How to make a good greenhouse for cucumbers
The middle zone of Russia has such climatic features that frosts happen even in late spring. What can we say about the northern regions of our country.
But nevertheless, owners of personal plots in any region want to grow fresh vegetables, therefore greenhouses and greenhouses usually come to their aid.
These facilities make it possible to obtain rich harvests of vegetables even under rather difficult climatic conditions.
But, of course, it is impossible to get a good harvest if the greenhouse is not properly organized. Therefore, it is worth talking about some of the nuances and various ways of arranging greenhouses separately.
Almost any gardener grows cucumbers on his site. They are eaten with pleasure and fresh directly from the garden, and rolled into jars for the winter. In order to collect a lot of cucumbers from the beds, it is better to create greenhouse conditions for them so that fruiting is continuous throughout the season.
What is a greenhouse for cucumbers
The shapes of greenhouses can be seen in different gardens. It can be a wooden box covered with a plastic wrap that transmits light well on top, and a small pit equipped with a wooden strapping for keeping seedlings, and modern polycarbonate structures.
Film greenhouses
Most often, this is the design of the greenhouse chosen by gardeners for growing cucumbers. Moreover, preference is mainly given to low structures, because in them the earth warms up faster and the heat is better retained.
In markets and gardening stores, you can buy special arcs that are stuck into the ground above the garden with cucumbers, and dense polyethylene is fixed on top of them. The film can simply be pinned to the ground with pegs or even pressed down with an improvised material such as stones or bricks.
Immediately on the same day, it is not recommended to plant cucumbers in a film greenhouse. For several days, the greenhouse must stand empty in order to create a certain favorable climate for plants.
The advantage of film greenhouses is that it is a mobile structure, it is easy to move it within the garden. Therefore, their construction is usually done by hand, does not require a lot of labor and material investments.
It is worth remembering that on hot days, such greenhouses need to be opened so that the plants in them do not swoop down and burn out. At night, the cucumbers will again need to be covered with foil.
Mini-pit for a greenhouse
If you want to make a greenhouse in a pit, then you must carefully choose a place for its placement.
It is better to give preference to a bright, well-lit place on the site. Next, you should dig a pit 50-70 cm deep and attend to the installation of a heat-insulating layer and organic litter.
Crushed stone, sand or gravel, their combination can act as a material that retains heat. And organic bedding can be made from sawdust, straw, fallen leaves, humus.
The box for the greenhouse can be made of wood, but it is better in this case to treat it with an impregnation that protects it from quick damage and harmful insects. You can make the box metal or stone for a longer service life.
The frame can be made from wide metal rods, and the film can already be pulled over it. Often gardeners use not ordinary polyethylene, but the so-called stretch film. It has the best tensioning characteristics without sagging. The temperature in such a greenhouse is higher, which ensures faster ripening of cucumbers.
Polycarbonate greenhouse
Recently, such designs are gaining popularity. They are easy to mount if you bought a ready-made greenhouse, and easy to assemble yourself if you buy all the components separately. In addition, you can assemble a mobile greenhouse or a stationary one.
The mobile polycarbonate greenhouse for cucumbers consists of a support frame, a bottom, a special wheelchair on wheels. The frame is usually made of planks, and the bottom of the greenhouse is made of plywood.
All parts are fastened together with self-tapping screws. The wheels are mounted on special legs and the larger the diameter of the wheels, the easier it will be to move such a mobile greenhouse around the site.
To facilitate the construction, honeycomb polycarbonate is used for glazing frames. Windows are made removable or fixed so that they can be opened for ventilation and access to plants.
A plastic wrap is usually laid at the bottom of such a greenhouse, and then soil is poured.
There are also more massive stationary structures made of polycarbonate. They are good because they do not have to be disassembled for the winter, because the polycarbonate material tolerates frost well, does not deteriorate due to low temperatures.
With any design of a greenhouse, seedlings of cucumbers should not be planted too crowded, so that subsequently stagnation of moist air among the plants does not form, leading to the development of various fungal diseases of cucumbers and rotting.
