Storing gladioli
This flower undoubtedly attracts attention. Bouquets of gladioli are luxurious, royal, like the plant itself. He really has a noble posture, take a closer look. And the colors are so bright - just scatter the eyes! And although the decorative culture requires some care, the contemplation of blooming gladioli is definitely worth it.
One of the important stages in the cultivation of this amazing plant is its storage during the winter. Gladiolus does not withstand low temperatures, so you need to dig it out before the first frost. After that, the tubers are stripped of leaves and left to dry under a canopy in the fresh air for about a week. Then you should carefully shake off the remnants of the soil from them (leaving, at the same time, the protective scales) and remove the old bottom with roots.
Young corms are stored much better than old ones. Before that, you need to carefully sort through the "material" for the presence of sick, parasitized units. If there are many of them, you will have to pickle them in insecticides, fungicides, boric acid. Traditionally, it is believed that it is best to store gladioli in a dry but cool room. However, there are gardeners who claim that even at +19, the bulbs do not dry out, since they come from the hot tropics. Therefore, some store them in the refrigerator, others in the basement, and still others just at home, under the sofa.
There are folk methods to protect planting material from diseases and pests. For example, from mold fungi, it is treated with molten paraffin. Parasites, various insects will be scared away by the cloves of garlic spread between the roots of gladiolus.
