Dichondra ampelous irreplaceable in garden design
Dichondra ampelous appeared on our flower market quite recently, but has already managed to win the hearts of both amateur flower growers and professional landscape designers.
Dichondra is an annual, deciduous plant. The length of the falling shoots reaches from 1 to 1.5 meters. There are several types of ampelous dichondra:
- "Emerald Falls" has large green leaves and grows well in partial shade.
- Dichondra is silvery (creeping), its leaves form a dense carpet with small flowers of white or purple color.
- The most popular type of plant is Silver Falls. As the name suggests, the leaves of dichondra have an amazing silvery hue.
Dichondra ampelous care
The color of the leaves of the dichondra determines the degree of lighting the plant needs. So for species with dark green leaves, both a shady location and a sunny side are suitable. Representatives of silver leaves feel great only with sufficient sunlight.
The optimal soil for dichondra is loamy with neutral acidity and good drainage.
Maintain the plant's shape with a little pruning, which is a great way to stimulate new shoot growth. Dichondra ampelous drought-resistant, but still a lack of moisture will negatively affect the color of the leaves, slow down growth.
Dichondra is from California, so the winters here are not for her. So, in cold weather, the plant should be kept indoors.
Dichondra is propagated by cuttings or seeds. Seeds for seedlings are sown in the middle of winter. For germination, you need to maintain high humidity (for this, the pots are covered with plastic wrap), the air temperature should be within 20 -24 degrees.
Cutting is an easier way to propagate dichondra. Cuttings root fairly easily.
