When buying a carpet, do not forget about such indicators as anchoring layer, pile length, composition and thickness of the base. From my own experience, I know that this material quickly accumulates dust and absorbs all odors. It is unlikely that it will be possible to get rid of them by simply airing the room. Therefore, it is not worth laying this flooring in the kitchen or in the hallway.
The pluses of the material include:
- high level of thermal insulation;
- versatility;
- electrostaticity;
- affordable cost;
- acoustic effect;
- ease of styling.
Types of carpet and features of their cleaning
The coating can be natural or artificial. Natural materials (linen, wool, cotton) are environmentally friendly, but caring for them is more laborious and for such a carpet you will have to pay an amount that exceeds the cost of a covering made of synthetic fibers. For example, vegetable jute is sensitive to sudden temperature changes, high humidity, and chemicals. Do not use liquid products to clean such a surface. Chemical powders are used for dry cleaning with an absorbent effect (Zorb - English, Carpet DryClean - Russian, or foaming (Emsal Turbo, Vanish, Amwey, Russian 5+) and a vacuum cleaner, especially if the coating has a long pile.
Textile carpet is also very sensitive, but it can be cleaned with a washing vacuum cleaner, using chemicals for wet cleaning. It is important that it dries well after cleaning, if necessary, dry it with a hairdryer.
Care should be taken to use a damp, adhesive-based carpet cleaner, as excessive moisture can dissolve the adhesive and lead to deformation of the coating.
It is much easier to care for products based on felt. They are usually made using man-made fibers, so they dry quickly when wet. You can get rid of dirt on such a carpet using the usual home methods discussed below.
A characteristic feature of the foam latex and rubber carpet is its impressive weight. They are most often placed in rooms where sound insulation is required. The material is capable of repelling liquid. For its processing, it is allowed to use all compounds for removing stains, except for those that can damage the base.
Carpet cleaning methods
How can carpet be cleaned? The range of funds is quite extensive. Every housewife has her own proven methods. In order not to be mistaken with the choice, you must take into account many factors. Among them are the material of manufacture of the floor covering and the nature of the pollution.
Cleaning can be wet or dry. To carry out the first, you will need a washing vacuum cleaner. The second involves the use of vacuum technology. In the absence of serious contamination, you can do without it. Carpet is an unpretentious material, but despite this, its service life depends on the quality of care.
Wet cleaning requires special detergents and a soft bristled brush. Dry processing is carried out using powder, soda, foam. For my part, I can supplement the list with talcum powder and potato starch.
Removing stains
When choosing a treatment method, you should be guided by the nature of the contamination.
Cause | Cleaning methods |
Tea | Blot the stain with a piece of cotton cloth. Then treat the stain with a mixture of glycerin and chopped salt in equal proportions. Dry the area with a hairdryer. |
Fruits Vegetables |
Make a mixture of ammonia and water. Be careful when handling dark colored carpet. To get rid of a specific odor, ventilate the room after cleaning. |
Chewing gum | Spread it over the stain and freeze it, for this you can use ice wrapped in cellophane.Then scrape off the gum and spray the area with a light vinegar solution. |
Stamp ink Ink |
Cover the stain with a thick layer of salt. Replace it with a clean one as it gets dirty. Then treat the area with acetic acid or alcohol. Drying is best done when the room is ventilated. |
Blood | You can use regular salt and ammonia. Remove foam from the latter with a dry cloth or napkins. |
Urine | Use special sprays. |
Tone cream Lipstick |
Since such cosmetics have a greasy structure, it is better to clean them as early as possible. To do this, use cotton napkins. Then wipe the area with undiluted rubbing alcohol. Dry the carpet with cold air from a hair dryer. |
Chocolate | Collect chocolate. Next, apply dishwashing detergent onto a damp sponge. Collect the foam with a clean cloth. |
Putty Plasticine |
Use a mixture of ethyl alcohol, glycerin and ammonia in equal proportions. Leave the solvent on the dirt for 10 minutes. Vacuum the cleaned area. |
Fat | Fine salt will only help clean fresh stains. After this treatment, wipe off the dirt with Vanish. Suitable for any carpet. |
Ketchup | Collect the remains with a dry cloth. Then treat the area with a mixture of hydrogen peroxide and baking soda. Be careful when handling natural wool carpets. |
Automotive grease | You will need a special shampoo and oil remover. The same effect can be achieved using a composition of ammonia, glycerin and alcohol. |
Shoe polish | In this case, start cleaning by spraying the area with nail polish remover or acetone. Then wash the stain with dish soap. |
Carpets should be purchased with a small margin. The pieces left after trimming you can use for testing.
How to get rid of carpet odors
Carpet quickly absorbs unpleasant odors. To get rid of them, you can use a perfumed cleanser. A cinnamon and baking soda mixture and baby powder are good alternatives. They should remain on the surface for 10-12 hours. At the last stage, be sure to wipe the coating with a damp sponge and vacuum.
