Peculiarities
Plastic paint is different from formulations that are applied to other materials. Its application also has its own specifics. For example, plastics based on ABS and PVC must be coated with a special primer before painting, which should be purchased at a car or paint shop. The mixture is sprayed and wiped, the treated surface dries for at least 60 seconds.
Basic requirements for staining:
- thorough drying and cleaning of the surface, freeing it from lubricating oils, dust particles, and so on;
- preliminary preparation is necessary in all cases, with the exception of applying acrylic water-based paint on polystyrene or ABS;
- the temperature of the plastic, the colorant and the equipment to which it is applied must be carefully balanced;
- it is advisable to heat the air to 18 degrees and above, it should be dried up to 80% or less;
- it is necessary to apply only one layer, the thickness of which is on average 60 microns;
- when drying, plastic products are kept at a temperature of 18 to 60 degrees, depending on how thick the layer is applied.
Preparing the window for painting
To make the frame look neat after applying the paint, it is necessary to remove all the fittings, the doors themselves, and protect the glass before painting. If the latches and hinges are faulty, they are repaired and replaced. Locks and handles that cannot be removed are simply wrapped with masking tape to protect against paint. This will avoid unnecessary cleaning.
In addition to fasteners and handles, glass sheets must also be prepared for painting. Most often, white paintwork materials are used for coating, which, after drying, are very noticeable on the glass. Therefore, even before mixing the paint, the joints of the frame with the glass are sealed with wide masking tape on both sides. It is better for novice craftsmen to glue all the glass with newspapers. We paint the frames carefully so as not to create unnecessary work for ourselves.
Note! Scotch tape is not attached to the frame, but with an indent of 1.5-2 mm. This distance will allow the paint to penetrate into the cracks of the frame, thereby protecting the wood from destruction and from the accumulation of moisture .. It is not recommended to use old glazing beads for glasses on old frames
Such structures wear out quickly, so it is better to replace them with new ones. For preparation, new glazing beads are sanded, covered with a primer and paint. After drying, they are nailed onto the frames. We choose high-quality coating materials so that after a while you do not have to replace some elements with new ones

Painting methods
The paint coat is available either in cans or in aerosols. Which option to choose depends on the size of the product and the experience of the person who will carry out the painting work.
-
Spray cans are more appropriate for a small object to be painted, it is not difficult to work with them, but before starting, you should try it by sprinkling a little paint on an unnecessary surface, this will help you understand how best to spray in order to get the desired result. In general, the aerosol method will give a good even coverage.This method does not allow mixing tones, and thus it will not work to apply clear color boundaries.
-
A can of a larger volume than a can, but storage in it is possible only for a short time. For this reason, it is more often used for a large amount of work. It should also be taken into account that working with a brush is much more difficult and requires skill. Otherwise, an ugly trace of bristles may remain on the product, and stains, the coating will be uneven and aesthetically unkempt.
The use of a spray gun can facilitate the process; a roller is rarely used. For a beginner, the spray method will be more suitable.
Preparing plastics for painting
As mentioned earlier, you should carefully prepare the product before starting work in order to get an excellent result. This stage includes the following steps:
- Get rid of the previous cladding, you can use sandpaper, solvent, construction hairdryer.
- Get rid of contamination.
- The product must be degreased using a solvent.
- Treat the product with an antistatic agent.
- If required, apply a putty.
- To ensure good adhesion, the surface is treated with no more than 180 sandpaper, after the completion of this stage, the object is again cleaned and dried.
- Degreasing is carried out again.
- Carry out priming work, if required.
- Rub and clean again.
The product must be degreased using a solvent.
Plastic dyeing technology
Having chosen the type of coloring agent, it is worthwhile to understand the method of work. The article will discuss two technologies: painting with a brush, and application with an aerosol.
They work with a brush, making wide straight strokes, initially move the brush gently, then press harder, so the coating will become thinner, and the finishing stroke is also done softly to align. If everything is done correctly, then a one-time work with a brush is enough.
General recommendations:
- The brush should not be dipped whole, the tip is enough;
- You should strive to make the layer as thin as possible by pressing on the bristles;
- Maintain a slope in the working position of the hand.

Spray operation process:
- They put the product on a flat surface, for example, on a chair, mark the part to be painted with paper tape, close the lying objects (with film, newspaper, paper);
- You must first shake the aerosol;
- There should be 20-30 centimeters to the subject;
- Spray paint smoothly in one layer, keeping the balloon straight;
- For complete coloring, it is worth making two or three layers;
- Wait for the time indicated on the package between the application of layers until it dries;
- After completion of the work, the tape is immediately removed.
Once dry, you can varnish the item to increase durability. Acting in the same way as when painting.

Plastic paint is a great option to freshen up old items and give them new life. The presence of a wide variety of colors allows you to come up with various solutions for decoration. Before painting the plastic, they include all the imagination, they take the tools necessary for this process, as a result, you can perfectly decorate your home yourself.
Features of PaliPlast paint
- Window sill paint is best applied to surfaces at a room temperature of at least 30 degrees. This does not mean that it is impossible to work in a colder room, but drying will take much longer. At a temperature of 20 ° C, drying will last from 8 hours, depending on the humidity of the room.
- The buyer will have the opportunity to choose not only the appropriate color, but also the texture. In the line you can find mother-of-pearl paint or metallic.
- Preparatory work must be carried out before painting.To do this, the surface that you are going to paint must be thoroughly cleaned of dirt, dried and degreased. You can use special impregnations that will help increase the adhesion properties of the plastic.
- After that, a special primer is applied to the surface. You can paint the plastic only after it dries. This will take at least a day.
- You can apply paint as usual: by spraying it from a spray can, using a brush or roller.
It is not difficult to paint plastic, the main thing is to choose the right materials to match it. The use of ordinary paint is unacceptable, as it will very quickly lag behind the plastic surface.

Characteristics of various paints
In addition to the above coatings, oil, enamel and adhesive paint compositions are used to paint wooden windows. To decide which paint to use in your home, compare all the characteristics of the climate: humidity, precipitation and temperature difference
It is also important to consider the condition and type of wood to be painted.
Polyurethane and acrylic coatings
Paints based on acrylic and polyurethane are considered the most resistant to adverse conditions, especially moisture. In the composition of such coatings, toxic organic solvents are present, which make the composition durable. Among these two types of paints, polyurethane paints are more durable, they are extremely wear-resistant, therefore they are recommended for use in outdoor decoration. However, polyurethane paints have one drawback - high cost. In this matter, acrylics are inferior to them, because they are more popular with novice craftsmen.
It is also important that acrylic coatings can be diluted with water, mixed with pigments to obtain complex shades. However, white paint is most often chosen.
Alkyd paints
Today, alkyd paints are increasingly being chosen. In addition to resistance to weathering, this type of coating has another plus - it perfectly withstands treatment with aggressive detergents and oils. The coloring composition applied to the primed surface can last up to 5 years. Such a paint can withstand temperatures from plus 60 to minus 50. Such a paint is good for applying to coatings that are in the open air.
Nitrocellulose Window Coatings
Nitrocellulose paints are also suitable for wood window frames. The only feature that should be remembered when using such coatings is the mandatory active ventilation of the premises during operation and drying. The paint contains acetone, which gives off vapors after application. In addition, paint burns very easily and should be kept away from sources of ignition. White coatings are very popular.
Increasingly, homeowners are covering window frames with clear compounds. Varnishes perfectly protect wood and allow you to admire the natural structure of the material. The composition of clear varnishes is identical to alkyd enamels, with only one difference - no coloring pigments are added to varnishes. The choice of this material is the best solution if you want to preserve the texture of the wood. The main condition is that the selected material must correspond to the operating conditions.
Varieties of paints for pvc products
We paint plastic
Today on the market of paints and varnishes there is a huge variety of paints with which you can qualitatively cover pvc structures. They can be either in the form of an aerosol and spray, or in the form of a customary paint for application with a brush or roller, which can be either matte or glossy or pearlescent.
The technical characteristics of paints suitable for plastics are shown in the table.
- Maraplan is a great example for work on pvc structures.
Finishing work with such paint is performed using a roller, sponge, brush or spray.If such paint on plastic is applied at a temperature of 20 ° C, then after 20 minutes you can start applying a second layer, and after 4-5 hours the product will be absolutely ready for use. Maraplan paint is very resistant to ultraviolet rays, as well as resistant to mechanical damage. But, it is better not to subject the film to mechanical overloads until the coating is completely dry.
- Rainbow-180 is an absolutely white glossy coating for pvc canvases.
This plastic paint is used to decorate windows, window sills, baseboards and other hard plastic, which can be used for both exterior and interior finishes. In addition to pvc, the aerosol is also suitable for various surfaces, as well as putty and wood. You can work with such paint at 15-75 ° C, and the next layer can be applied after 1-2 hours. This paint is great for outdoor decoration.
- Snezhka is an acrylic-based enamel for decorative framing of hard pvc and other materials.
According to the advice of experienced craftsmen, it is better to apply such a coating in 2 layers. After applying the paint, the surface of the plastic will be dull after 5-15 hours, and this coating can be used for both external and internal work.
- Akmilite is a coating that can glow blue or green in a dark room.
We paint plastic with our own hands
This paint is widely used for works on pvc, ABS, polystyrene and polypropylene. It has an increased level of strength and weather resistance. This paint has proven itself well when restoring pots, furniture, souvenirs, window and door blocks using a spray gun or by dipping from 1 to 3 layers, as indicated in the instruction manual for the material. Before starting painting work, as well as during their implementation, the paint must be thoroughly mixed all the time, because the additives are prone to settling, and the time for drying the finish varies within 2-4 hours.
- Gamma - acrylic paint, presented as aerosol.
The palette of such a finishing material contains about 25 shades that are applied to plastic, wood and steel, and it is also great as a spray for applying graffiti. The decorative coating obtained in this way will be weather-resistant, have a deep color and a muted shine. To achieve the best result, it is better to select a white base (if we are talking about a fluorescent version, this requirement is mandatory). Sometimes it is necessary to adjust the material in 2 layers to increase the contrast and enhance the color, but it is allowed to reapply the material only after 30 minutes, so that the lower coating has time to dry properly.
It is also worth highlighting a separate category of paints that include chrome. Chromium is also called as "mirror paint" and is most appropriate in mechanical engineering. To apply chromium to the surface of the product, both an aerosol and a galvanic method are used, the difference will be almost imperceptible.
Today, finishes such as chrome (especially in aerosol form) are gaining more and more popularity. Chrome, by its mirrored features, bewitches the eye of passers-by, so mottos and motorists love to use it.
In addition to its high strength, chrome can withstand high temperature changes, and it does not matter at all what aerosol is used for application or the painting was produced at the factory. Chrome can have a gold or silver color, which can also be an interesting detail when decorating the interior of your apartment.
In addition, chromium has excellent physical, chemical properties and an affordable price.

Painting the frame in several layers
After filling, the frame becomes smooth, which means that the paint will lie flat. In order for the coating to have a dense surface, a multilayer application is used. Painting is quite simple:
- the work surface is cleaned of dust and dirt so that fresh paint does not come in lumps;
- the composition is opened, mixed and filtered through a fine mesh.
Some masters apply paint from a can to the prepared coating, which is highly discouraged. Typically, various coating materials are sold very thick, and a thick film of paint and solvent forms on their surface. When applied, this formulation gives a thick layer that will drip and form thick accumulations of paint. Such a coating will not look aesthetically pleasing, and over time it will quickly crack.
It is not recommended to pour the entire jar into the dilution vessel. Add a little paint to get the consistency you want. You should not choose a solvent on your own, ask a consultant about which composition is recommended for this coating.
The first layer of paint is made liquid so that it penetrates into the structure of the array. Before applying a second coat to an already painted surface, the first must be completely dry. The third layer promotes adhesion to the wood. For two finishing layers, the composition is made thick to prevent drips. If droplets and accumulations of paint form, remove them with a cloth and solvent. Do not wait for the drips to dry, they quickly harden and spoil the look of the entire frame.
When painting the window frame, the brush is dipped into the vessel only half of the pile. This will protect the tool from the formation of surplus and permanent smudges. Coating begins on the side facing the street.
Note! It is best to work with several 3-4 sizes of brushes. To cover a large area, use a thick one, and for difficult areas, a small one, a couple of centimeters wide. Window frames are painted with a flat brush, it creates a flat and even stroke
To keep the line straight, the brush is placed on top of the frame bar and released, allowing the brush to slide out under its own weight. Under the force of gravity, the tool draws a straight, almost perfect line

After the window is completely painted, you need to wait until the frame is completely dry. Only after the coating is completely dry, the protective tape is removed. It is worth remembering that paint should be removed from wooden windows before work.
Having familiarized yourself with the peculiarities of different coatings and the rules of application, you can paint the windows yourself without resorting to the help of specialists. When choosing a coloring composition, its characteristics should be correlated with the operating conditions of the coating.
Types of paints for plastic surfaces, which one to choose, criteria
Plastic paint on sale is offered in a variety of assortments. In order not to get confused and choose the most suitable and most convenient option, you should study all their features. Having studied all the information, choose what to paint the plastic with will be easy. The most common types will be described below.
Plastic paint on sale is offered in a variety of assortments.
Water based formulations
Paints and varnishes are suitable for painting plastic products, they are also called acrylic enamel on water.
Typically, these dye products are created from two elements:
- The base itself is the dye;
- A hardener is a component that makes acrylic enamel for plastic more reliable and well tolerant of external influences. This component is transparent, odorless.
It helps paint easily, lays down, is stable, does not lose color brightness for a long time, it is not afraid of even ultraviolet light, it looks aesthetically pleasing. When using these paints, priming and other additional work are not required, with the exception of surface contamination. Great view for outdoor use.

Matte soft-toch paints
Items that are often touched with hands should be as pleasant to the touch as possible. This type is an excellent choice for painting phones, furniture handles, plastic toys, cosmetic bags, construction tools. This dye, in addition to a comfortable touch, also mutes sound and light, and can give an object an aesthetic appearance.
Often purchased for painting vehicles, due to its wear-resistant properties, and the ability to cover vertical planes, it also has the effect of smoothing corners.

Water-based polyurethane-acrylic paints on PVC
This type is used when it is necessary to carry out a large amount of work. They are not matte, more often this water-based plastic paint with polyurethane and acrylic components is used to cover siding, panels, PVC profiles, window frames, etc.
They are distinguished by their quality and stability. The paint is waterproof, indelible, covers the surface with a protective layer, giving the object hardness, elasticity, while they are not sticky. Shows good results during application and drying for the absence of adhesion of products to each other, no formation of defects, and preservation of decorative properties.
PVC itself is actually colorless, so it is dyed to make it more pleasant to look at. The composition of the coloring material is as follows:
- Basic acrylic paint of the required color;
- Thick white or milky liquid, i.e. a hardener that can give, either bed tones, or vice versa, bright colors (red, yellow, brown, green, generally any). It is possible to get an unusual texture by adding texture elements to the composition that will give the appropriate effect: wood, mirrors, plaster and others.

Spray paints for plastic
Many believe that only professionals can paint with spray cans. In fact, they are very convenient to apply paint, there is a large selection of colors, there is no need to mix the composition. With an aerosol, a person who first decides to paint plastic on their own will feel confident.
These paints in spray cans are produced in two types:
- The previously mentioned soft-toch, which, after complete drying, is pleasant to the touch and slightly rough, which allows you to hide some of the product's shortcomings. It is also a great option for giving the interior a twist;
- Monad enamel, on the contrary, will give a gloss to the surface, it will sparkle in the sun, it is suitable for PVC.
In this variety, it is easy to choose the necessary cartridge for a specific purpose.
Aerosol benefits:
- There is no need to buy brushes, rollers, etc .;
- Easy to use;
- The paint composition covers the product with an even and smooth layer;
- With their help, you can reproduce any coating (mirror, metal, wood, etc.);
- Maintain brightness for a long time;
- Long-term storage;
- Economical;
- If they decide to apply on a different color, then it will be easy to paint over it.

How to paint a PVC window sill with your own hands
The first is to visually assess the evenness of the surface, identify chips, cracks, and other defects. Now you need to wash the surface, including the joints with window frames, dry well.
After preparation, the algorithm of actions is as follows:
- Cover the frames with masking tape so as not to stain them with paint. If possible, it is recommended to remove the sash by installing the window sill after drying. It is impossible to remove, seal with tape as high as possible, not forgetting to protect the glass. Protection is especially needed if an aerosol is used - a dispersed substance tends to settle on all surfaces.
- Clean the surface of the window sill from glue, grease, pieces of film. If the plane was previously painted, remove the decor with a special wash for PVC window sills.
- Treat the surface with a primer. The composition can also be selected for PVC surfaces. Impregnation is also useful - the price of the compositions is high, but the coatings provide excellent adhesion, besides, the paint then lays down much smoother.
Expert opinion
Vladislav Ponomarev
Design engineer, inventor
The primer must be applied after cleaning the surface from dirt. The window sill is treated with impregnation before applying a layer of paint, that is, after sealing the defects. If there are no defects, you can immediately process the washed and dried surface.
- Defects - chips, cracks, cover up with putty. Before sealing the area of chips and cracks, clean it with medium-sized emery. After the restoration, dry it, grind it with fine emery - the plane should be perfectly flat.
- Treat the dried leveled window sill with impregnation. Treat generously, but without leaving puddles of the composition. Be sure to dry the surface before painting.
Now it remains only to paint the window sill with the selected composition and dry it. It is best to let the paint dry naturally. For aerosols, the period is up to 4-5 hours, other mixtures dry up to 9 hours.

Materials and tools
To work with plastic you will need:
- white spirit, alcohol or other solvent;
- primer;
- putty for filling irregularities;
- sandpaper with fine grain: after processing the primer and the plastic itself, the paint adheres better;
- aerosol can, for covering large objects with a spray gun, roller or brush;
- rags or wipes;
- masking tape for covering the surface that is not being treated;
- sealant.
If the plastic is planned to be used outdoors, choose a special heat and water resistant paint for plastic. Such formulations should also not be afraid of ultraviolet rays.
For a flat, smooth surface, it is better to apply them with an aerosol. It is more convenient to use spray guns or rollers to cover large plastic items. When using brushes, choose products from the softest bristles that do not leave streaks.
Water-based acrylic paints
This is a fairly popular paint for wooden windows. It has high technical characteristics, the price of the material makes it affordable for buyers. The main substance is acrylic resin diluted with plain water. The paint is odorless, well suited for wood products, does not emit harmful substances.
The positive properties include the economy of paint, the ability to dry quickly, the ability to form a plastic coating, due to which the paint layer is not disturbed by temperature extremes. If you use colors, you can get any desired shade. In the sun, the paint does not fade, does not lose color saturation. The material is not afraid of low temperatures, moisture, suitable for use both outdoors and indoors.
acrylic water-dispersion enamel for windows
Window frame paint can also contain other additives that increase its performance, for example, various antiseptics to combat fungi and mold. With the addition of certain components, the material can become a serious obstacle to fire.
When covering the frame with fire retardant, cover other window components with it; do not forget about the window sill, slopes, and other structural elements, which also consist of wood and may be damaged in case of fire.
If the window includes metal elements, you cannot use paint designed for wood on them. For them, you should choose a similar one, but designed specifically for metal structures. For example, Polistil can be attributed to high-quality fire retardant paints.
Colors for acrylic paint
What fits
It is clear that in production these problems can be solved, because in hardware stores all MDF products are of high quality and smooth to the touch. Will you be able to achieve such an effect with your own hands?
We will return to the surface preparation process later. The main thing at first is to figure out how to paint MDF at home. We need special formulations with high hiding power.
These include:
- acrylic enamels and aerosol paints.
- enamels made on an alkyd-urethane, alkyd or oil base;
- polyurethane enamels.
Acrylic enamels
This group is considered environmentally friendly, since it is a water-dispersion composition based on acrylate or latex copolymers. Most manufacturers recommend their use in living quarters and even children's rooms.
Another plus is good protection of surfaces from moisture and temperature extremes, which is quite important for furniture and sliding MDF screens in bathrooms.
The following compositions can most often be found on sale:
Name | Options | price, rub. |
Belinka AQUA EMAIL | The composition is endowed with good hiding power and, when applied, creates a glossy film. The manufacturer allows the composition to be applied over old paints and varnishes.
The use of an insulating soil is mandatory. Among the features of this composition are:
|
590 for 0.75l; 1720 for 2.5L |
Some of the compositions presented can also be used as an insulating soil. For such purposes, the manufacturer recommends diluting them with water in a ratio of 70% paint and 30% drinking water.
Before painting a white MDF door under a tree, be sure to:
- first apply a base coat of light paint, after which dark tones can be applied;
- using a special rubber brush, without waiting for the second layer to dry, process the surface to obtain the structure of the wood.
Alkyd and alkyd-urethane enamels
Another fairly large group of coloring compositions that allows you to paint MDF surfaces. If you do not know how to repaint MDF furniture with your own hands, then for independent use I can recommend the products of the following manufacturers:
Polyurethane enamels
Polyurethane compounds are primarily interesting for their wear resistance and durability. Agree that if you spend money on expensive paint, then its service life should be maximum. In the case of the type in question, manufacturers guarantee at least 20 years!
So, what can be purchased from this group on the territory of our country? Below we will take a closer look at some of these compositions:
