What are the benefits and harms of sunflower seeds?
There is hardly a person who would refuse to spend the evening at an extremely exciting occupation - pecking sunflower seeds. Tens and hundreds of thousands of people in all countries of the world like to snap seeds, and at the same time, few people are worried about the benefits and harms of sunflower seeds. It would seem, what benefit can there be from them? And even more so, such a tasty thing cannot be harmful. However, this is by no means the case.
Let us consider in detail what are the benefits and harms of sunflower seeds. Seeds are, first of all, a storehouse of vitamins B, E, A and D, very important for our body, which improve vision, strengthen bone strength and stability of the nervous system, rejuvenate the body and increase efficiency. The seeds contain about twenty percent of the protein, which contains amino acids. The selenium present in them is an excellent antioxidant that removes harmful substances. Among other things, seed shells are an excellent ingredient for home scrubs, which are very good at removing impurities and dead cells from the skin.
However, along with the benefits, seeds bring significant harm to our body. So, the constant cleansing of the nuclei gradually destroys the enamel of the teeth (however, you can save your teeth if you open them with your hands). And those who follow a diet should completely forget about seeds, because they are an extremely high-calorie product. For clarity, you can give the following example: in terms of calorie content, one glass of seeds is equal to a portion of fatty pork kebab or half a loaf of white bread.
I didn't even think that sunflower seeds are so high in calories. I think the main thing is to know when to stop! I would also add pumpkin seeds to the list of useful products.
The main advantage of sunflower seeds is that they and nuts are very rich in vegetable protein, but at the same time they contain less potassium than nuts, and this is often important. But at the same time, their harm to the teeth is difficult to overestimate, because few people snap their hands, this is not at all the same.
I thought that the main harm from seeds is the garbage that inevitably occurs when eating them. I think that the harm to the teeth is much exaggerated, because the shells of pine nuts are much stronger, and I snap them almost every year for two or three months until the stockpiles I have finished running out. And nothing, and my teeth are intact, and I'm full! And now about the calorie content ... The energy of seeds is replaced by their considerable laxative effect, which no one will deny. But this, of course, is the opinion of an amateur ...
