Crocus flowers: planting and care features

Crocus flowers are quite capricious sissies, and in order to admire their flowering in early spring, you should start preparing a site for them in the fall. So, before the onset of cold weather, a sufficient amount of manure and compost should be introduced into the soil. By the way, the soil for planting plants should be loose and fertile. Areas with clay soil must be fertilized by adding sand to the compost, since crocus bulbs react very badly to stagnant water.

Crocus flowers are very demanding on the amount of sunlight, which should be as much as possible. Of course, the plant will also grow in the shade, but its flowers will be quite small and faded. Ideal neighbors for crocuses will be other bulbous plants with a later flowering period, for example, daffodils, tulips or hazel grouses, as well as perennials.

Already after the appearance of the first shoots, the soil must be regularly watered, be sure to first fluff it: this way moisture and air will penetrate more easily, which will favorably affect the condition of the plants. Watering should continue throughout the crocus flowering period. As for the fertilization of the soil, then, by and large, there is no great need for it, if a sufficient amount of nutrients were applied to the site before planting. However, if flowers have been growing in one area for several years, it is better to feed them using fertilizers containing potassium and phosphorus. These substances are necessary for the development of healthy and large bulbs, as well as the formation of well-developed buds and prolonged flowering.
