Correct pruning of lilacs

Pruning lilacs plays a rather important role in the cultivation of this tree. True, here you need to be literate and take into account the fact that all varieties of lilac are cut in different ways. Therefore, first of all, find out what kind of lilac you are going to grow on your site.

For example, there are such non-fertile varieties as the Beauty of Moscow and Lesya Ukrainka. They can be pruned at any time of the year, even in winter. After all, the absence or presence of inflorescences does not affect the formation of flower buds.

How to grow lilacs?

If you are interested in growing lilacs, then you must definitely study the types of pruning, which is intended both for branches and shoots of the crown, and for faded inflorescences. Dry branches must be cut until they reach 2.5-3 cm in diameter. Otherwise, the rot, which forms over time, will penetrate into healthy wood and turn it into dust.

Lilacs in the country, as a rule, are grown as a bush or as a small tree with a stem. Moreover, in both cases, the crown must be formed at two or three years of age. To do this, select 3-4 powerful shoots that are directed from the center in different directions, and cut the rest into a ring.

Pruning of common and broad-leaved lilacs, or rather, its inflorescences should not be done late. Indeed, because of this, nutrients can go to the formation of seeds and fruits, and not to the laying of buds. As a result, the lilac may not bloom next spring. Knowing these simple rules, you will always enjoy the beauty of this magical tree.
