Seed Gloriosa - Growing Secrets
Gloriosa is a tuberous perennial with curly lashes capable of climbing supports to a height of about two meters.
The homeland of this truly magnificent plant is the countries of tropical Asia and Africa.
Gloriosa is prized for its stunningly beautiful flowers of a bright scarlet color. It is thanks to the flowers that gloriosa is classified as a highly decorative flower crop.
It is preferable to propagate plants with tubers, so the growing process is faster and more successful. But you can try and sow gloriosa seeds harvested from plants after flowering or purchased from the store.
Gloriosa from seeds develops very slowly, and plants propagated in this way begin to bloom only in the third year of life.
If you want to get seed from the plants you already have, you will have to resort to pollination of gloriosa flowers. Moreover, it is not necessary to transfer pollen from one flower to another. It is enough to transfer the pollen with a soft brush to the stigma of the same flower from which it was taken. So self-pollination will occur, as a result of which the ovary of the future fruit and seeds are then formed.
It is advisable to sow seeds immediately after harvesting. The substrate is prepared from a mixture of peat, sand and sod land, each component needs the same amount.
Gloriosa germinates from seeds subject to an ambient temperature of + 20-25 degrees. But even under these conditions, seeds germinate slowly, it will take two weeks to wait for the first shoots.
After the sprouts get stronger, they must be sorted and planted in individual pots.
