Propagation of grapes by cuttings

Propagation of grapes by cuttings is a very cheap and very reliable way of obtaining planting material. Reproduction of grapes by cuttings has the advantage of the impossibility of infection with phylloxera, which occurs when purchasing seedlings. This method is very economical in terms of cost.

The disadvantage of such reproduction will be the loss of about two years for the growth of seedlings. You can use the method of grafting on existing bushes, in this case, in the second year, you can observe bunches of grapes.

The first step is to prepare cuttings. Harvesting is carried out in autumn before the grapes are sheltered for the winter. Also, cuttings can be harvested in winter or spring before sap flow. The cuttings are soaked in water for several days, then they are treated with copper sulfate. Store cuttings in the basement, refrigerator, or in the sand.

Seedlings can be grown in a cup or in a school on the site. We cut the lower part of the cutting under the knot, and the upper part is sealed with paraffin. The cuttings are placed in a jar of water and are waiting for the appearance of buds and roots. After the roots appear, about 3 centimeters of the cuttings are planted in prepared cups with soil. Cuttings can be planted in a permanent place by the end of May.

A good way to grow grapes in a school. Prepared cuttings are placed vertically in a hole in a sunny spot on the site. The cuttings are covered with plastic wrap. The cuttings are periodically watered and ventilated.

Growing grapes in this way is a bit of a painstaking and long process, which will eventually bear fruit in the form of bunches of grapes.
