Various gluing cases
In hardware stores, you can find several types of solutions for gluing parquet, but when choosing a material, you need to take into account the overall dimensions of the planks, the type of wood and the base material. There are certain rules to help you choose the right adhesive for wood parquet:
- when using a plywood base, it is recommended to use a compound with maximum adhesion to a cement-sand screed or wood. In addition, the solution must be elastic;
- in the case of gluing strips of block parquet made of ash or oak to plywood, a water-dispersed composition is used, provided that the size of an individual element of the flooring does not exceed 42 cm in length and 7 cm in width;
- when gluing a factory parquet board, a one-component polyurethane glue is applied to plywood, which will prevent warping of the floor covering;
- for gluing any parquet, the lower surface of which is covered with a layer of varnish, use a glue that is resistant to vertical tearing. Before carrying out installation work, the material is tested for pull-off. Peeling of varnish from the surface of the product is not allowed;
- the sticker of a parquet board made of exotic wood (cherry, maple, pear, beech) is carried out on an adhesive mixture that is resistant to changes in temperature and humidity conditions. It is best to carry out installation on a silane mixture of the Bona brand or another, since there is no water in this composition;
- a large-sized parquet board, which is fastened by means of grooves and locks, is fixed on a two-component reactive glue or on any other mixture that does not contain water. Massive parquet boards with a width of up to 12 cm should be glued onto an elastic mortar;
- when fixing the floor covering to a cement-sand screed, you must choose a mixture with high adhesion rates in relation to the base surface.
The matter does not end with the choice of the brand of glue, it is also necessary to use the composition correctly, observing the temperature regime of laying the parquet and the operating conditions. If the glue breaks down at low temperatures, then it is undesirable to use it in houses with irregular heating. In this case, in winter in frost, parquet boards or dies can fall off. When covering a heated floor, it is also necessary to take into account the properties of the adhesive to withstand temperature fluctuations. The choice of adhesive is based on many factors. In general terms, the parquet mix should be strong, of high quality and elastic, then it can last as long as possible.
Safety measures when using the composition
Even experienced craftsmen are required to follow the instructions for using two-component adhesives.
- It is necessary to apply the composition with rubber gloves. Protect your eyes when mixing components with special work glasses.
- If the glue comes into contact with exposed skin, immediately treat the affected area with warm soapy water. If particles of the composition get on the mucous membrane of the eyes, you should seek medical help as soon as possible.
- The optimal working conditions are a ventilated room. Otherwise, be sure to use a respirator. Individual elements of the solution volatilize during application and dilution.
Manufacturers
Among the most famous brands of two-component composition, there are Uzin MK 92 S. In terms of its technical characteristics, it is not inferior to the version of "Poxipol", a feature of which is its amazing adhesion rates - it grasps even under water.
For bonding heavy surfaces (metal, titanium, concrete), the construction market offers the composition "Universal 302".An important point - this tool is not suitable for surfaces based on zinc, copper, polyolefins, celluloids.
For light metal, as well as plastic, wood substrates, you can use the universal glue "Interbond". One of the components of the composition is produced in the form of a viscous paste, the second has an aerosol form of release. Each of the components is applied to one of the surfaces to be glued, after which they are applied to each other.
The product "Akfix 705" is also characterized by an interesting consistency. Its uniqueness lies in the fact that the glue does not flow down, and therefore it is very convenient for attaching cladding and other materials to horizontal surfaces. It is used for plastic and wood, leather and rubber coatings.
Two-component Loctite adhesives are represented by zionacrylate formulations, which are completely safe from an environmental point of view. The range includes special compounds for cosmetic repairs, fixing rubber products, insulation of electrical wires.
3M glue has increased strength and improved adhesion, resistance to high temperature effects and vibrations. Due to its technical characteristics, it finds application in industrial conditions, although, if necessary, it can also be used for domestic needs.
For metal surfaces, you can use Scotchkote 2-component polyurethane adhesive, which is capable of curing even at low temperatures. A distinctive feature of the composition is also the anti-corrosion effect it provides.
Parquet adhesive: what should it be?
Adhesive for parquet boards is not the case when you need to save too much. Poor-quality compositions can have a detrimental effect on the structure of the tree - it quickly dries up and deforms. For example, this happens in cases where the manufacturer has increased the declared percentage of water in order to reduce the cost.
So that you do not have to worry about an early local repair, pay attention to the following characteristics of the tool:
- Strength. Despite the fact that this floor covering lasts from 50 to 70 years, in fact, this operational life is much shorter. And this happens not because of the state of the material itself, but because of damage and detachment of the adhesive layer. That is why the strength indicator is more important than other parameters.
- Elasticity and uniformity. The low elasticity of the dried product leads to a violation of the natural processes of expansion or drying of the dies, from which it will eventually exfoliate. The uniformity of the composition, as a rule, indicates that it will not give local shrinkage, which means that the coating elements will not begin to creak over time.
- Water content. Its percentage is indicated on the label and is always within acceptable limits for conscientious brands. But before you buy water-based parquet glue, keep in mind that it is not suitable for all types of wood, as this material is very sensitive to moisture.
- Toxicity. There are a number of very high-quality and effective solvent-based formulations, but we must not forget that you can work with them only with glasses and a respirator, in the absence of people. Most often, these adhesives are used in social facilities during renovations.
Parquet glue - types
By components and properties, the compositions are divided into the following main groups:
- Dispersive. They are water-based within acceptable limits and are environmentally friendly, safe, and fast drying. They are used for durable and moisture resistant species, such as oak.
- Solvent-based. The products are toxic and require special respiratory protection, however, they are reliable, durable and elastic, suitable for all breeds.
- Polyurethane (one- and two-component). They are distinguished by their strength, do not shrink, and significantly strengthen the coating. They can be called universal and the most purchased in Russia.
- On MS polymers.Modern high-quality products, durable like polyurethane and elastic like silicone, they are easy to handle, they are environmentally friendly and provide good sound insulation.
- Hybrid. They are versatile and durable, withstand heavy loads, but are considered less elastic than the previous group. Usually used when pure MS polymers cannot be used.
Two-component adhesive: types and applications
For bonding various building and finishing materials, in most cases, a special adhesive is used, which includes two components. Such an adhesive provides strong and reliable adhesion of various materials.
But before using this substance in the process of repair work, it is necessary to familiarize yourself in advance with its characteristics, features and scope of application, and in order not to be deceived by dishonest manufacturers, it is also important to analyze the manufacturers of two-component formulations in advance.
Peculiarities
Two-component adhesive combines two types of ingredients in its composition - special resins, as well as hardeners. The latter can have a different state of aggregation: liquid or powder. But in any case, it is necessary to carry out the main procedure before using the glue - mixing its components, which provides the material with the ability to harden.
To prepare the composition properly, you must strictly follow the instructions for its dilution indicated on the package. The instruction contains information about the proportions of the ratio of components and the time required for exposure after dilution. Some formulations imply a different way of mixing the two substances. If two surfaces are to be glued, then a resin is applied to one, and a hardener is applied to the other, while the mixtures are mixed directly when the two surfaces are joined.
The two-component composition quickly sets to the surface and hardens. Besides, it is very difficult to remove it.
In some cases, the process of gluing or sealing with epoxy becomes irreversible, so it is important to carefully prepare the surface so that the adhesive composition, in addition to performing its key functions, does not contribute to the appearance of incidents in the repair.
A two-component material for bonding wood and other surfaces is often sold in buckets. One of the ingredients is presented in dry form. In this case, add the dry component to the bucket and mix both components thoroughly.
Depending on the specific brand and specific components in the composition of the epoxy, such glue can be stored from half an hour to two hours. Then it becomes unusable due to its thickening consistency.
When the composition is already applied to the surface, it will maintain its performance for 1-2 hours.

Two-component parquet adhesive: compositional features
The entire range of such products can be divided into three types:
Two-component polyurethane adhesives. This is the most common and most purchased option of all. It has average elasticity and stiffness, it does not have a pungent odor, it is suitable for work in residential premises and, in general, is absolutely universal - suitable for all wood flooring of any species, including exotic ones. It is distinguished by a limited working time - about an hour and a half, as well as strength, elasticity of seams, no shrinkage and resistance to increased operational loads
Application is possible both on a cement and on a plywood base, it is only important that it be dry, even, without traces of construction dust, in order to prevent local deformation of the future canvas.
Epoxy-polyurethane. Epoxy products in their pure form form a very strong, but low elastic layer, therefore they are rarely used today.
Epoxy - polyurethane compounds in this sense are much more reliable, since they have high strength, thanks to the epoxy base, and good elasticity, thanks to the addition of polyurethane. Its working time is longer than that of pure polyurethane - from one and a half to two hours.
Powder adhesives. Powdery diluent giving an ultra-strong layer, ideal for plywood, board and block parquet. It is economically used, has frost resistance and a small viability - about forty minutes.
Characteristics and application
The main advantages of two-component compounds: increased strength of the joints, no shrinkage and negative impact on all types of wood, rapid hardening. The only difficulty is the need to mix the components of the product. When choosing, you need to correlate the manufacturer's recommendations with the existing working conditions (wood species, installation method, and so on).
Laying is carried out on dry, absolutely clean and primed surfaces in rooms with low humidity. The components are mixed in the recommended proportions with a construction mixer for two to three minutes
The mixture is applied with a spatula with great care so as not to spoil the appearance of the material to be laid.
In most cases, the planks are pressed by hand and weights are placed on local areas for better adhesion. Although more expensive polyurethane-based products work almost instantly and do not require such measures. To preserve the aesthetic appearance of the finished parquet surface, it is necessary to use cleaners or napkins impregnated with a special composition. Such measures will save you from unnecessary, unnecessary hassle of removing dried remnants of the adhesive layer.
