Grafting apple trees in spring and its types
It seems to inexperienced gardeners that grafting apple trees in the spring is too tough for them. Indeed, this process is quite complicated, requiring compliance with a number of nuances. But if desired, even a beginner will be able to figure out the issue.
Apple grafting:
- used for growing planting material
- needed to "repair" damaged trees
- used to create a multi-varietal fruit tree
Before grafting an apple tree, you need to properly prepare the cuttings. It should have kidneys that have not yet begun to develop. Cuttings are usually harvested in November-March, and until a certain time they are stored in the basement, cellar or refrigerator.
Grafting of trees is carried out based on when the sap flow begins. Therefore, ornamental and stone fruit plants are first grafted, and then - pome fruits. It is clear that all apple varieties belong to the latter type of trees.
Growing apple trees
If you are interested in how to grow an apple tree, then you need to pick up the soil first. The tree prefers loamy soil mixtures. If the soil on your site is clayey, then add compost, peat and river sand to it.
Apple tree care consists of regular watering, weeding, pest control and fertilization. But even if all these important requirements are fulfilled, you may eventually find some apple diseases that you should be able to recognize. For example, a bacterial burn is often found, which is visually associated with the gradual drying out of the growths and blackening of the leaves.
