Proper care of phlox: watering, feeding, soil selection
Some growers compare phlox to weeds, because they grow without much care and attention in their direction. But just with proper care, phloxes can become a real decoration of a flower bed and garden. Phlox care depends on their type, because old varieties do not look as impressive as new varieties of these plants.
Proper care of phloxes means choosing the right soil for planting them, watering and fertilizing, which play a significant role in their unsurpassed appearance.
In order for phloxes to bloom their full buds and delight their owners with a lush color, it is very important to provide them with proper watering during the growth and laying of buds. Phloxes are not watered over the plant, since such watering can lead to the development of fungal diseases. These flowers must be watered into the soil near the bush, and the flowers themselves will take the necessary moisture from the soil. That is why the ground around the plants should always be moist.
Phloxes need mandatory feeding, especially during the flowering period. Fertilizing a plant is associated with periods of plant development, which are divided into three phases. For each period, certain minerals and nutrients are needed as top dressing: nitrogen and water are very important for the growing season, potassium and phosphorus for the budding period; during seed ripening, it is very important to provide sufficient phosphorus to prepare the plant for winter. In no case should humus be introduced under the phlox bush.
Sand, peat, compost, wood ash can be added to the soil of clay consistency; it is also good for phlox to dilute the soil with compost from needles.
