Outdoor curtain material
Before buying a fabric for street curtains, you need to know what properties it should have so that it can be used in a given situation.
The choice depends mainly on where exactly the object intended for the arrangement is located: on the sunny side or in the shade of trees.
If the building is located in an area where a lot of shade is created, then you can choose a fabric for curtains that is less dense than the structure that receives the maximum amount of sunlight for the entire period of operation.
In most cases, outdoor curtains are made of fabric with a moisture-proof base that can withstand any weather conditions and temperature changes.
Therefore, the material intended for use in open summer buildings is treated with a special impregnation with fireproof and dust-repellent properties, due to which the material has a high rate of incombustibility, and with prolonged use, the curtains remain clean and do not fade.
It is also unique that such curtains can be left on, leaving them for the winter.
Outdoor PVC curtains - both inexpensive and modern
The best option when choosing outdoor curtains. Unlike other types, this one has much more functional advantages.
PVC curtains look modern and aesthetically pleasing. The transparent parts of the curtain can be combined with opaque fabrics, with many different shades and textures.
- They are practical - they are based on a synthetic lavsan fabric covered with polyvinyl chloride, and on top all layers are additionally coated with a special varnish made of Teflon or acrylic.
- PVC awning fabric can withstand even very severe Russian frosts and successfully protects the gazebo from them.
- PVC curtains are lightweight, elastic, easy to fold and transport.
- When custom-made, you can make curtains of any shape, for any opening - even square, even round, even in the form of the letter T.
- Excellent protection of the gazebo from rain and wind - as it is very durable, and does not lose transparency even after 5-7 years (the service life depends on the manufacturer of the film, we do not recommend using cheap Chinese films, as they quickly become cloudy).
- If the PVC is damaged, the fabric can be easily repaired using a specialized adhesive that is easy to find in hardware stores.
- The synthetic fabric of PVC fabric is maximally resistant to ultraviolet radiation - such curtains will not fade, unlike ordinary fabrics.
- Easy to clean, resistant to various dirt.
- Unlike fabrics or wood, even in the wettest conditions, PVC will never mold or rot.
- Transparent PVC curtains can serve as a budget alternative to glazing - the gazebo will always have a wide view and a lot of sunlight.
- They can be easily removed manually (or partially folded) and re-installed on the built-in mounts during installation.
Tip: the gazebo in which PVC stretch curtains are installed should be ventilated from time to time. For this purpose, door curtains (with a zipper) and built-in PVC mosquito nets are well suited.
Street curtains for gazebos: varieties and features
Outdoor curtains serve not only for beauty, but also:
- keep warm on cool days;
- create a secluded space hidden from prying eyes;
- protect from wind, bright sun and insects.

Gazebo curtains are of three types:
- Protective awnings;
- Fabric;
- PVC.
Protective awnings
For those who like to spend time outdoors in any weather, outdoor curtains for a gazebo in the form of awnings are suitable. By varying the degree of opening, you can move the awning, creating a closed comfortable space. And on cool, damp days, you can even turn on the heater.
For the construction, a dense material is selected, for example, tarpaulin or lavsan. To give the material additional strength and resistance to rain and wind, it is impregnated with varnishes. After such processing, the material gains the ability to withstand frosts down to -25 degrees and heat up to +60.
Fabric curtains
Short curtains for the gazebo
Another option for outdoor curtains for gazebos and verandas is textiles. They are suitable for both open terraces and closed ones. Such curtains create a comfortable environment for relaxation and communication with friends, add romance and coziness.
Curtains are made from natural and synthetic fabrics. Thin fabrics visually make the construction lighter, thick fabrics form more laconic forms with a minimum of draperies. Materials that are natural in composition look environmentally friendly and combine well with wooden surfaces in natural shades.
Lightweight translucent fabrics protect against mosquitoes and midges. To enhance the effect of repelling insects, the fabric can be impregnated with a special agent.
Synthetic fabrics are practical and can last a long time without losing their appearance. The material is water-permeable, therefore, in case of rain and for the winter period, it must be removed.
To decorate the openings of the gazebos with the ability to completely darken the space of the gazebo, blackout curtains are used. They block the sun's rays well and have a beautiful inner coating. Among the disadvantages is the high price.
Pvc
PVC roller blinds are another practical option. In a multi-colored solution, they are visually very similar to fabric, but they do not need to be washed or ironed. They also:
- easy to assemble
- moisture resistant;
- plastic;
- lungs;
- durable.
PVC gazebo curtains are transparent and opaque. The transparent canvas transmits sunlight well and serves as a replacement for glazing, well protects the interior from dampness.
With frequent changes in the position of such curtains, creases and deformations of the panel may appear. The best time to use them is in winter and rainy, cool days.
Mounting options
Fabric roll panels made of PVC or textile material are attached in different ways. There is nothing complicated in such a mount, it can be installed independently, if only you have the necessary tools and basic construction skills.
Moreover, you should fully follow the instructions for the fastening, since if you do not understand the roller blinds control mechanism, you can easily damage it and thus make it unusable.
Most often, such curtains are fastened with brackets with straps (there are also swivel options). This mount is valued for being able to withstand strong gusts of wind without damaging the material. Moreover, it is easy to operate the roll-up panel - on such a mount it can be easily opened and closed so that the window only partially opens. With this control method, it is easy to collect the entire curtain into a roll over the opening.
Less commonly, there is another mounting option - guides with rollers or a cable with carabiners. This option is much more expensive, and is more often intended for horizontal placement of curtains, for example, for blinds. It is more suitable for standard textile options, so it is rarely used for attaching curtains to the veranda. Nevertheless, if fabric panels were still chosen for the street, and not made of polyester, you can stop at this option if its price seems affordable.
The choice of curtains for terraces, verandas, or outdoor gazebos should be given a lot of attention. Why? Because the outdoor space is practically not protected from changeable weather conditions, nevertheless, it is these rooms that most often serve to create comfort and warmth in the estate
The lustration shows a closed veranda, and the glazed window openings are covered with just such curtains. If the glass is raised and the rolls are lowered, the room will be protected from sunlight, but it will have good ventilation.
Moreover, the arrangement of the gazebo greatly affects the operation of the room itself. If the terrace or veranda, or individual outdoor areas are not obstructed by special curtains, enormous difficulties are created with their use. This automatically means that in very many cases it becomes impossible to use this room for recreation and pastime.
What should you look for when choosing outdoor curtains? First, on their practicality. No matter how beautiful or fashionable the curtains are, if they are difficult to use, money will be wasted.
Secondly, you should select the right materials that are durable enough for the street, but at the same time have an attractive appearance. There is a sufficient selection of such materials on the modern market. In the illustration above, you can see how beautifully selected the curtains, taking into account the design of the building and the color scheme.
Thirdly, the curtains should fully fulfill their function, and the street curtains have several of them - protection from the sun, wind, rain, darkening the room, keeping warm and creating coziness
Taking into account all these factors, you can choose the most suitable option for roller blinds.
Features of outdoor roller blinds
Outdoor roller blinds are rarely made from fabric materials, as they are intended for gazebos. The fabric is intended for use only during the summer season, so these curtains are not suitable for year-round use. Nevertheless, if the gazebo is used only in the summer, and it is possible to assemble and disassemble the curtains (which, by the way, is a rather laborious process), you can stop at the choice of fabric panels. However, this option is not preferred.
For outdoor versions of such curtains, polyester fabric panels are made. This material is impregnated with PVC and has a number of advantages. Here are just a few of them:
- Such panels are used for a long time, they practically do not wear out (i.e. they are very wear-resistant), since they are intended for outdoor use.
- The material does not react to temperature changes, moreover, low and high temperatures do not adversely affect the panels and do not affect their operation in any way.
- The fabric does not get wet in the rain, and is not injured in the wind. Over time, in aggressive weather conditions, the material does not deform.
- PVC is not electrified.
- This type of material is moisture resistant, therefore it perfectly protects from rain and does not get wet, even in wet weather and during prolonged rains. It also protects against snow.
- Polyester does not burn, and therefore it can be used to cover the gazebo, which is used as a place for a brazier and where an open fire is made.
- During operation, the material does not break, except that it is very wear-resistant.
- Most often, polyester is made translucent, which allows you to let in a little diffused daylight into the gazebo, which is covered with such curtains, at the same time, without creating darkness in the fenced room.
If you need to completely darken the gazebo and protect it from sunlight, you can use a blackout fabric.
Criterias of choice
Before purchasing protective curtains for a terrace or veranda, you need to take into account many nuances, since the product must be multifunctional.
First of all, you should pay attention to the quality of the material from which the canvases are made.Preference should be given to durable fabrics that can withstand gusts of wind and negative weather conditions.
Depending on in what period of the year it is planned to use the curtains, their density should be taken into account.
Light fabrics are suitable for sheltering a building from spring to autumn, and in winter it is better to replace them with tarpaulin or PVC, which will keep the warmth inside the room.
In addition, curtains should be in harmony with other design items and the architectural ensemble of the building. Street curtains are usually hung in light colors, since they do not visually overload the space of the site. For terraces and gazebos, beige canvases are also well suited.

Materials (edit)
The fabric for curtains or curtains on the veranda is chosen depending on the season. The lightest and most transparent types of fabrics are relevant for the summer season. Popular materials for the summer season:
- Cotton;
- Organza;
- Tulle;
- Silk;
- Linen;
- Flannel.
In sunny weather, translucent laces and scallops will look just magical, playing under the bright rays of the sun. They are collected and draped in folds, secured with exquisite elements.
Bamboo is another naturally occurring summer material. Eco-friendly fiber with unusual weave is easy to clean and wash. For a practical housewife, such curtains can be the best solution for decorating both open and closed veranda. Curtains do not cause allergies, do not accumulate static electricity and keep insects out.
Rolled up over a door or window opening, bamboo curtains do not interfere with movement, moreover, they perfectly decorate the interior. Warm tone and originality of design are another strong point of this summer material. Next to wicker furniture made of vine, bamboo looks harmonious, and the grass and trees in the garden and on the paths against a beige background pleases the eye with bright green.
Lightweight awning fabrics made according to special technologies for gazebos and terraces have a density of no more than 250 g / m2. High-quality dyeing and impregnation of materials, the strength of the threads and the form of their weaving are important.
Curtains made of impregnated canvas do not allow moisture to penetrate into the house, close the windows from drafts and rains. For the coldest time - late autumn and winter - on an open terrace, oilcloth and polycarbonate canvases will be appropriate.
Polymer curtains are known as "soft windows", which make it easy to protect the gazebo instead of glazing in fall / winter. The tension of flexible PVC curtains provides them with proper opacity, therefore, in a gazebo with a similar design, it will be sufficiently light all day. Products of the latest generation have the following functional qualities:
- Durability and reliability.The service life of curtains can reach 10 years, they do not sag or tear, they are resistant to the effects of the sun and water.
- High protective properties. There will be no dirt and dust, insects on your veranda. It is such canvases instead of windows that can shelter from rain and wind in the off-season and in winter. In cold weather, a small heater is enough to stay warm without compromising the usual way of life in the country.
- Low cost and ease of installation.
Plastic and polyethylene products of various colors, in addition to being practical, visually expand the viewing space. They are not inferior in strength to colored curtains with synthetic threads. If necessary, the bottom of the windows is draped or covered with colored curtains in addition. This will hide the veranda from prying eyes, and complex curtains, consisting of two or three layers, further enhance the feeling of comfort and coziness.
Design options
Distinguish between classic, romantic and modern design styles with the participation of curtain fabrics. Classic models can be used to decorate a spacious veranda, turning it into a work of art. English or Austrian, French versions of street curtains and textile curtains - lifting, on hooks and eyelets.
Simple and beautiful - this is about decorating with pleated curtains, suitable for any size of the veranda. Light weight and compactness are the undoubted advantages of such models. Pleating helps to regulate the flow of light, and a special impregnation keeps the curtains attractive and clean for a long time.
White and light-colored curtains expand the space of a small terrace, they can be hung both in summer and in winter when there is snow. Snow-white and neutral beige curtains look like attributes of luxury, reminiscent of the design of the recreation area at the elite resorts.
Summer curtains, designed in cold colors: blue, lilac, pale turquoise, perfectly refresh and make the room colder in the heat. Warm colors add warmth and comfort. Crimson and pink, purple look enchanting, fabulous. Green uplifts the mood, the same can be said about the color of a bright orange.
Roman curtains are straight cuts of fabric of unlimited length, which can be gathered into uniform noble folds. Curtains of this type look great on any window openings.
If on the veranda the windows are glazed to the full height, from ceiling to floor, you can opt for such a design option as panels. The stretched fabric of panel curtains is attached to the cornice and can only be moved horizontally along the window. The panels are easy to maintain, they do not need to be washed and ironed like fabric curtains. To create an interesting decor, a bright and colorful pattern is applied to the canvases with accents on individual elements. Different curtains are moved along the windows, changing places.
Romantic fancy curtains, like summer dresses that dress the room, make a good impression on the viewer. They can be left straight or draped, show imagination and create an original design, combining them into a unique composition under the canopy and canopy.
If you hang curtains along the entire perimeter of the veranda or terrace, several accents in the decor will be created at once. You can leave one or two sides of the gazebo free by placing curtains on only the other two. According to the French tradition, it is also customary to drape the exit to the terrace with fabrics.

Curtain fasteners: reliability and originality
The method of fastening the curtains is determined by:
- material;
- room design;
- Colour;
- design features of the building;
- the purpose of the curtains (the frequency of mechanical stress, for example, sliding and sliding panels).
Gazebo curtains can be fixed:
- in the form of a sliding system;
- swivel brackets.
Swivel brackets
Installing pivot brackets:
- Eyelets are inserted around the perimeter of the material.
- Insert brackets equipped with a mechanism that allows turning.
- The final fasteners are performed.
The built-in mechanism allows you to fix the curtain in the desired position. When unfolding, the material is straightened and the position becomes fixed. This fastening system is reliable. It allows you to freely use the curtains even in windy weather, unfolding them in whole or in part.
Sliding system
A gazebo with curtains or a veranda can be equipped with a sliding system. The principle of operation is based on:
- On the use of a mechanism with rollers and a guide.
- The use of a cable with carabiners.
This system makes it possible to easily move the curtain from fully closing to fully opening. If the curtains are made of lightweight fabric, then the fastening system should have a lightweight version - metal beams for moving curtains, which are equipped with fabric straps.
The most popular types of protective curtains
Most often, the owners of gazebos use curtains and awnings made of materials that can not only decorate the gazebo, but also protect it as much as possible from bad weather or at least from the wind. The following materials are popular:
- Decorative fabric curtains - usually tulle or gauze or linen, if the weather is calm and the curtains are used for a short time - this is the easiest option.
- Acrylic fabric is a very practical material with a huge variety of colors, is capable of "self-cleaning", repels moisture, the variety of species is impressive;
- Frost-resistant PVC curtains for gazebos - polyvinyl chloride (PVC), which is popular in construction, although it is not a natural material, however, has a lot of useful properties and is inexpensive (details below).
- Bamboo is a natural and beautiful material that creates a sense of exclusivity and is usually expensive.
- Electric roller blinds - using a durable material (acrylic, pvc or other), which is wound on a roll, such blinds can even be controlled from the remote control.

How to hang?
To hang and secure curtains made of fabric materials, several types of fastening structures are usually used. These are such devices:
- Eaves in one or more rows. They hold the panel's weight and help move it along the opening. The slats are produced flat and round with different diameters, the traditional ones are supplied with rings and cords for opening curtains. Cornices are made of brass, anodized iron, wood with a smooth texture or decorated with patterns and carvings.
- Swivel brackets and straps. They hold street curtains, firmly fixed around the perimeter of the gazebo. Bracket fasteners withstand blizzards and heavy windy rain. Curtains can be rolled up on a strap, often closed and opened.
- Roll mechanisms.
Screens with fabric attached to them are called Japanese curtains. The frame moves along the eaves, hermetically closing the window opening and protecting the room from the incoming cold wind and oblique rain streams. Rolls made from natural materials and bamboo are becoming more and more popular. They are universal types, easy to assemble and spread. For a successful decoration of the terrace, fabric curtains are complemented with garters and tie-backs, beautiful hand-made clips.
