Strawberry yield and the secrets of its increase
Often from amateur gardeners you can hear that strawberries are the queen of their summer cottage, in fact, this plant has royal privileges and dignities, it requires all the best: a plot with fertile soil, well-lit by the sun, with the possibility of regular watering. Nevertheless, the berry shows a truly royal capriciousness, even with very careful care, the strawberry yield is not always pleasing.

In principle, strawberries can be grown on any soil, but only plants planted on podzolized black soil or light dark gray forest soil can give the maximum yield. Sod soil on the site, or light gray, will not provide especially good yields. The presence of groundwater is of great importance, but at the same time they should not lie close to the ground surface.
Ideal for planting strawberries will be a site with a slight slope - a couple of degrees, and it is desirable that it be on the southwestern slope. The acidity of the soil should be in the range of 5.5 - 6.5, the presence of humus in the soil is mandatory, at least 2%. Important: for normal plant wintering, the soil temperature at a depth of 15-18 cm should not freeze, otherwise there is a risk of plant death.
What seedlings should be planted
- A high yield will help to get the planting of high-quality seedlings. It should be chosen based on the following parameters: the diameter of the root collar should be at least 6 mm, the length of the root processes - 7-9 cm.
- It is better to stop your choice on varieties of the first reproduction or elite. IN
- It is better to plant seedlings dug out in late autumn and stored at low temperatures (frigo plants).
- You can plant seedlings in early spring or in August-September.
We plant seedlings correctly
Plants are planted in a well-moistened soil; the plants themselves must have a well-developed root system. The entire length of the root, usually 8-10 cm, sinks into the ground, the root collar should be at ground level. before planting, the plants are best kept in a cool room for 4-5 days. when planting, it is undesirable to keep the box with seedlings in the sun, in extreme cases it should be covered with a light cotton cloth. After planting, the bushes are abundantly watered, then the earth around them is covered with humus or fine dust from straw - so that the soil does not dry out and does not form a crust.
There are no special secrets for caring for seedlings, but only careful implementation of all the rules will increase the yield of strawberries:
- The plant requires timely, without long interruptions of watering. With an insufficient amount of moisture, there is no need to talk about bountiful harvests. This process can be optimized by installing a drip irrigation system. But it should be borne in mind that excess moisture can cause fungal diseases of plants or cause a decrease in their frost resistance.
- Particular attention should be paid to the cleanliness of the row spacing - they should not grow weeds.
- The preservation of plants and crops will be helped by timely pest control. Along with the traditionally used drugs, you can use methods of biological protection, namely, insect entomophages.
- It is not recommended to plant a berry on an area where cucumbers, tomatoes, potatoes previously grew. It is not recommended to plant it in the wrong area where this berry has already grown - such planting leads to an increase in the strain activity of the spores of pathogenic fungi, to the multiplication of ectoparasites.
- You should not get too carried away with nitrogen fertilizers when feeding - this can lead to an increased risk of fungal diseases.
- The mulching process is very useful for strawberries - it will prevent the soil from drying out, will help retain moisture, and prevent the growth of weeds near the bushes. For correct mulching, lay pieces of packaging cardboard on the ground around the bush, cover them with a layer of dry grass or chopped straw.
- The timely introduction of humus or manure will contribute to an increase in strawberry yields.
- To obtain a stable, high-quality harvest of berries, you should change the area for growing strawberries every 5 years, this measure will help maintain productivity and plant health.
- You should also take care of the timely renewal of varieties, because pathogens tend to adapt, at some point your plants may be completely defenseless against them.
As you can see, the rules for caring for this garden crop are quite simple, but their implementation will help to carry out proper care and get an excellent harvest.
