Features and benefits of the variety
Strawberry "Lord" has many advantages among other varieties, in particular, they include:
- large size of berries
- excellent taste
- easy care
- frost and disease resistance
- renovation
Already in the third year after planting, you can collect a fairly decent harvest of strawberries. And on the fourth, it is quite possible to remove up to 3 kg of beautiful sweet and aromatic berries from one bush. The dimensions of the strawberries are impressive: the berry can weigh 60-80 g.
The number of peduncles on the planting bush doubles annually. On a mature bush, there are up to 25-27 peduncles. In one and the same place "Lord" can be up to 10 years, but, unfortunately, after 7 years the yield of the variety begins to decline.
Strawberry "Lord" is a mid-season variety that gives large yields of large juicy berries, for which it is very much appreciated by amateur gardeners.
The Lord's bush reaches 50 cm in height. It has strong stems and flower stalks, which, under the weight of ripe berries, can sometimes come into contact with the ground, so it's better to tie them up. During the ripening period, its rounded conical shape of the berries form their own color, they have a bright red, has a pleasant aroma and sweet taste. The variety is considered to be remontant and makes it possible to collect several harvests per season. And excellent frost-resistant performance allows you to grow strawberries even in the northern regions.
Landing dates and rules
Planting strawberries is easy, the main thing is to choose the right place and prepare the soil. Spring is considered the best time to plant the "Lord". As for the choice of a place for a garden bed, preference is given to a flat area or a slope well fertilized with humus, located in a well-lit place. When planting bushes in a lowland or shaded area, high yields will be difficult to achieve. The site needs to be selected spacious, since this variety is sprawling and does not like thickening.
Having chosen a place, you should prepare the soil. To do this, it must be neutralized from possibly present parasites: before planting the plant, the soil must be treated with specially developed anti-weed drugs or an ammonia solution (water the garden with it, guided by the recommendations indicated on the package). Immediately before planting, the land does not need to be waterlogged, it must be sufficiently moist and loose.
Landing features:
- You can, of course, arrange the bushes one after another in rows, like ordinary strawberries, but it is best and even more correct to plant them in a checkerboard pattern. So there will be plenty of places for massive bushes, and harvesting will not be a problem.
- For planting, a hole is made 10-15 cm deep, it must be watered with water. Some gardeners add to the bottom of the hole ashmixed with sand.
- Then a seedling is installed in it so that the root collar is at the level of the soil, and it is carefully sprinkled with earth with fluffed hands. It is not compacted very tightly and is watered again.
- From above, the hole can be tied sawdust mulch, this way moisture will be better preserved and future berries will not touch the ground (they will be clean).
After the mother bush gets stronger, "antennae" will begin to develop. Having reached a certain length, they will touch the ground and put down their own root, thus a new bush will grow. Each rosette will become an independent plant and in order to separate and transplant it, it is enough to bite off the "mustache", carefully dig out the root and you can immediately plant it in a freer place or even in another area.
Some gardeners use the "under film" method of planting strawberries.
To do this, the bed is covered with a sufficiently large piece of polyethylene, holes are cut in it in place of the holes and planting material is planted in them, as in the previous case, in this case, strawberry sockets. The film serves as a cover, an excellent means of retaining moisture and from weeds and creates maximum convenience for harvesting.
Care advice
Proper care of this strawberry variety involves mulching, removing possible weeds, watering, fertilizing and combating diseases and pests:
- "Lord" responds well to organic feeding... Strawberries can be safely fed with humus or diluted chicken droppings... In gratitude, she will generously present you with a good harvest of berries.
- Mulching the bushes with sawdust or chopped needles will protect the soil from drying out and prevent weeds from germinating.
- It is necessary to remove the "antennae" of the plant, if they are not removed in time, they will take away the strength, moisture and nutrients from the plant.
- Like many other varieties of strawberries, "Lord" needs watering. It is especially necessary during the ripening period of berries. The special sprinkler irrigation system is especially suitable for this variety. Watering is carried out in the morning or evening, but during the flowering period it is better to water the strawberries at the root.
- Systematic loosening and weeding is also necessary for the plant, for this you can use an aerator and scarifier, especially if large areas of strawberries are processed. These devices will help moisture and fertilizer to penetrate directly into the root zone.
The consequences of improper care
Strawberry variety "Lord" differs from other varieties in its resistance to frost and to many diseases, however, with insufficient or improper care of the plant, certain problems may arise:
- If you do not prepare strawberries for winter, they may die. This is especially true for young plants and strawberries grown in the northern regions. In cold winters, it is covered with mulch, foliage or special agrotechnical fiber. In the spring, with the appearance of the sun, the shelter is removed.
- Densely planted strawberries will not be able to give the proper harvest, they will be smaller than planned and less sweet. Therefore, it is necessary to plant seedlings correctly, if necessary, thin them out and cut off the "antennae".
- If you do not water strawberries, especially with the development of berries, they also do not gain weight and will taste sour.
Diseases and pests, their signs and control of them
Strawberries of the "Lord" variety are rarely attacked by insects or diseases, but infections are still possible:
- Sometimes a strawberry mite can attack a plant, while the leaves will curl, deteriorate and fall off. You need to fight the disease by spraying the bushes with a solution of acaricides. The drug "Actellik" is very effective (1 ml of a chemical is diluted in 600 ml of water).
- Bushes can be affected by the stem nematode, with which the leaves are covered with small light spots. The disease is eliminated by spraying the plant with fungicides - Auparen or Horus.
- With waterlogging and shaded planting, gray rot may occur on the plant and fruits. You can overcome it in the folk way: dilute mustard powder (100 g) in 10 liters of water and spray the bushes after two days of infusion.
With proper and timely treatment of the diseases that have arisen, the plant can be saved and the harvest of large and juicy berries can be saved.

Strawberries "Lord" are very good and we have one bed growing in a dacha in the suburbs. I think the variety is so good that you should try to plant it. Buy a couple of bushes, then, if you like it, propagate with antennae! And you will like it.
What a beautiful girl! I grew this variety at one time, then it was transferred and stopped bearing fruit. Will definitely plant it again this year. It keeps well, tastes good in jams, and retains its shape after freezing.
