Basically, we are used to seeing very bright yellow, orange, blazing scarlet flowers of this plant in flower beds. They seem to us already familiar, because few people think about the fact that all these plants can belong to completely different varieties, and that there are other varieties with completely non-standard color of the petals.
Features of growing nasturtium
Nasturtiums are not a capricious flower plant. Therefore, it is they who can so often be found growing both in hanging pots, and on the balconies of city apartments, and in flowerpots in parks and squares, and on flower beds outside the city.
These flowers are quite easy to care for and not demanding on living conditions, but, however, there are some subtleties when growing them.
Despite the docile nature of nasturtium, it is still undesirable to sow when there is still a threat of frost. And in our strip, they can freeze the soil even in early May. Young plants will not tolerate even a short-term drop in temperature to zero degrees.
In the Moscow region, it is optimal to sow nasturtium, for example, at the very end of May. In this case, the plants are no longer threatened.
If, with such a late sowing, you still want to see the flowering of nasturtiums before mid-summer, then before planting its seeds, you need to spill the soil in the flower bed with hot water.
In the soil warm from water, then you need to sow seeds, covering the plantings with non-woven material. This will make it faster germinate seeds, which means that the plants will bloom earlier.
If you raised to begin with seedlings of nasturtium or bought it in a horticultural center, during planting it is necessary to carefully protect the earthen lump from destruction. Often the reason for the poor survival rate of seedlings is precisely the damage during the transshipment of an earthen coma, when the root system of tender young plants is touched.
Caring for all varieties of nasturtium
Caring for nasturtium not difficult at all, even children can cope with it. Plants periodically need to be fed, weed out around them and, of course, provided with water.
Most suitable for improving the splendor of flowering nasturtium superphosphate. It is usually diluted in water for irrigation.
Many people know that this fertilizer is rather difficult to dilute in water, however, in this form, it is still more available to plants.
If you want to enhance the growth of green mass on your plants, then fertilizing with fertilizers containing nitrogen is suitable.
It will be useful to spray the plant with a urea solution on the leaf. This is done a couple of times a month using the volume of urea in one matchbox per bucket (10 liters) of water.
