Large-leaved hydrangea: care for lush beauty
Large-leaved hydrangea, due to its beautiful, bright and lush flowers, along with the traditional rose, is deservedly considered the queen of the garden. An interesting feature of this plant is that the color of its flowers strongly depends on the acidity of the soil, therefore, by changing the latter, you can also influence the shades of the plant's flowers. For example, if you prefer blue or blue flowers, just add some iron salts and alum to the soil every two weeks.
Large-leaved hydrangea, as a rule, blooms extremely luxuriantly, but in order to further enhance the profusion of flowering, it can be sprayed with a solution of gibberellin, prepared in a proportion of 50 mg of substance per liter of water. The interval between two treatments, which, among other things, contribute to an earlier onset of flowering, should be at least a week.
Another extremely important condition for the health of hydrangeas is a suitable temperature regime (the plant does not tolerate frost well, therefore it should be kept at high temperatures and a sufficient amount of sunlight). In no case should hydrangea be planted in soil with lime: it simply will not take root in such a substrate. As for the winter period, here the flower will have to organize a rather serious shelter: the fact is that the inflorescences are formed on last year's shoots, so the latter should not be allowed to freeze. In regions with excessively harsh winters, it is better to grow hydrangea altogether in large tubs, which should be kept in a warm room with the onset of cold weather.
