Raspberry trees: features and benefits
What is it? In fact, it is a crimson tree, which is a bole with five to seven tops. Standard crops should be distinguished from trellis crops, as these raspberries are grown using wire stretched over a wooden support.
The raspberry tree is capable of reaching two meters in height. The plant does not need pruning and additional support. The ripening crop does not bend the branches to the ground. The berries are distinguished by their large size, significant weight (up to 15-20 grams), wonderful taste and extraordinary aroma. They are dense and ideal for transport.
Up to 40 berries can form on one branch. One raspberry tree gives 4-5 kilograms of berries, and with increased care, you can collect 7 kilograms.
Landing
Standard raspberries require some features when landing... Since the plant turns out to be quite spreading, it requires more living space, which means that raspberry bushes should be planted much less often.
It is recommended to grow standard raspberries in rows, leaving a distance of 70 centimeters between the bushes, and 1.8-2 meters between the rows. This planting will provide excellent lighting and ventilation for the raspberry trees.
Before planting, it is required to apply mineral and organic fertilizers to the soil. Plants can be planted both in spring and autumn. The raspberry can grow in one place for up to 15 years.
Raspberry care
Standard raspberry belongs to unpretentious plants that do not require special care. But if you surround her with special attention, then yield will increase significantly.
The beginning of spring for standard raspberries is characterized by careful care by gardeners. After all, it depends on how early it will be possible to start pinching the tops. Such simple actions will allow you to get the bulk of the ovary until the first half of September and protect the berries from frosts that are characteristic of early November. In autumn, at the end of fruiting, the side shoots are cut out.
The top pinch in order to increase the number of lateral shoots, and, consequently, the number of peduncles and berries. If you want to get a real "tree" side shoots are removed, leaving only one.
Raspberries need to be watered regularly: without watering the crop, you will not get not only this year, but also next year. But watering should be moderate so that the roots of the plant do not start to rot.
To better retain moisture and replenish the soil with fertilizer, it is recommended to mulch the land around the bushes, using humus with peat as mulch.
Almost all varieties of standard raspberries are characterized by high winter hardiness.
Standard raspberry varieties
One of the most famous varieties of standard raspberries is the Tarusa variety. Also, Fairy Tale, Surprise, Krepysh, Galaxy, Shtambovaya-22, Shtambovaya-24 are often grown.
The main advantage of the Tarusa variety is that the plant does not produce shoots spreading over the garden plot. This increases the number of berries reaching 16 grams in weight. Therefore, Tarusa is recommended for those who grow raspberries to get berries.
An important fact is the resistance of Tarusa raspberries to all kinds of pests and diseases. But if, nevertheless, the bush got sick or pests attacked it, then the yield and taste of the fruits will not change at all. Raspberries of the Tarusa variety are quite frost-resistant (they can even withstand frosts of thirty degrees) and easily survive the winter.
The variety Surprise is almost the same as Tarusa, but it has sweeter berries.
The sturdy one is characterized by a strong root system and a large number of growths. Therefore, this variety is usually bred by those who sell planting material.
The Fairy Tale variety got its name for a reason. It is characterized by an increased yield: 12 kilograms of berries can be harvested from one bush with good care. Each berry reaches 18 grams in weight and has a sweet taste with a raspberry aroma. Berries are characterized by density and transportability. Like Tarusa, the Fairy Tale is characterized by increased winter hardiness and disease resistance.
Super-productivity is also characteristic of the Galaxy. Each bush is capable of producing 8-12 kilograms of berries, and with proper care - up to 18 kilograms of very large (10-18 grams) juicy berries. The berries have a sweet taste, pleasant aroma and transportability.
If you provide the proper raspberry stock care, then she will present you with delicious fragrant berries all summer and all autumn.
