Planting strawberries on film
The agricultural technology of garden strawberries is being improved every year, the main goal is to obtain large, high-quality berry yields. Despite the existing long-term practice of growing this berry, gardeners are constantly introducing new methods, be it processing, watering, fertilizing or planting seedlings.
One of the new, but already quite popular methods of agricultural technology is planting strawberries in beds covered with black film or non-woven material. Thus, the bed is completely isolated from external factors and mainly from weeds. When choosing this method, it is necessary to take care of fertilizing the soil in advance, in addition, the amount of fertilizer applied should be enough for the entire period of growing bushes.
Planting strawberries on film includes the following steps:
- preparation of a low bed;
- application of potash, nitrogen and phosphorus fertilizers;
- moistening the garden;
- covering the bed with a film and securing it with boards or earth;
- cutting holes in the film (the film is cut with a cross, the corners of which are bent inward, the distance between the holes is 30 cm, between the rows is 50 cm);
- direct planting of seedlings into holes in the film;
- plentiful watering of seedlings.
The black film covering the beds perfectly retains moisture and heat, which is so necessary for garden strawberries, protects against weeds and pests. This method of planting ensures early fruiting of strawberries, in addition, the berries do not come into contact with the ground, remain clean, and are less prone to rotting.
As the bushes grow, the holes in the film need to be increased by about 1-2 cm per season.
In the fall, I planted strawberries in this way, covering the bed with foil. But she did not land on a flat surface, but created mounds and planted berries on a hill. Do you think it is necessary to remove the film for the winter?
I think that it can be removed - it will decay anyway over these months. And the snow will come down, remove and fertilize the ground and you will use a new covering material.
