Bosch dishwasher error codes

Trouble-shooting

Unfortunately, not all of the above damage can be repaired by hand. For example, there are many parts on the board of the control unit, each of which has a specific set of functions. Only a qualified specialist can find out the reason for the inoperability of the computer and make repairs. In addition, special equipment is required for diagnostics.

Electronic control unit printed circuit board

It is good that ECU malfunctions are not as common as those defects that will be discussed below.

Checking and cleaning the intake filter

It is hardly possible to call clean water flowing from the taps. It contains many impurities, including solid particles of various shapes and sizes. The PMM inlet filter protects the equipment from debris that water can spread through the internal parts. Connecting additional flow filters at the inlet of the filler hoses provides a more thorough cleaning of the fluid. These filter elements are subject to periodic cleaning.

The inlet filter is located at the junction of the inlet hose with the PMM body

To clean the dirt from the inlet filter, do the following:

  1. Close the shut-off valve, disconnect the inlet hose and drain the water.
  2. Remove the filter and rinse thoroughly under running water.
  3. Put all the parts back into place.

Similar manipulations must be performed with the flow filter, if you have one installed.

The "Aquastop" module worked or broke down

Most PMM models are equipped with the Aquastop system today. If the display shows the error E15, this means that water has appeared in the sump. The reason may be depressurization of the chamber, the water tank, or one of the joints in the area where the hoses or nozzles are connected.

Aquastop solenoid valve integrated in the inlet hose

Sometimes situations arise when the safety valve located in the inlet hose does not open, although there is no leakage in the dishwasher. Such a breakdown is treated only by replacing the inlet hose along with the built-in nozzle. To find out and eliminate other causes of the malfunction, it is better to call the wizard.

This video will show readers how to replace the Aquastop inlet hose in the Bosch Edition 45 SilencePlus dishwasher:

The lock or sensor blocking the door does not work

With such a failure, the error code E06 appears on the displays of the PMM Bosch, Siemens. The breakage can be determined by ear: if you do not hear a click when closing the door, you will have to replace the locking device.

Bosch dishwasher lock

To carry out repairs, proceed as follows:

  • de-energize the dishwasher;
  • open the door, unscrew and remove the front facade or panel;
  • disconnect the cable and unscrew the screws holding the blocking lock;
  • remove the device and replace it with a new one.

Sometimes it happens that the cause of the defect lies in the ECU, which does not perceive the closing signal or does not open the door at all. If the lock is jammed, do not try to open the door yourself, otherwise you may damage the device. Better call a specialist.

The inlet valve is out of order

Intake valves are rather fragile devices and do not always withstand pressures above 1 MPa, which can rise as a result of a water hammer. There are other reasons for the failure, one of which, for example, is the lack of contact with the control unit (open circuit). The reason may be the ECU itself.

Dishwasher inlet solenoid valve

One of the reasons for valve breakage may be an open circuit in the control solenoid coil. If power is supplied and there are control signals on the contacts, check if this part is clogged inside.If so, remove the valve and clean out dirt and debris under running water. If it is clean, it must be replaced. This part can be replaced by yourself.

How to disassemble PMM and check the inlet solenoid valve, readers will be told in this video:

Cleaning or replacing the pressure switch

A damaged water level sensor causes an extraordinary situation: water continuously enters the PMM and is immediately pumped out by a pump into the sewer. Why it happens? The liquid fills the reservoir, but the control unit does not receive the corresponding signal from the pressure switch and continues to keep the filling valve open.

This part can also be replaced by yourself. Its location is shown in the photo above.

We hope that this article will help readers with their own hands to eliminate most of the faults associated with the flow of water.

Watch the Bosch dishwasher disassembly video:

Cleaning the filter

If the indicator on the control panel blinks or the machine says "no water", the cause may be a blockage of the mesh filter. It gets clogged with coarse particles and impurities that are ubiquitous in tap water, especially if the machine is connected to a hot pipe. To clean the mesh, follow the guidelines:

Close the shut-off valve.
Unscrew the inlet hose by hand.
Where the hose was screwed in, there is a small mesh

Pull it out carefully with pliers.

  • Rinse the filter under the tap.
  • If the mesh is heavily clogged, soak it for 30-60 minutes in an aqueous solution of citric acid.
  • Put everything back in place, reconnect communications, run a test idle mode to check if the problem is solved.

Control Unit Failure

In principle, any malfunction of the PMM can be reduced to a failure of the electronic module - this element "commands" all the processes in the machine. To test a board, you need practically laboratory conditions to test each of its elements. The firmware will be needed in case of minor malfunctions, in the most difficult case, the board must be replaced.

How much does the work cost?

After analyzing the prices of Bosch service centers and private repair companies, we can give approximate prices for repair work that are required in the absence of water supply:

  • Replacing the intake valve will cost you 900 rubles and more.
  • Adjustment or replacement of the Aquastop system costs from 1000 rubles.
  • Door adjustment, repair of its mechanisms - from 1000 rubles.
  • Replacing the water level sensor starts at 1,500 rubles.
  • Work with the control module costs 2,000-2,500 rubles.

Add to these prices the cost of parts that are paid separately, and you will get the minimum repair amount - from 2,000 rubles. So home troubleshooting isn't such a bad idea, especially if you're looking to save some money. But remember that if the equipment is still under warranty, it is better to contact the service center for free service, which will be provided in the absence of your fault in the occurrence of a breakdown. Good luck with your renovation endeavors!

Frequent breakdowns

Let's move on to technical issues that prevent dishwashers from working properly. It is likely that due to poor sewage water, the filter located at the hose connection is simply clogged. A special mesh acts as a filter, which can be cleaned with a regular needle, or citric acid, if you leave it there for 20-40 minutes.

To get this filter, you need to remove or unscrew the cap in the place where the hose is inserted. Access is different for different washing machines.

The dishwasher may not work due to a fuse preventing it from starting if the dishwasher door is not closed. Modern Boschch dishwashers have a special locking device that could break.To fix such a device, you will have to contact any service that repairs dishwashers.
Pouring water into the dishwasher can be hindered by a valve that simply does not open. A signal must be sent to the filler valve to open it. If the valve does not open, then you will have to buy a new part and replace the old one; no one fixes the broken valves.
Every dishwasher has a pressure switch - a special sensor that controls the water level in the dishwasher. It so happens that the pressure switch decides not to collect water at all. The problem is solved by replacing the broken part.
It should be understood that one device is responsible for everything in the washing machine - this is the control module

If the control module is out of order, then the dishwasher will not work correctly or will not work at all, if some important function is not being controlled. The control module sends signals to other parts of the dishwasher: draw water, drain water, start work and others

The problem can be solved by flashing the control module or by replacing this part.
In modern dishwashers, there are many systems that monitor the performance. Aquastop is one of them, it is designed to stop the water supply if there is a leak or its likelihood. It is likely that the dishwasher is not working due to a leak, the system simply stopped the water supply.

What else could break

Here we have compiled the most popular dishwasher problems. These problems are easiest to diagnose on your own, and their repair costs a penny. Quite often it happens that the cause of the breakdown cannot be found out without diagnostics, since it does not have any signs. If you opened the manual for the dishwasher, you probably noticed a point in which it is not recommended to try to repair the dishwasher yourself.

Pump breakdown is a common problem. With this problem, the dishwasher will make an incomprehensible noise that looks like a hum. To find out how water gets into the dishwasher, you just need to read the instruction manual for the household appliance.

Summing up, we can say that most breakdowns in a dishwasher can be diagnosed independently, but it is unlikely that it will be possible to fix them without preliminary preparation, here you will need the help of a specialist who has been doing this for a long time. Also remember that according to all indications, there may be one reason, but in fact another part broke.

What are dishwashers generally intended for? Naturally, in order to make life easier for you and me, because there is not always the strength and desire to wash the dishes, but just put it on, turn it on, and she washes herself. But what if your Bosch dishwasher won't turn on? What are the reasons and how to eliminate them, we will tell you in this article.

Dishwasher main device

If you want to know how the Indesit, Bosch, Electrolux dishwasher works or a dishwasher from any other brand, be sure to read the material to the end. We will start with the most important thing - with heart apparatus. It is a powerful motor, sometimes referred to as a circulation pump. ... It circulates water with detergent or rinse aid in a circle, taking it out of the working chamber and returning it through the rocker arms. The rocker arms serve as rotating spray nozzles.

The biggest element in a dishwasher is the cooking compartment. It is in it that the rocker arms are located, which play the role of washing elements. There are also baskets where dishes are placed. The baskets can be adjusted in height, and some manufacturers provide them with a transforming structure, which makes it easier to lay out kitchen utensils of non-standard sizes.

  • Filter - provides filtration and removal of solid contaminants (food residues);
  • Drain pump (aka drain pump) - removes dirty water outside the dishwasher;
  • Drain hose - its purpose is clear without any comments;
  • Aquastop - it is not present in all dishwashers, but it protects against leaks. The actuator of this unit is a solenoid valve located at the very end of the inlet hose.

Also in the device of any dishwasher there is the following bundle:

  • Inlet hose - it is connected to the water supply system, cold water enters the device through it (or hot, if someone connected the equipment to the hot water supply pipe);
  • Solenoid valve - participates in the filling of water, shutting off or opening its supply;
  • Water heater - classic or instantaneous. The latter helps to shorten the cycle times by heating the water instantly rather than gradually.

Please note that in front of the inlet hose there is a simple coarse filter in the form of a metal mesh. It plays an important role in the design of a household dishwasher, filtering out large contaminants that can enter the dishwasher from the water pipe.

As we can see, the device of dishwashers is extremely difficult. And all this despite the fact that we have not yet touched on a number of important organs, units and systems. Ion exchanger is a very important part responsible for water softening ... The fact is that salts dissolved in hard water interfere with normal washing. The exchanger, which works on the basis of a special ion-exchange resin, makes it possible to replace magnesium and calcium ions with sodium ions, as a result of which the water becomes softer.

In conjunction with the ion exchanger, a container is installed into which salt or substances replacing the salt are poured - they help to restore the amount of sodium ions in the ion exchange resin. Salt is taken from here in automatic mode, its amount depends on the settings set in the dishwasher. The container holds about 1 kg of special dishwasher salt.

In addition to all this, dishwashers have pressure switches (water level sensors), thermostats (determine the temperature of the washing mixture), various sensor sensors (in machines with automatic programs). Also, water intakes are installed here to collect water, there are numerous connecting hoses and clamps. The whole thing is wrapped in a case with effective sound insulation.

We forgot to mention the most important detail in the internal structure of any dishwasher - the control board, which is the "brain" for the entire filling. It is from her that the wires diverge to sensors and various electrical modules.

In conjunction with the board, a control module operates, on which knobs, buttons, indicators and other elements are located.

In older dishwashers, there were mechanical control modules. They are not used in modern technology - their device is built on the basis of electronics.

As for detergents and rinses, they are loaded into special dispensers - most often they are located in the loading doors. All-in-one tablets containing all the necessary chemistry are also placed here.

Preliminary check

Before proceeding with any troubleshooting steps, it is recommended to perform a number of check procedures:

It is necessary to check the connection to the electrical network. To do this, you need to make sure that the plug is plugged into the outlet. If this is not enough, you should check the wire by disconnecting the device from the power supply. Next, you need to make sure that there is current in the outlet, for which you can try to connect another electrical appliance. You should also make sure that the switch on the device is on.
The appliance door must be closed, make sure how tight it is. There may be a problem with the lock.
Check the water supply

The valve may be closed.
If none of these recommendations helps, you should pay attention to the car and the area around it: are there any smudges, some other oddities.
System pressure. Very often dishwashers refuse to work if the water supply pressure is low.

Therefore, it must be checked even before purchasing the device, which will avoid unnecessary expenses, and also immediately look for a way out.

The filler valve is broken

The reasons why water cannot enter the dishwasher may be related to the operation of the filler valve. This valve is a rather sensitive element of the dishwasher and even a pressure drop can damage it. In particular, manufacturers of Bosch dishwashers in the instructions for their products indicate recommendations for installing a dishwasher if the pressure in the water supply is higher than 1 MPa. In addition to flow-through cleaning filters, they recommend installing pressure reducing valves.

If there is no pressure reducing valve, and the water pressure is significant, then the dishwasher's own filling valve will quickly break down and either will not open at the right time, or, on the contrary, will remain open, and water will constantly flow into the machine. In this case, it is almost impossible to repair the valve, because the mechanism breaks down, you will have to change it. If the valve is simply clogged with dirt and does not open, then the problem is solved by conventional mechanical cleaning.

The water level sensor is to blame for everything.

  1. water will actually enter the dishwasher, but the control module will not know about it;
  2. the machine will overflow, and the pump will begin to pump out excess water in emergency mode;
  3. the control module, thinking that water does not enter the machine, issues a system error and stops the program.

It's easy to understand that this is exactly what happened to your dishwasher. Listen to if there is water in the dishwasher, if the pump is working, pumping out water, and if water is murmuring in the drain hose and pipe. If all this is the case, then the first version that will need to be checked is a breakdown of the pressure switch. You can read about how to check and replace the pressure switch in the corresponding article published on our website.

The first steps

To repair the dishwasher, you must dismantle it. To do this, you need to turn off communications: drain, water supply, power supply.

  • Test switches and doors for conductivity using a multimeter.
  • If the engine hums, but the machine does not start, it is necessary to disassemble it, check the engine, pump, make sure that there are no blockages. You can also check the drive belt.
  • Programmer does not work. If the program does not turn on, then the reason may be in the programmer. It is unlikely that it will be possible to fix it on your own. Therefore, with such a problem, it is better to immediately contact the service center.
  • No water flows into the chamber. We have already considered the option that the reason may be simple - the tap is closed. If it is open, then the hose should be checked, there may be a kink. There are cases when people have installed the device directly on the hose. You should also check the inlet filter, which could very well be clogged.

A little more can be said about the latter brand, since, despite the well-known reliability of the manufacturer's products, judging by the requests of users, the Bosch dishwasher does not turn on often enough. Its design has certain differences from the device of other dishwashers, however, in general, its principle of operation is similar to the operation of devices from other manufacturers.

Many are also interested in the question of what to do if the dishwasher of Bosch, Ariston, Electrolux, Siemens or other brands does not turn on after flooding? This most likely indicates that the problem is quite serious. Water could get on the contacts of electrical elements, as a result of which there was a violation of current transmission. Most often, in such situations, you cannot do without professional help.This will help you pinpoint the cause of the problem and then fix it.

In addition to how you can fix the machine, you can answer the question of why the dishwasher does not turn on or start by watching the video.

The dishwasher, although not a very complex technical device, breaks down quite often. This is evidenced by the huge number of user requests on the network. At the same time, some breakdowns are more common, some less often. And some are not typical dishwashers at all.

An atypical problem of turning on dishwashers is a breakdown when, when turned on to the power supply, the dishwasher does not turn on, and does not respond to pressing the buttons on the panel.

Caution - module breakage!

In no case should you repair the Bosch dishwasher with your own hands if the control module has failed in the appliance. This problem is rare, but the most serious. It is because of a malfunction in the electronics that the machine does not collect water.

In this case, you will need to remove the module and test it in the laboratory. Sometimes experts reflash it. If this does not give any results, then you will need to install a new one.

In the event of a breakdown, qualified employees of service centers strongly recommend not to diagnose the control module on your own, as this can lead to its final failure. Professionals will cope with this much faster and better. In the end, although the repairs will have to be paid, a guarantee for the work will be provided.

Features of functioning

Each model is characterized by its own characteristics, but all of them are united by the presence of certain standard modes. Therefore, a certain operating algorithm is similar for most models. The collection of water comes from the water supply; a salt softener is an intermediary. At the bottom of the equipment, as a rule, there is a compartment with brine.

After heating, the water is pumped into the working chamber, for which a pump is used. Sprayers are used to distribute the liquid. Waste water goes through two stages of purification, after which it is reused. At the end of the washing process, the waste water is discharged using a drain pump.

  • turbo drying;
  • condensation.

In the first case, a fan is used, which expels hot air with a high level of humidity, so the process is significantly accelerated. If condensation drying is used, the steam condenses on the cold walls, going down.

Typically, a standard cycle includes the following processes: pre and main wash, rinse and dry.

Water does not heat up to the correct temperature

Defects associated with the water heating function are encountered in the operation of the Bosch PMM less often than previous breakdowns. All of them are associated with incorrect operation of the electric heater.

Code

Description

E01

Open circuit in the heating element or violation of its contacts. The reason is the burned out electric heater. In addition, it is possible: an open circuit in the cable connections of the circuit, a malfunction of the triac in the computer board that controls the operation of the heating element

E2

The temperature sensor (hereinafter also referred to as the thermistor) is out of order, or its connection with the control unit is broken. The error can appear at the same time as E01

E09

This error appears only in those Bosch PMM models that have a flow heater built into the pump. Cause - damage to the heater or violation of the integrity of its circuit

E11

The thermistor turns off due to several reasons: open circuit, lack of supply voltage or broken contact in the connector or on the computer board

E12

Too much scale has formed on the surface of the heating element. Often after restarting the dishwasher (in order to reset this error), a breakdown code E09 appears

Indication of a malfunction of the electric heater built into the pump

To determine the integrity of the heater and electronic circuits, use the proven method - diagnose them with a multimeter.A serviceable heating element has a resistance of the order of several tens of Ohms. The resistance at the contacts of the temperature sensor should be within 50 kOhm. If, during testing, the device shows an open circuit or short circuit, the part must be replaced with a serviceable one.

In the event of an E12 defect, you can remove the scale on the heater by washing it with a vinegar or citric acid solution.

Clogged, pinched, damaged water supply hose

Symptoms: washing either does not start at all or takes too long.

Problems with the water supply hose lead to the same results as a clogged inlet filter: either the automation will turn off
washing due to low water pressure, or washing will drag on for centuries.

First, carry out a visual inspection of the hose: it should not be pinched anywhere and it should not have visible damage.
If puddles are visible next to the hose, this is a reason to check in those places for cracks in the hose.

If the hose is visually in order, it is better to disconnect it just in case and rinse it under a strong pressure of water, it is better together with
special detergents. To be sure that everything is in order with the hose, disconnect it from the machine and
plumbing, fill with water, and see if there are any leaks somewhere.

Causes of breakdowns

Most often, those components and elements of the dishwasher that are exposed to mechanical stress during operation, have a complex structure, or come into contact with poor-quality water fail. The causes of breakdowns are also associated with the listed factors.

Clogged filter

Tap water in our country is rarely absolutely clean. Various impurities, sand, rust and other garbage are regularly supplied to our houses and apartments along with water.

These contaminants can damage PMM, so all manufacturers provide in advance to protect their products from dirt. It is performed in the form of an input filter. Its mesh retains all the debris on itself, but after some time it can completely clog up and block the flow. Quite often, there is a hum, and the wash does not start.

In dishwashers, it is located on the inlet hose where it connects to the body. Accordingly, you need to unscrew it, having previously shut off the water supply to the riser.

External water supply problems

Problems arise not only due to the breakdown of the dishwasher, but also due to interruptions in the water supply. The water supply may be absent both in the water supply system itself and in the inlet hose.

A closed tap will also prevent the use of an automatic car wash.

Failure of "aquastop"

A breach of the tightness between the dishwasher units leads to the appearance of water in the pan. There is a leakage sensor. If it works and gives a signal, the control system will automatically stop filling with water.

Sometimes false positives occur when the sensor itself fails.

Door problems

The dishwasher door has a complex structure and problems with it are not uncommon. There may be several reasons for inoperability due to this:

  • the operation of the locking mechanism is disrupted and the door cannot be closed completely. Because of this, the sensor does not work and the device does not start;
  • the door lock has broken;
  • the closing sensor does not work.

Sometimes all of the above happens at the same time.

Failure of the pressure switch

The volume of water poured into the dishwasher is monitored by a special device - a pressure switch. It is through him that the control board gives commands to the beginning and end of the water supply. If it does not work correctly, then either the tank overflows and the "aquastop" is triggered, or the water flow does not start at all.

The cause of the malfunction may be mechanical damage or clogging of the pressure switch.

Failure of the control module

The control board is a complex electronic device consisting of several relays and many radio components. If at least one element fails, then the dishwasher may either not turn on at all, or start to work incorrectly, up to the failure of the water supply.

Due to the complexity of this unit, it is better to entrust the diagnosis to a specialist. To correctly determine the cause of the breakdown, you will need not only special equipment, but also experience in performing such work.

Hose bend

The inlet hose can be pinched, dirty, punctured, in which case it must be replaced so that water can flow back into the dishwasher.

Interesting!

Washing machines equipped with the "No Iron" or "Easy Iron" functions can wash your laundry without wrinkling it. This effect is achieved due to a special approach to spinning - it is performed at low speeds, with long pauses, and a small amount of water remains in the tank.

Problems with draining and filling water

During the draining and filling of water, a large number of malfunctions occur.
Possible errors of Bosch dishwashers during this process are displayed on the screen with the following block of codes:

1. Code E3 (F3) - lights up on the screen in case of failures with water filling. The executive program includes the time during which the machine is filled with water. If at the programmed time it is not typed, the machine stops.

To identify and eliminate the error, the following is checked:

  • the presence of water in the water supply;
  • the condition of the inlet filter;
  • serviceability of the intake valve;
  • serviceability of the sensor that determines the water level.

If the specified checks did not give results, then the pump is checked for performance.

2. Code E5 (F5) - displayed on the display when the tank is overfilled with water. First of all, this is due to the operation of the sensor that determines the water level.

To identify and eliminate the error, the following are checked:

  • the condition of the sensor tube for the absence of dirt;
  • serviceability of contacts and supply wires of the sensor;
  • serviceability of the filler valve for the absence of blockage, due to which the water is not completely blocked.

3. Code E8 (F8) - displayed on the display when the water level in the sump is low. If there is a lack of water, the circulation pump stops.

To eliminate the error, the recommendations of the E3 (F3) code described earlier are used.

4. Code Е16 (F16) - lights up on the screen when the tank is unauthorized filling with water. Most often this is due to a malfunction in the intake valve. For example, there was a blockage with debris, so it does not completely block the flow of water.

To identify and eliminate the error, the following is checked:

  • the condition of the intake valve;
  • serviceability of the sensor that determines the water level;
  • the absence of an increased amount of washing foam.

5. Code E17 (F17) - displayed on the display in case of problems with water intake. First of all, this is due to the increased water pressure in the water supply system. In this case, the normal operation of the water inlet valve is disrupted.

How to fix the error:

  • if the pressure increase is associated with a water hammer, then the dishwasher simply restarts;
  • the level of water pressure at the inlet of the machine is checked. The pressure is reduced by a valve on the riser;
  • the operability of the flow sensor is checked.

4. Code E21 (F21) - lights up on the screen when the drain pump stops. In this case, control commands are sent to it, but there is no drain.

How to fix the error:

  • the condition of the impeller is checked for jamming;
  • the condition of the bearings and the pump rotor is checked;
  • if necessary, replace the worn out pump.
