Purslane in the photo
The purslane in the photo is a short annual and perennial herb with juicy, open stems. Flowers are collected in bunches of two and three or single, axillary or apical. Flowers are yellow, white, sometimes dark brown. Purslane in the photo has a brightly colored perianth. Purslane blooms from May to October. The leaves are arranged in the next order, fleshy, glabrous, whole, cylindrical. The fruit is a polyspermous unilocular capsule. When ripe, the capsule opens wide, they are harvested at the stage of yellowing. Seeds are round, rough, numerous, shiny. Plant height reaches 10-30 centimeters.
Large-flowered purslane is popular in gardening. It is used in rocky gardens and curbs, and is also placed in pots, outdoor vases, hanging baskets, window and balcony boxes.
Purslane is sown in the lightest place for the best flowering of the plant. For indoor conditions, it is advisable to choose south-facing window sills. Large-flowered purslane is a heat-resistant plant. The plant loves warm conditions; for good growth, a temperature of about 20-26 degrees is required. The plant should be watered regularly, especially during hot and dry periods, but there should be no stagnation of water. Purslane is completely unpretentious to soils, it grows well even on poor soils. Purslane does not need fertilizers. Large-flowered purslane is used as an annual plant. Seeds remain viable for up to four years.
Purslane is also used in folk medicine.
