Heart-leaved linden. About the plant and its healing properties
Linden is a tree of our latitudes, familiar and beloved by everyone. During its flowering, the smell in many city parks is breathtaking, and the buzzing of bees evokes thoughts of country peace and tranquility, clean air and barefoot walks on soft green grasses. The ancients called her "the golden tree", the girls danced around the old lindens, considered her the keeper of the hearth.
Linden blossom has long been known as a medicinal raw material and in pharmacies you can buy it all year round both in collections of different herbs, and separately. Many people collect these gifts of nature themselves in order to enjoy aromatic linden tea in winter. And as a honey plant, this plant is also unmatched.
Basically, linden blossom is used for colds, coughs. It has diaphoretic properties. Warm tea with honey will also be relevant for angina and bronchitis. You can combine linden with chamomile, raspberries, peppermint, fennel or oak bark. In such combinations, linden is used to lower the acidity in the stomach, in case of peptic ulcer disease.
In addition to flowers, connoisseurs of folk recipes say, our great-grandfathers prepared fresh buds and leaves to soothe pain and relieve inflammation in wounds. They used the bark of a tree and coal from it. Nasal bleeding was stopped with dried leaves powder, and linden fruits were used for internal bleeding.
For the Slavs, linden meant a lot. It was used to make ropes, bowls, trays, carts, toys, weapons, and bast shoes. Poets dedicated their poems to her and to this day linden alleys return us to those distant, difficult, but glorious times.
In the summer, we collect flowers, dry them, and then the whole family drink aromatic delicious linden tea for colds, and just like that.
My family can't imagine a single winter evening without linden tea, it's like a tradition with us. But you need to know that linden blossom is harvested at the beginning of flowering, as soon as the flowers have fully opened, then the tea will be more aromatic, since pollen is stored in it.
