Fragrant rue: some interesting facts about the plant

A beautiful and at the same time quite unpretentious plant, which can grow literally everywhere, except for excessively sunny places, called fragrant rue will envelop your site with an amazing aroma. The smell of this plant resembles that of citrus, but only when the rue grows in the garden. If the flower is cut, then as it dries, its citrus aroma is gradually replaced by a sweeter one, surprisingly similar to the scent of a rose.

Fragrant rue, unlike almost all other plants, will feel best in poor, dry and loose soil containing a significant amount of sand. There is no particular need for frequent watering of this plant, as well as for feeding it. The same goes for transplants: the plant will grow well in the same place for decades. Ruta is propagated by seeds, which should be sown before winter, or by seedlings (then planting should begin in March), while the germination of the planting material is very high. In addition, this plant has a tendency to strong cuttings, which makes it possible to reproduce by dividing the bushes.

It is necessary to work with this plant very carefully, as it contains a poisonous essential oil. After contact with the stems or flowers of the rue, it is advisable to wash your hands with soap, and it is better to transplant and cut it with rubber gloves. But, despite this, traditional medicine recognizes and appreciates the healing properties of rue, which is used externally and in the form of tea. However, caution should be exercised here, because large doses of this plant can cause quite severe poisoning, as well as burns (when applied externally).
