Gerberas: diseases, pests and control measures
In order for the flowers to be pleasing to the eye and attractive, they must be properly cared for and should start from the correct planting site: a sunny place, with moderately moist and fertile soil.
You can not overdry the earth, as well as waterlogging, sometimes in too hot weather you need to spray the plant and shade it when the sun is too bright, scorching.
Gerbera can be damaged by ticks, aphids, scale insects and whiteflies, then the leaves of the flower will turn yellow, spots and gaps will appear. To combat pests, you will have to use chemicals - insecticides. When buying a plant, you always need it! examine carefully the gerbera for pests.
If you abuse watering, or if it is carried out irregularly, then fill the plant, then dry out its soil, if you disturb the humidity and temperature of the surrounding air, you can achieve the appearance of various diseases, including the most common ones: decay and powdery mildew. Again, the leaves will “tell” about problems in the “life” of the plant, they will turn yellow, lose their elasticity and become covered with spots, and plaque of different colors may appear on them. To combat diseases, you can use a drug such as Fitosporin or a fungicide that is available, and sometimes it may be necessary to remove damaged parts of the plant.
Gerbera diseases:
- decay, when the bottom of the root of the plant begins to thin out and rot, in this case, usually, nothing will help;
- powdery mildew, manifests itself through the appearance of plaque, white and fluffy, on the leaves;
- gray rot, manifested through the wilting of the green part of the plant and the appearance of a gray bloom;
- alternaria, manifests itself through the appearance of brown-red spots on the leaves and petioles, over time the leaves turn yellow and fall off;
- mosaic, characterized by the appearance of green-yellow spots on the leaves of different sizes, the leaves are deformed.
My mother and I have been growing gerberas for several years in a row. Very beautiful flowers with harsh petals. We did not provide any special care, but everything was fine with them. Diseases and pests bypassed them.
