What glue can be used to glue foam rubber at home

General guidelines for fabrics and adhesives

How to glue textile pieces? This is not difficult to do. You just need to remember the following rules:

Before applying the glue, the surface must be prepared. To do this, it must be cleaned and degreased. If the fabric is too thick for normal washing, wipe it with a cotton pad soaked in alcohol or acetone. After that, the fabric should dry.
Glue is applied to the junction with gentle movements

It is important not to take too much of it, otherwise it will start to show through at the edges.
Before applying the glue, it is important to read the instructions for it. It is advisable to use those types that are recommended by the manufacturer for working with textiles.
You should not take adhesives that dry for several hours to work with fabrics.

The faster the glue sets, the more convenient it is for them to glue different parts.
After applying the product, the parts must be well pressed with your fingers: mechanical action will help to more reliably fix the elements of the application. In this case, contact of the glue with fingers must be avoided.

Fabric adhesive - technique of use

The quality of adhesion largely depends on the correct use of the adhesive

You must first study the method of its use, familiarize yourself with the precautions and operating conditions.

Adhesives with rubber in the composition usually require a two-sided coating and a long drying time. If you need to glue canvases of a large area, then they are usually pressed with a load and left for several hours.

When working with PVC adhesives, they are applied in two layers. The first one is evenly distributed and left for several minutes to harden, then the second layer is spread over the top and only after that the necessary elements are fastened.

Nitrocellulose adhesives are distributed in one layer and glued immediately, only large items are placed under the load.

PVA glue is applied to both surfaces to be adhered. To increase strength, it is better to use a weight. The popular expert glue is "Construction PVA".

Silicone glue in the rod is applied using a special heating gun, which allows you to distribute the composition with a thread or pointwise. This glue is liquid, but does not flow, quickly hardens, but for some time it allows you to adjust the position of the parts.

When bonding dense fabrics, a durable and water-resistant compound is required, which is distributed over the previously degreased surface of the fabric. Acetone or gasoline is used for degreasing, the glue is usually applied in two layers, the connection is fixed for a long time. It is allowed to use things only in a day.

To achieve a high-quality and reliable result, each adhesive requires certain conditions. Among the general requirements are distribution only on a clean surface and sufficient time for the complete polymerization of the composition.

We glue veneer at home - in lapping

If we are talking, as it is supposed, about home gluing of veneer, then here, when deciding how to glue the veneer, you will have to use the manual method, that is, very tightly.

Its essence is as follows:

  • The prepared surface with the help of a special hard brush is applied to it along the wood fibers of a thin adhesive layer. In the process of applying the glue, the formation of lumps or non-smeared spots should be avoided. Then, after the glue is applied, you should wait about a few minutes, after which you can start applying the veneer sheets;
  • After the veneer is applied to the base, the stage of smoothing it follows, for which a damp cloth is used;
  • Next, they start grinding, while the iron or a lapping hammer must be warmed up for this until a temperature of about 150-200 degrees is reached. This will allow the glue to warm up during the rubbing process and re-gain adhesiveness.

The veneer is lapped from the middle to the edge along the grain.

Do not forget that lapping should exclude the presence of residual air or excess glue, while it should be carried out until the moment when the veneer sheets are finally glued.

Doors are an integral part of the interior; they must be not only beautiful, but also durable. Today, a significant part of the production is occupied by veneered structures, which differ not only in aesthetic appearance, but also in a long service life, as well as an affordable cost.

We will tell you everything about what veneered doors are and what types they are. And also you will learn all about their advantages and disadvantages in our article.

Properties of furniture glue

Adhesives for furniture ensure bond strength, their composition is optimal. Weights correspond to the following parameters:

  • Resistant to temperature changes. Furniture structures are often used outdoors, they stand near batteries or kitchen stoves, ovens, the glue is able to withstand temperature extremes, while maintaining its original properties.
  • Withstand heavy loads. This applies to bookshelves, chairs, sofa seats, etc. Such structures are constantly under pressure, but high-quality adhesives cope with it.
  • Vibration resistance. Furniture is often installed near washing machines and various equipment. In order for the connection to be strong, the fact of stability is taken into account.
  • Resistance to chemical elements. Furniture items undergo constant cleaning, they are often exposed to chemical attack.

Technical data are considered using the example of a thermoplastic adhesive composition:

  • The composition includes resins, rosin, synthetic rubber. Some brands contain solvents, they are added to reduce the setting time, drying.
  • The working temperature is within 120-200 degrees.
  • Hardening occurs 40 seconds after application.

For a strong connection, fixation is made before the initial setting.

The main types of veneer

Veneer is a thin layer of wood. The substance is an absolutely natural material, which has several varieties:

  1. Standard - made from oak, cherry, walnut. Other types of wood can also be used.
  2. Special - made from rare and valuable wood species.
  3. Root cuts of interesting species - this material is not suitable for the production of furniture, but it has an interesting texture. This category includes myrtle or eucalyptus.
  4. Exclusive - characterized by an unusual texture and non-standard sizes.

> The material may also differ in the way of cutting and processing methods. Most often it is used in the furniture industry. Often, the substance is glued to wall or facade panels. Veneer doors look actual. This substance is characterized by its excellent appearance. It is permissible to fix it on various wooden surfaces. At the same time, the substance is notable for its affordable price. Therefore, it is often used to decorate the interiors of residential premises. The main advantages of veneer include the following:

  • long period of operation;
  • moisture resistance;
  • environmental friendliness;
  • high strength.

By cutting method

Depending on the cutting method, veneer can be radial and tangential. Each of the options has certain features.

Tangential

This material is obtained by slicing the trunk parallel to the center. This helps to achieve the effect of rings on the surface.

Radial

This is achieved by planing at 90 degrees to the tree rings.

By processing method

Depending on the processing method, veneer has several varieties. Each of them has a number of features.

Shelled

This type of veneer is obtained by rotating the logs. During the procedure, a thin tape is cut from them. The saw of a special machine cuts the wood parallel to the grain. This material is obtained from oak and alder. Pine and birch are also used for its manufacture.

Sawn

This veneer is made from coniferous trees. These include Siberian cedar and fir. As a result, it is possible to obtain boards with a thickness of up to 12 millimeters. Usually the material is used to make musical instruments. It is sometimes used in the furniture industry as well. This type of veneer is considered the most valuable.

Planed

This material is made exclusively from solid wood. It can be obtained from oak or mahogany. It differs from other types of veneer by the method of cutting wood. First, the trunk must be cut into bars. Then its layers are cut off. This is done perpendicular to the fibers.

Gluing methods

After the canvas is prepared, the material is cut to size, and the glue is selected, you need to find out how to glue the veneer at home. There are three ways to do this.

Cold contact method

It is considered the most difficult way of gluing wood to a treated surface. This implies the use of a contact adhesive. The difficulty lies in the fact that the binding composition sets quickly. This makes it extremely difficult to correct inaccuracies if the mating surfaces are misplaced.

In order for the gluing to be reliable, it is required to create a strong clamping force in the first seconds of contact of the materials (press it with your hand or with a load). Experts do not recommend using it for gluing large surfaces.

Hot glue

A layer of glue is applied to the surfaces to be glued, which must dry for a certain period of time. After that, you need to attach a veneer sheet exactly to size. With the help of an iron, the sheet begins to be smoothed from the center to the edges. The adhesive composition under the influence of high temperature melts and sticks two materials together.

For contact hot-sticking to work, a thick adhesive must be used. To prevent the glue from drying out too quickly when using an iron, it is required to moisten the veneer surface with warm water. Where the blisters are, punctures or cuts are required to release air.

Cold press bonding

The classic method of gluing, which requires fixing the clamps to the glued surfaces. The holding time is indicated on the packaging of the composition used. After drying, it is necessary to remove the clamps and check the condition of the ends of the door.

Now you know how to glue veneer

In order for the work to proceed without difficulty, it is necessary to take into account the recommendations and advice of the veneers:

  1. When using veneer from expensive wood species (oak, ash), a layer of cotton fabric must be applied to the canvas.
  2. Grinding a new surface is possible only along the fibers with emery paper.
  3. Since the new coating absorbs water well, immediately after gluing it must be covered with a layer of varnish.
  4. Using an iron, you need to constantly drive it along the work surface. It is forbidden to hold a heated metal surface in one place. If there are burn marks, remove the blackness with a sharp knife or razor blade.
  5. To secure a long strip of veneer to an edge, you need to secure one of the edges with an iron or a hot air gun. It is convenient to fix edges and corners with a soldering iron.
  6. The covering of radius doors must be entrusted to the cladders of old furniture.
  7. Stacked veneer panels from different types of wood look unusual.
  8. At the ends located below and above the blade, it is required to cut 2 mm chamfers on both sides. The sash will not cling to the box after gluing the new wood covering.
  9. When cutting a sheet with a knife, it is recommended to do this across the grain. If the sheet is cut lengthwise, it is necessary to make several movements with the blade. Otherwise, the cutting part of the knife will slip off and ruin the sheet.

By following the elementary rules, you can get the job done without difficulty.

The veneering skill can be useful not only for restoring door leaves. With the help of new wood sheets, you can change the design of wood furniture. It can be coated with any paint color for wooden surfaces. The main thing is to apply varnish or plastic wrap to protect the veneer from the damaging effects of moisture.

Gluing methods

Before starting work, you need to mix the glue if it is two-component. Next, you can stick to the selected method.

Cold contact method

This technique is much more difficult. For its implementation, you will need a contact adhesive for veneer, which sets very quickly due to the minimum holding time. This technique will not work for beginners, because there will be almost no opportunity to correct inaccuracies in the work. After applying the product to the base, you need to forcefully press the veneer to it

It is precisely the strong clamping force in the first seconds that is important, which allows you to not use the press in the future. Usually the technique is used for pasting small products.

Hot glue

Veneering in this way is easier. First, a thin layer of glue is applied to both surfaces, which dries up within 10-15 minutes. Then the veneer is applied to the main canvas, melted with a hot iron, or a lapping hammer is used. As the tool heats up the adhesive layer, the adhesive melts and firmly seizes the veneer with the backing. In addition, all accumulations of air bubbles are released, and the quality of adhesion is improved.

For this technique, it is important to use a glue with a thick texture. If it is noticed that it dries too quickly, the base is first sprayed with a little water.

Large swellings will have to be carefully punctured, cut, and then once again walk over them with an iron

Cold press bonding

For this type of veneering, the most commonly used glue is "Titebond". It is applied to both surfaces, leveled with a spatula, and a veneer is applied to the base. After carefully adjust the position of the material, fix it with a clamp (clamp). Do not remove the clamps until the glue has completely dried, then remove them and check the strength of the connection at the ends of the canvas.

Veneer gluing methods

Depending on the size of the products, the presence of curved surfaces, as well as skills and equipment, one of three veneering methods can be used:

Contact cold method. Contact adhesive for veneer has a short holding and setting time. Therefore, veneering large surfaces with such an adhesive is difficult. If you inaccurately attached the veneer to the base, it is impossible to correct the position and the appearance of the product will be damaged.

For a good adhesion, the initial compression force is important, and the duration of the force is not required. This is the most difficult method of gluing, but its advantage is that you do not need to use jigs for pressing.
Cold bonding followed by pressing

After applying the glue, the surfaces are connected, leveled and fixed with a clamp. The most commonly used wood glue for this method is Titebond. It has a short setting and pressing time, as well as a wide assortment (depending on the class of moisture resistance, ductility, temperature resistance or purpose for different colors of the material).
Hot plywood. The applied layer of glue should dry (or dry) on the surfaces to be bonded. Then the veneer is applied to the product and straightened with a hot iron or lapping hammer. The high temperature of the tool melts the adhesive and it bonds the veneer to the backing.

The first two methods are used mainly for small surfaces. In this case, it is not required to apply special surface treatment, in contrast to the third method. Therefore, most of the questions for beginners arise about how to glue veneer on MDF, plywood, chipboard or a similar surface by hot pressing. Check out the sequence of actions:

  1. Surface preparation. If this is an old product, dismantle the fittings, decorative elements. Remove the old coating with a spatula, preheating it with an iron. Smooth the surface with wood filler and sandpaper when dry.
  2. Material preparation. If the veneer sheets have been rolled into a roll, they must be straightened. For quick straightening - dampen the sheets with a sponge. Then, to absorb moisture, lay paper, and on top - a load, for example, a sheet of plywood, chipboard or MDF.
  3. Cut out the material. Combine the veneer sheets in a set of the desired sizes, but first select the pattern on the front side. Carefully join the sheets and connect with adhesive tape along the joint, as well as perpendicular to it. The connected set should be 7-10 cm larger than the glued surface.
  4. Glue application. Before gluing the veneer to plywood or MDF, it is necessary to evenly apply the glue to both surfaces. A layer of glue applied to the veneer should dry within 24 hours. Leave the set allowances free to press down with a weight that will prevent the veneer from twisting and warping as it dries. Apply glue to the substrate just before gluing. The glue on the base must also be dried to a viscous state.
  5. Lapping. This process is carried out along the grain of the veneer. Use a hammer or iron for lapping. Straighten the veneer carefully to remove air bubbles between it and the base.

Finishing consists of trimming allowances and light sanding. You can use the product in a day.

What glue to glue the veneer on at home?

It is necessary to process the ends of the chipboard.

The most popular and readily available wood glue is PVA emulsion. There can be many names for it, "Joiner", "PVA glue", simply "Joiner". The composition and quality are still the same. If you want to glue the veneer to the end of the chipboard, then at the beginning it is necessary to properly prime this end with the same glue. In this case, adhesion will be guaranteed. Contact adhesives based on rubber have proven themselves very well in veneering.

Although wood is glued with other types of adhesives.

Although, if you think about it, covering the ends of the chipboard with veneer is a troublesome task. It's easier to buy the right amount of melamine edging, take an iron and in five minutes the edging is ready.

You can even use ordinary (construction) PVA glue.

The veneer is glued to the surface using the pritikri method, an iron is often used at home, but if there is a lapping hammer, then this is even better.

The tool (iron, hammer) is heated up to 90 degrees or more.

In general, veneer is a thinly cut plate made of natural wood, so wood glue is perfect.

There are many of them from the series "joiner", for example "Moment-joiner".

You write about the edge, in principle, epoxy glue will do it.

As practice shows, everything works in a complex here, it is important to properly prepare the surface and correctly grind it. The preparation also includes degreasing the surface to which the veneer is glued

The preparation also includes degreasing the surface to which the veneer is glued.

When choosing an adhesive, we also take into account the thickness of the veneer, but it is different.

PVA, it is not expensive, there are also more expensive options, for example, wood glue "Titebond"

How to glue the veneer, there are two options:

  • using a heated iron;
  • with glue.

The question naturally arises as to which glue it is better to glue it on. Natural veneer - thin layers of wood. PVA glue is ideal for such a material: it is easy to apply, it is quite inexpensive.

If you need to glue a thin strip of veneer at the end, then first you can create a PVA glue base on the tape: apply a layer of this glue and let it dry, repeat the procedure 2-3 times. Then glue with a heated iron.

In addition to PVA glue, there is a carpentry version of the Moment, it is also convenient to work with it. Also, urea resin (also taking into account hot gluing), epoxy, polyurethane is useful for veneer.

You need to choose such a glue so that you can immediately glue two materials - wood and plastic.

Each master uses his favorite brand of glue, someone is cheaper, someone is more expensive, but everyone has the same principle of choice - the glue must be fresh and not even just fall within the shelf life, but so that from the date of production there is no more than 2-3 months , and best of all 1 month.

For gluing veneer, you can use the following adhesives, selected by me as an example:

What glue to glue the veneer

When working with veneers, it is important to thoroughly prepare the surface. If it is coniferous material, remove the resin with a knife and work off the area with acetone.

It is also necessary to remove any knots and irregularities, get rid of greasy spots, chips and cracks. To obtain a flat surface, it is polished and primed.

The optimum moisture content of the veneer should be around 8-10%.

For working with veneer, it is recommended to use contact adhesives, which are optimal for surfaces with low absorbency. The principle of their operation is simple: the solvent evaporates from the composition, and the polymer solidifies. The result is a strong adhesion of surfaces.

Since veneer is a porous material, the glue must be thick and tough enough not to seep through the pores.

It is important that the composition does not contain water-based solvents, otherwise the veneer will absorb moisture and swell

In the “butting” method using a hot iron, PVA can be used if the surface is even. PVA glue is non-toxic, safe, easy to apply and reliably glues wooden surfaces.

For more complex elements, it is better to use professional solutions such as Titebond for wood. The adhesive is one-component and moisture resistant.

Provides strong adhesion, resistant to high temperatures, solvents. It is not abrasive and does not damage the surface of cutting products.

When asked whether it is possible to glue the veneer with epoxy resin, experts answer positively. Mezdrovy, polyurethane adhesives are also suitable, the choice of which in stores is very large.

Glue the veneer on the base step by step - we use iron and glue

  1. The first thing to do is to prepare the surface as described above. It should be flat and clean.
  2. The next step is veneering with an iron and a damp cloth. If the veneer has a layer of glue under the protective foil, remove the foil and rub the material with an iron. In the absence of an adhesive layer, you will have to apply it yourself with a thin layer.
  3. When it's dry, you can start gluing it to the surface. To do this, lay the material with the glue side down and make smooth movements with the hot iron along the fibers from the middle to the edges. The temperature of the iron should not be too high, so that there are no burning spots left on it.
  4. The glue protruding at the edges is removed with a rag. After completing the process, you need to tap the surface, if a ringing sound appears, this area must be rubbed with an iron again.
  5. The glued veneer is treated with varnish or stain to protect it from external influences.

How to glue veneer to plywood

Many are interested in how to glue veneer on chipboard or plywood. The easiest way to work with flat surfaces, for example, a coffee table without protrusions and other curly elements.

To finish it with veneer, you will need:

  • a sheet of white paper
  • iron,
  • thin cutter,
  • sandpaper,
  • glue,
  • wooden block.

Pick up several sheets of plywood in width and length, preferably with a small margin. The veneer can be simple or curly. In the first case, the fibers are arranged in parallel, in the second, the pattern is more diverse, and you can experiment with it.

Apply a thin, even layer of glue to the table surface and veneer sheets.

Put a sheet of material in the right place and smooth it with a preheated iron. To avoid burning the veneer, use a white sheet of paper as a spacer between the material and the iron.

Iron the heated place with a wooden block.

Put the next sheet with a little overlap and repeat the procedure. Excess material is carefully cut off.

It is important not to overexpose the glue while it dries, as it quickly loses its properties. After finishing gluing, make sure there are no air bubbles by tapping the surface

If they remain, cut them with a thin cutter, if necessary, fill in a little glue and warm up again with an iron.

After finishing gluing, make sure there are no air bubbles by tapping the surface. If they remain, cut them with a thin cutter, if necessary, fill in a little glue and reheat with an iron.

Some helpful tips:

  • the color of veneer sheets should be matched to the color of wallpaper, furniture and other interior elements,
  • docked veneer sheets of different tree species look original,
  • if you decide to pre-paint the sheets, after painting, rinse them with running water and dry them in a warm place, but not near heating appliances.

Thus, following a simple algorithm, you can quickly, easily and inexpensively give a second life to many things in the house, as well as implement your design ideas.

We glue the furniture edge with our own hands

There are two technologies for gluing furniture edging tape. The first is for those who have glue on the back. In this case, you need an iron or a hair dryer. The second is for gluing tapes without glue. In this case, you need a good universal glue that can glue plastics and wood products and a furniture roller, a piece of felt or a soft rag so that you can press the edging well against the cut.

It's real to get such an edge at home

A little about how thick the edge to glue on what parts. Those edges that are not visible, according to GOST, can not be glued at all, but basically they are trying to process them so that moisture is less absorbed into the chipboard, and also to reduce the evaporation of formaldehyde. Melamine tape or PVC 0.4 mm is glued to these edges. The edges of drawers are also processed (not facades).

On the front ends of the facade and drawers, it is better to use PVC 2 mm, and on the visible sections of the shelves - PVC 1 mm. The color is chosen either to match the main surface or "in contrast".

How to glue a piping with glue yourself

The adhesive is applied to the melamine edge, sometimes it is on PVC. If you have chosen PVC, it is easier to start with thin ones - they are easier to process, any melamine is glued simply.

We take an iron and a fluoroplastic nozzle on it. If there is no nozzle, a thick cotton fabric will do - so as not to overheat the tape, but to melt the glue. A construction hair dryer is also suitable for this purpose. We put the iron on about "two", while it heats up, cut off a piece of tape. Length - a couple of centimeters longer than the workpiece.

We put the edging tape on the part

We apply the edge to the part, level it, smooth it out. There should be small pieces hanging from both sides. We take an iron and, through a nozzle or a rag, iron the edge, heating it until the glue melts. Warm up evenly over the entire surface. After the entire edge is glued, let it cool. Then we start processing the edges.

Warm up with an iron

The edge can be cut with a knife, both with a sharp and a blunt side. Someone uses an ordinary metal ruler, someone is more comfortable with a stainless steel spatula.

So, take the tool of your choice, cut off the hanging edges of the edge. They are cut close to the material. Then cut off the excess along the part. Melamine and thin plastic can be easily cut with a knife. If the PVC edge is thicker - 0.5-0.6 mm or more, difficulties may already arise. Such edges can be processed with a hand router, if available. This guarantees a good result in a short time. The processing will take longer if you use sandpaper, but the result may not be worse.

Even a trowel with a hard blade can be used

One important point: when gluing thin edges, the cut of the part must be even, without protrusions and depressions. The material is plastic, which is why all defects are visible. Therefore, you will first go through the cuts with sandpaper, and then carefully dust, degrease. Only then can you glue.

Edging with PVC tape (without glue on the back)

With this method of self-gluing PVC edges, you need a universal glue and a piece of felt or rag. We read the instructions for the glue, we carry out all the actions according to the recommendation. For example, for the Moment glue, it is necessary to apply and distribute the composition to the surface, wait 15 minutes, and firmly press the surfaces to be glued.

Apply glue and wait - no problem. To tightly press the edge to the cut, you can use a wooden block wrapped in felt. Instead of a bar, you can take a construction float, and fasten felt on its sole. As a last resort, you can roll up the dense fabric in several layers and thus press the tape to the surface.

Press firmly, leaning on with all the weight

The selected tool is pressed against the laid edge, pressed with all weight, pressing it against the surface of the chipboard. At the same time, the movements are stroking. So iron the entire edge, achieving a very tight fit. The part is left in this form for some time - so that the glue "seizes". Then you can start processing the edge.

History of the creation and use of veneer

Even the ancient Egyptians made veneer by cross-cutting a tree trunk. The massive use of veneer began when a peeling machine was invented, which made it possible to separate thin plates from wood. An improved peeling method was applied in Germany by Fleck. This method is still used today.

Both in ancient times and today, veneer is used mainly as a finishing material for cladding doors, furniture and walls. In practice, the use of veneer solves the ecological problem of forest conservation, since it reduces the consumption of wood in furniture production.

On an industrial scale, machines are used not only for veneer production, but also for veneering. The most common is a hydraulic press for gluing veneer on chipboard. The use of such sophisticated equipment is essential for greater productivity. The compressive forces of the press do not play a significant role in industrial veneering technology, as they can damage the material to be glued.

It is possible to veneer surfaces with veneer even if there is no special machine. Before you know how to glue the veneer at home, you need to choose the right material.

For this, it is important to know what types of veneers are produced and how they differ from one another.

Description and characteristics of silicone

As a result of the chemical synthesis of polymers, elastic silicone is obtained. There are several types of material - elastomers, liquids, resins. The most common is rubber-like silicone, which has been widely used since the middle of the last century.

The main characteristics of silicone include the following:

  1. Security. The material contains no toxic substances, so it is harmless to humans, animals and the environment.
  2. Wide operating temperature range. The ability to maintain shape and quality at extreme temperatures expands the range of applications.
  3. High elasticity. Even after long-term use, the material remains flexible, does not undergo crumbling and cracking.
  4. Water resistance. Silicone products can be used in places where there is frequent contact with liquid, as well as directly in the aquatic environment.
  5. Inert to microbes. Exposure to parasites does not affect the structure and appearance of the silicone. In addition, disinfection can be carried out easily if necessary.

How to glue at home

To achieve a strong and reliable fixation, the surface should be properly prepared and the technology for applying the substance should be strictly observed.

Surface preparation

Fixing veneers is considered a simple process that requires strict adherence to instructions. Otherwise, the lining may come off. First, the surface must be carefully prepared. It should be borne in mind that the material is not glued to the untreated canvas.

To prepare a door or other product, it is recommended to do the following:

  1. Remove the canvas from the hinges. This is done with a screwdriver or pry bar.
  2. Place the product on the floor.
  3. Remove fittings - decorative elements and handles.
  4. Remove the old coating with a sharp trowel. It is permissible to heat it with an iron or a building hair dryer.
  5. Sand the coating with sandpaper or a special machine.
  6. Cover holes and defects with a special putty, which is designed for wood.
  7. Apply wood glue.

How to prepare and cut material

To carry out the work, the required amount of material is required. Usually veneer is sold by the meter. The purchased material needs to be cut. First, the rolls should be straightened to level the veneer. Thanks to this, it will take on a natural shape.

It is recommended to measure the web carefully. After that, it is permissible to cut it. There should be 5 centimeters of allowance on each side. This will prevent problems with erroneous measurement. Use a plywood knife or plunge saw to cut the material. It is recommended to use a professional electric tool. This will help you get accurate and beautiful cuts. You cannot use scissors. They will lead to the formation of cracks in the material. It is recommended to choose veneer in the form of boards or stripes by pattern. After that, you need to glue the sheets with glue. This is done along perpendicular lines and joints.

Gluing methods

When using a two-component adhesive, mix the ingredients together. You can then commit in an optimal way.

Cold contact method

This is a rather complicated method. To carry out the procedure, you need a contact adhesive designed for veneers. This product is characterized by a minimum holding time, which helps the glue to set quickly. This method is not suitable for inexperienced craftsmen, since it does not allow correcting errors in the work.

Hot glue

This is an easier way. First, both surfaces are treated with a layer of glue, which must dry within a quarter of an hour. Then the veneer is applied to the main sheet and ironed with a hot iron. It is also permissible to use a lapping hammer.

The device helps to heat the adhesive layer. As a result, it melts and provides a secure fixation of the veneer and base. In addition, all air bubbles are released during the procedure. This helps to improve the hitch quality. This method requires a thick glue. If the surface dries too quickly, the base should be lightly sprinkled with water. Large bumps are gently punctured or incised. Then they should be ironed again.

Cold press bonding

For this type of procedure, it is worth using the Titebond adhesive. They should treat both surfaces and level them with a spatula. After that, it is recommended to attach the veneer to the base. Then carefully adjust the position of the material and secure it with a clamp. The fixing elements must remain until the adhesive is completely dry. After that, they should be removed and the reliability of fixation assessed.
