Columnar flower of cold autumn
Squat plants, funnel-shaped flowers with a delicate color give real rainbow colors to late autumn days. Colchicum grows in Europe and Asia, as well as in northern Africa. It is somewhat outwardly reminiscent of a tulip, although it does not belong to this family. Some species of this plant bloom until the first snowfall, and some in early spring.
As a decorative culture, the crocus flower is unpretentious. It can grow and develop for a long time in one place, unless there is enough light for it. In too shaded places, flowering will be scarce, and the plant may wither away. On good garden land, not clogged, loose and light enough, it will get used to it perfectly, and will not cause trouble for its owners, only joy.
Despite all its advantages, the crocus still attracts not so many gardeners. There are several reasons for this. First, this plant is poisonous. You need to work with him only with gloves and at the first symptoms of a disturbance in well-being (burning in the throat, nausea), stop working. Secondly, large leaves do not look so presentable as long as there are no flowers. Yes, and those in the period of heavy rains can easily lie down.
Some recommend planting crocus corms very tightly, next to each other. Others allow themselves a distance of 15-20 centimeters. If you decide to plant this unique plant on your site, you may have to fight slugs. They really love to gnaw delicate flowers.
Colchicum is perfect for the embodiment of various floristic compositions. And even being cut in a vase, it will stand for quite a long time, pleasing the eyes of its owners (but not in the bedroom, of course).
