Ruelia in the photo
The homeland of ruelia is the American tropics and subtropics. Ruelia belongs to the Acanthus family. The genus of this plant has about 250 species, and there are perennial herbaceous plants, shrubs with various leaf shapes, as well as semi-shrubs. The flowers of ruelia are located in the axils of the leaves and can be of various colors: yellow, purple, white and red.
The blooming ruelia in the photo is very similar to streptocarpus, however, upon closer examination, the difference between the plants becomes noticeable.
Ruelia is an amazing plant because it grows very quickly and easily adapts to indoor conditions.
Despite the fact that ruelia loves warmth and light, you should not expose it to direct sunlight. The plant loves diffused sunlight with shading. In winter, it is recommended to additionally create artificial lighting.
The optimum temperature for growing ruelia is between 22 and 24 degrees. A drop in temperature below 18 degrees can lead to the death of the plant.
Watering ruelia should be moderate, since the flower does not tolerate waterlogging, as well as drying out. It is best to use settled water.
For ruelia, high air humidity is required, therefore it is recommended to put wet peat or expanded clay in the pallet. And in winter, the flower should be placed away from heat sources (batteries and other heating devices).
Ruelia in the photo during the period of active growth and flowering looks especially beautiful. Therefore, during this period, it is necessary to feed the plant with special complex fertilizers.
