Stevia - a plant that is a sweetener
Among flower gardeners, you can often hear about Honey grass (sweet two-leaved). In plant growing, this herb is called stevia - a plant with many beneficial healing properties, moreover, it is a natural natural substitute for sugar due to the content of glycosides (steviosides).
Stevia is used in the following cases:
- As a low-calorie sugar substitute in various diets, as well as for diabetics and people suffering from lipid / carbohydrate metabolism disorders;
- For the treatment of heartburn, obesity and hypertension;
- For strengthening the circulatory system, the immune system, regulating cholesterol and blood sugar.
Stevia is an unpretentious plant to care for and grow. It is easy to grow it both at home and in the garden, following only a few basic rules:
- Maintain the air temperature from 15 to 30 degrees of air, ideally - 22-25 degrees;
- Water once a day with boiled water;
- Use real land without peat or limestone;
- Top dressing is carried out only twice a month;
- Be sure to remove withered or curled leaves;
- Give the plant enough sunlight and try to keep it away from the wind.
Stevia reproduces independently by seeds, but gives few offspring. The best way to propagate this type of plant is by cuttings. The breeding season is from mid-spring to early autumn. An important point is to protect the root system during transplantation or direct planting.
Stevia leaves can be used in salads, tea, and confectionery. The greatest sweetness is achieved during flowering and mainly with those leaves that have been in the sun for the maximum time.
The first time I saw stevia was in a health food store and bought it for myself to try. It turns out that you can easily grow it in your country house!
