the more expensive the cost;
- the working capacity of the pistol can reach 1.5 hours, which makes it possible to create continuous seams;
- it is possible to use special cartridges, their switching occurs very quickly;
- in the process of work, there are no smudges, which cannot be said about ordinary pistols.
A cordless gun can be an ideal option especially for those who are engaged in construction at a professional level, because it has everything - easy work, different attachments. In addition, a 600 ml closed model is available for more serious work. If we consider the disadvantages, then we should note the very high cost of this tool. If the work will be done only once, there is no point in purchasing this option, it is preferable to use a simpler device.

According to statistics, most consumers prefer open pistols due to their low cost. Closed and semi-hulls are more often taken by buyers who are engaged in repairs at a professional level.
Professional pistols can be placed in a separate group. They come in different designs and types. They are all united by increased durability and convenience, as well as a high price.
Principle of operation
Cordless pistols are among the most convenient to use. They do not need the use of physical force, in addition, they do not need complex tuning. Before starting to use the gun, the user can independently set the required power of the sealant supply, and also, using the nozzles included in the kit, select the required application diameter.
In addition to the battery pistol, you can find mechanical and pneumatic ones on sale. A mechanical pistol requires the greatest physical effort in work, however, at a cost it is much lower than all other options.As for battery products, despite a number of advantages, they are not so often in demand, but this can be justified by their overpriced.

Despite the fact that the structure of the pistol is very simple, the very process of using sealant and other mixtures is very delicate. He makes demands on even the smallest details.
Manufacturers advise to carry out the work by following a few simple steps.
- First, it is worth installing a rod for supplying material or cutting off a container purchased in a store to the required thickness. In this work, you can use the attachment that is suitable for the specific job. They come in 7mm and 11mm diameters, but professional grade models can support other options.
- The tube should be placed in the landing compartment. After that, the working tool must be warmed up so that the mixture inside becomes more pliable to work.
- Now you can start working. For a start, it is worth practicing applying on unnecessary parts in order to evaluate the force with which the substance comes out. If the indicator does not suit you, then it can be changed on the battery gun, while the subsequent feed will be smooth and will begin to cover the entire working area.
- After the work is over, it will be necessary to remove all excess consistency from the working surfaces, since after hardening it will be difficult to do this. The gun itself must be freed from the tube and cleaned with a solvent.
