Our subscriber Irina sent us her boho-style design project, which cost her only 100 thousand rubles. So, to the point. First-person article.
The total area of my studio apartment is 32 square meters. The budget for the entire renovation is 100 thousand rubles. I planned to leave the furniture I already had. Redevelopment was also not necessary, because a small budget simply will not cover such costs.
The apartment is divided into two areas: public and residential areas. A small entrance hall ends with two doors: to the bathroom and to the room with the kitchen (they are combined). The room has both a sleeping area and a living room.
Rough work has been minimized. Only in the kitchen and in the hallway did they remove the old wallpaper and put a primer on the walls for subsequent painting. The wallpaper in the room was in good condition, so it was simply repainted white. The floor covering was also left, the parquet was relatively new. The ceiling and bathroom also remained intact.
Before the renovation began, the apartment had three large closets for storing things. Two of them were in the hallway and one in the room. Now the need for them has disappeared, so they decided to leave only the wardrobe built into the wall. The entire set was not changed in the kitchen, because it was quite small. And I ordered a wooden table in the form of a bar counter and black chairs in the color of the cabinets in the kitchen. The first cost 10 thousand rubles, and the chairs for 3.
I didn’t replace the lamps in all the rooms, I just added two interesting shapes of table lamps to the living room. I especially liked the round one, so I decided to put it in the center of the room on a coffee table.
Even before the renovation, I liked the absolutely black blanket, I decided to buy it on the sofa. And it is beautiful, and it will not spoil much.
The entrance hall was painted gray, which favorably separated the dark-colored furniture.
A lot of old furniture remained intact. These were shelves, a sofa, a coffee table, a kitchen. I only decided to update the sofa, for this I ordered a new dark cover, and also bought pillows for it. I bought a bench from Ikea in the hallway.

Interior style
I preferred the boho style, it seemed to me especially cozy. I bought small paintings in the living room, green plants and decorative pillows also fit perfectly there. The coffee table was decorated with a beautiful composition of a lamp, a vase and plants. On the shelves, again, I placed flowers and all sorts of their cute little things. The space around the kitchen table was decorated with travel souvenirs. And a new clock appeared on the windowsill.
Since I decided to make all the walls white, in order to visually increase the space, it was necessary to dilute the furnishings with something so that the apartment does not acquire an overly restrained look, for this I used fresh flowers, vases and figures.
Difficulties in work
The main problems in the renovation were the harmonious design of new wall finishes and old furniture. It is always easier to think over the design of an apartment from scratch than to adapt to an already existing base.
All repairs were completed in one month.
After completing all the work, I made some points for myself that I want to share with you, dear readers:
- If you are renovating a small room, use only light shades to paint the walls. Thus, you will visually enlarge the room.
- In order to give the atmosphere a touch of comfort, use materials of a natural look. It can be wood, linen, or cotton. In addition to decorative properties, such materials are absolutely environmentally friendly.
- Don't underestimate accents. With them, the room can be made bright and lively. For example, decorative pillows for a sofa or well-chosen paintings can breathe life into absolutely any space.
- The grouping of accessories is very important. Decor elements individually look at least ridiculous. But a good composition will create a harmonious look.
