Planting cherries
Sweet cherry is very popular with our gardeners, because in addition to tasty and healthy fruits, this tree also brings aesthetic pleasure, especially during the flowering period. At the same time, planting and caring for cherries is quite simple and will not be difficult for an experienced gardener. And although sweet cherry belongs to a rather thermophilic plant, nowadays there are already varieties that tolerate cold weather conditions quite well.
Cherries can be planted both in spring and autumn. As with planting other plants, it is very important for cherries to choose the right place in the first place. For cherries, places where there is stagnation of water, even if it is short, are unacceptable. It is also advisable to avoid the northern parts of the garden and areas with winds. Planting cherries will be most successful in a sunny, warm location. A slight elevation will also be favorable, but not a hill. As for the soil, fertile soil with good water permeability is preferable. Clay soils, sandstones, and peaty soil are undesirable for sweet cherries.
To plant a cherry seedling, you need to make a hole about 80 cm deep and about 1 meter wide. Then the hole must be filled with black soil and humus. If necessary, you can also add mineral fertilizers. A sprout must be placed in this hole so that its neck is not too deep.
Remember that the correct planting of cherries, as well as caring for them, can provide tasty fruits for more than one generation of your family, because cherries can live up to 100 years.
And I had no idea that sweet cherry is such a long-term plant. One grows in our garden, but for some reason it began to dry up, they were just thinking of planting a new one. And your article, Julia, has definitely convinced me of the right choice of the place that I have allocated for the future tree.
