How to get remontant strawberry seedlings?

Some time ago, gardeners of our country did not particularly like remontant strawberry varieties, because they were so unstable to frost. But with the advent of frost-resistant varieties of these tasty and aromatic berries, more and more gardeners are wondering how to get seedlings of remontant strawberries?

For most of us, getting strawberry seedlings from seeds seems like something unrealistically difficult. But in reality, it's much easier than it sounds.

Seeds of strawberries and strawberries, as everyone knows, are very small. Yes, remontant varieties have larger seeds, but they are still comparable to a poppy seed. Therefore, they are planted on the surface of the earth, without deliberately deepening. For growing seedlings, it is best to use a small and shallow container. The best option for home is transparent plastic candy boxes. Such a container is convenient - it is compact, has sufficient depth and a high lid to create a greenhouse effect.

So, we fall asleep land suitable for growing seedlings. You can buy it at the store, or you can cook it yourself by mixing 1 part of garden soil, 1 part of humus and 2 parts of sand. Anyone who decides on such a feat as growing remontant strawberry seedlings should remember that strawberry seeds sprout only a month after planting. And since the conditions for germination must be warm and humid, together with the strawberry seedlings, various fungi - molds can grow. Therefore, if the soil for seedlings is prepared independently, it must be disinfected. Although for growing seedlings it is most convenient to use special cellular peat plates or peat tablets.

Before planting, strawberry seeds must be soaked, for example, in any growth stimulant, wrapping them in a damp cloth for 2-3 days. Then we do this. Prepared containers with soil, by the way, the earth should not reach the edge by 2-3 centimeters, we fill it with an even layer of snow. We lay out the seeds on top and put the container in the refrigerator on the lowest shelf for three days. During this time, the seeds will undergo stratification, the snow will melt, dragging the seeds to the depth necessary for subsequent careful watering.

After such hardening, containers with seeds must be placed in a warm and well-lit place, covered with a film, a lid so that an airtight greenhouse is obtained. Do not forget that the seedlings do not need direct sunlight at this stage. Window glass is best closed with a white paper curtain. Do not forget to ventilate the greenhouse every day for 1-2 minutes. And if necessary, water the seedlings from a spray bottle.

After such labors and worries, strawberry sprouts will delight you with their delicate greens, and you can begin to dive them.

Good luck!
