DIY PVC curtains
The construction market offers a wide variety of designs and types of curtains. However, many want to save money, especially those who like to do all sorts of crafts, and make curtains with their own hands. At the same time, the process does not take much time, and a handmade product is much more appreciated. Consider a master class on the example of creating combined PVC curtains. For work we need:
- transparent or any other color polyvinyl chloride film;
- fastening elements (staples, eyelets with a strap);
- soldering iron;
- scissors, tape measure, meter, hammer.
Sequential instruction:
- Depending on the installation method, we measure the window openings or the distance between the support posts, as well as from the place of attachment to the floor.
- According to the available dimensions, we cut out blanks from the transparent film, exactly under the window opening, or with a margin of 20 cm in width, for fastening to the supports. If the size of the film in width is less than the opening in question, then add 20 cm for each element from the side of the joint of the two canvases. We cut strips 20 cm wide from colored PVC.
- We are preparing a soldering iron. To do this, it is necessary to bend its sting by 90 ° with the help of two washers, fasten the wheel from a mechanical watch to the element bent at a right angle.
- We lay the transparent canvas on a surface that can withstand high temperatures. We fold the colored stripes in half and start them along the edges of the main film.
- Having heated the soldering iron, having tested it on an unnecessary piece of film, we proceed to the soldering. First, they are soldered on one side, it is advisable to put a ruler, which will allow you to get an even seam. We carefully guide the electric soldering iron along its edge. Next, turn the workpiece over to the other side and perform the same actions.
- We install eyelets on the canvas. To do this, we apply markings along the perimeter of the curtain with a step of 20 cm, thereby marking the places where the fasteners will be fixed. Using a punch and a hammer, make a hole at the first target point. Install the ring. Install the following fasteners in the same way.
- In the window or along the perimeter of the opening, we install brackets or straps on the self-tapping screws, fix the canvas.
Main purpose
If there is a gazebo on the site, it allows you to spend a lot of time outdoors. Here they have lunch and dinner, meet guests, celebrate birthdays, so it is useful at the planning stage to choose projects that can satisfy all these needs. You always want to decorate a ready-made gazebo, refine, make home-like cozy. The easiest way to do this is to hang curtains.
They will create a barrier for annoying insects, protect in the heat from the scorching sun, and shelter from bad weather. By hanging them, you can hide from prying eyes or disguise unsightly design details. The gazebo, decorated with curtains, becomes the centerpiece of the garden. This design helps create a special atmosphere for those around you. It softens the "silhouette" of the building and adds elegance. In addition, gazebo curtains increase the functionality of the interior space.
Manufacturers today offer a wide range of ready-made products that can be used for the designated purposes. They differ from each other by the material of manufacture, the form of sewing, and the design of the cut. But all street curtains are capable of demonstrating high wear resistance, resistance to fading. They do not support the burning of open flames, their surface repels dirt and water.
It will be expensive to buy curtains for a gazebo: they are sewn from materials whose properties meet all the requirements listed above. But such expenses are justified from an economic point of view: the products will last at least five seasons, throughout this time they will delight with their appearance and regularly serve as intended.If you choose cheap fabrics and sew curtains for an outdoor gazebo out of them, they will fray by the end of summer.
Today the curtains for the veranda and gazebo are sewn:
To decorate open spaces, you can also choose ready-made systems (soft PVC windows and Black Out).
Tissue
They are considered a classic decoration option. Linen, chiffon, organza are usually used for their manufacture. The materials are pretreated with water-repellent and dirt-repellent impregnations, so fabric products meet all the requirements of open space exploitation. They are traditionally used to decorate closed verandas, but they can also be used to decorate open gazebos.
Lightweight and airy materials help create a sense of freedom, which is beneficial for the atmosphere. The more massive the gazebo, the simpler the cut design should be, the denser the curtain fabrics should be. The lighter the structure, the more transparent the fabric. This principle allows you to make the right choice.
Tarpaulin curtains usually work on the roll-up principle. The web is wound on a strong shaft. He hides in a box upstairs. Management is carried out manually or automatically. Often such products are chosen when the weather is very changeable in the regions, when there is no desire to build a separate closed veranda for receiving guests and get along, which is called small funds. I raised such a curtain in sunny weather, and it is very pleasant to relax in nature. It started raining, the wind blew, pulled down the curtain, and protected myself and the guests from the bad weather.
Bamboo curtains are ideal veranda and terrace curtains and are worth buying if you want to create a special stylistic space. They can be of different designs. There are models that work like ordinary rolled products, others, like screens, gathering like a book, and still others look more like wall panels than curtains. One thing remains unchanged - the material of manufacture. Bamboo is not afraid of sunlight, it does not fade in the sun for a long time, it practically does not absorb moisture, therefore it is ideal for decorating open spaces.
Soft PVC windows can be completely transparent or translucent, combined, with patterns, ornaments. They are very practical, easy to use and inexpensive. But they look unattractive. In fact, outwardly, such products are similar to tinted polyethylene. It fits very badly into the classic design style. But such a decision is fully justified in the gazebos, created according to the project of modern concepts.
About sizes
When choosing a canvas, it is necessary to decide not only on its appearance, model, material of manufacture, inherent properties, but also on dimensions. Curtains with correctly selected parameters will help to emphasize the appearance of the room, hide minor flaws. If the height and width of the product are determined incorrectly, then even the most beautiful options will ruin the stylish structure.
Sizes for curtains made from different raw materials will vary. Also, the method of their fastening, the type and design features of the structure play an important role. For example, for glazed verandas, fabric curtains can be hung on a cornice fixed to the ceiling or walls in three standard ways: to the floor, to the windowsill, below the windowsill. For open structures, without side partitions, it is better to use options that extend to the floor covering, or blinds, blinds, which can be fixed at any distance from the floor, completely or partially enclose the room.
For roller blinds, the parameters depend on the installation method. If they are located directly between the support posts, then their width is determined by the exact distance between the elements, taking into account the guides. When installing curtains behind the supporting supports, or in front of them, they should be 10-20 cm larger than the opening, completely cover it in order to maximally protect the space from the penetration of light and moisture. Also, the canvas should be of such a length that it reaches the floor surface with a small margin.When the structure is located on the window, it can go beyond its limits, cover only the transparent part.
For fabric options, the height is measured from the place of their installation to the floor covering with an indentation of 1-4 cm. Some people hang longer products, partially lying on the floor. The width is determined based on the dimensions of the opening in question, the need for folds on the curtain, usually for fabric models it is 1.5 or more times larger than the window or the inter-support distance. It is better to install the tarpaulin tightly.
Outdoor blinds on the veranda or gazebo
Street curtains have not only an aesthetic function, decorating the design of a building, but also make it possible to solve some important problems:
- Protect people from the scorching sun, rain or insects;
- Possible flaws in the design of the gazebo or veranda are hidden, as well as elegantly emphasize the advantages;
- When the cold days come, closing wooden horizontal blinds will help keep the interior warm and comfortable.
Venetian blinds
On the modern market, there are a large number of different blinds for gazebos and verandas. They can be made of fabric, PVC, wood or presented as a protective tarpaulin. If you understand the advantages and disadvantages of such street curtains, you can greatly facilitate the process of finding suitable blinds that will fully justify your needs.
Blinds for a gazebo with your own hands made of fabric
Street curtains for a veranda made of plain textiles can be made with your own hands in a very short time. This is an excellent solution for a gazebo, as such blinds allow fresh air to circulate, which creates a comfortable environment for relaxation. The most attractive solutions are made from materials such as silk, organza or chiffon. Denser types of fabrics, such as linen and canvas, are best designed in the form of Roman curtains, forming organic folds with the help of materials at hand.

Rolled curtains made from natural raw materials such as bamboo, hemp, etc., make it possible to highlight the environmental friendliness of your gazebo, as well as blend in more harmoniously with the environment. Such curtains for wooden buildings look most impressive. You just need to look at the photos of ready-made solutions to see how attractive this option is.

However, these curtains are good only in the warm season. They will do little to protect against wind or rain. Their service life is also relatively short: they are unlikely to last longer than 6 seasons.
Wooden blinds for gazebos
If the street gazebo has metal-plastic windows, then it is best to arrange horizontal shutters for them, which are made of aluminum lamellas treated with a special protective coating. There is a wide variety of such models, so you can easily find the most suitable solution for yourself.
Venetian blinds with oak slats
Blinds made of natural materials
Blinds made of natural materials are environmentally friendly, have anti-allergenic properties, do not absorb dust and do not fade in the sun.
Blinds made of natural materials look the most organic inside a wooden gazebo. Wooden slats (oak, cherry, maple, beech) add warmth and comfort to the interior.
Rolled wicker blinds look stylish: reed, straw, bamboo, wicker wood. Multi-textured curtains have practicality: rubberized cotton fabric or wood with plastic. Wood is also used for facade blinds. Rafters with wooden lamellas give the appearance of the building features of comfort and solidity.
Outside blinds are made up of special plates called lamellas. Various materials are used for their manufacture.
Fabric slats
Fabric blinds differ in density and type of base fabric. Transparent samples on the north windows can visually enlarge the terrace room.
Wooden blinds
These products are classified as "premium" due to the high price of natural material.
Before installing it in the openings of an open veranda, it is imperative to process the wood with special compounds. This allows you to protect external wooden blinds from bark beetles and moisture.

Bamboo slats
Admirers of oriental culture will undoubtedly appreciate the protective curtains made of bamboo slats. Exotic blinds made of vertical wicker and horizontal slats are not cheap, but the high price is justified by the extreme durability of the products.
Metal blinds construction
Protective external blinds or roller shutters, as they are also called, are systems that are used for window and door openings outside the building. The canvas itself moves along the guides. When it rises up, it rolls up into a roll in a closed system. Such a roll does not take up much space and is completely protected from external influences by a metal box. Such blinds are controlled using a manual or electric drive.
Important! The roll-up blinds cannot be lifted from the street side.
The design of external blinds consists of several elements. It:
- The canvas itself, which consists of horizontally located lamellas, made of hollow or solid elements. Inside the first option, there are additional stiffeners. The second type does not have such stiffeners inside, but it gives more heat and sound insulation.
- The lamellas are fixed to each other with hooks.
- Guides, which are a kind of rails along which the canvas moves.
- A metal box in which the blinds mechanism itself and the lamellas rolled into a roll are located.
- The shaft through which the shutters move.
- Bearings.
As mentioned earlier, external protective blinds for windows differ in cost and you can choose the option most suitable for a certain budget. But why is this happening? The cost of the system depends on the material of execution, the size of the lamellas, the version of the control mechanism and the weight of the blade.
Protective box
When choosing metal blinds, special attention should be paid to the device of the box in which the twisting drum is located. Since metal blinds are located, in most cases, outside the room and perform anti-vandal and barrier functions, the choice of the box and the method of installation significantly affect not only protective, but also decorative functions.
A variety of colors of lamellas and boxes make it possible to successfully combine them with the color and texture of the building facade. For metal blinds with a twisting mechanism hidden in the construction of the window covering or under the decorative elements of the facade of the building, the dissonance that can be introduced by noticeable and protruding outward protective boxes is completely eliminated. Such external metal blinds can be installed on the windows of buildings that are architectural monuments or objects of cultural heritage without fear of opposition from the regulatory authorities.
The protective boxes protruding from the building facade are made of steel sheet. Their main purpose is to protect the web and the rolling mechanism from precipitation and street dust. They are painted in the color of the blinds.In some cases, they can repeat the color or texture of the facade, making them less visible.
Louver guide rails
Unlike indoor window blinds, all outdoor anti-vandal blinds have metal tires, in which the ends of metal slats slide. It is the guide rails that, along with the lamellas, are the main protective element that prevents free access to the room.
Depending on the design, the guide rails of metal blinds can be located outside - along the edges of the window (door) opening, or be hidden. The material for their manufacture is a profile made of high-strength stamped steel of a complex profile, resistant to mechanical stress and atmospheric precipitation.
In the lower bar of the guide rails, and sometimes in the side ones, there is a locking mechanism for the blinds, which blocks the possibility of opening them without using a key.
External metal shutters
Shutters-blinds - an external structure for a window, combining two elements. They can be made from any material, but metal is most often used, since such shutters have not only decorative, but also protective functions.
They perfectly protect the house from the penetration of thieves through the window, look aesthetically pleasing in the open and closed; in the hot season, they will keep the room cool and fresh. Unlike conventional shutters, roller shutters provide adequate lighting in rooms. They can be installed on both plastic and wooden frames. In addition, they will give PVC windows additional soundproofing properties.
Stylish metal shutters will not only protect the house from burglars and vandals, but also perfectly decorate the facade of the building.
They are installed in cases where it becomes necessary to protect windows from penetration. The cheap option - to mount the grille - is not suitable for those who are concerned with the aesthetic side of the issue. Shutters-shutters are necessary for owners of country and country cottages, residents of apartment buildings, whose apartments are located on the ground floor. Often they are installed by the owners of restaurants, cafes and shops, who prefer not to frighten prison-type clients with bars.
Shutters-blinds can have different colors, which allows you to match this detail to the overall design of a house or institution. There are designs that are located on the inside of the window, but they are less common, since in this case the protection of the glass and frame is not guaranteed.
Informed choice - metal roller shutters
In open gazebos
The blinds are especially durable blinds that we install only outside: they will protect you from rain and wind.
The classics welcomes blinds made of solid natural materials.
In the summer we use fabric slats here.
In cold weather we will install outdoor wooden or plastic ones, while in large buildings we will equip them with electric lifts.
For a glazed gazebo, street blinds are not needed, so we choose only material, colors that are in harmony with the style and color scheme.
At the same time, designers give the main attention to texture and materials, because in a glazed room it is these light-protective devices that catch our eyes.
The most natural look here are thread, fabric lamellas, as well as curtains of wood textures.
Installation of roller shutters for gazebos
The most reliable way to protect the garden house from unwanted visitors is to install external metal roller shutters. At the same time, the issue of protecting the glazing of the gazebo, if any, is being resolved. Before you start looking for blinds, you should understand their varieties.
Metal roller shutters are the most reliable option to protect the garden house from unwanted visitors.
Roller shutters are:
- Classic - the most vandal-resistant products. They are made of steel or aluminum with a thickness of elements - 1.5-2 mm, withstand blows with a sledgehammer. Absolutely do not let light through.
- Lattice - have a similar design, but the links of the canvas are made with through cuts, so that there will be no pitch darkness in the room after the shutters are lowered. Their strength is somewhat lower.
- Transparent - let in scattered light - made of durable polycarbonate or polyvinyl chloride (PVC). Designed to protect mainly from bad weather, although they can withstand even a few not very strong blows.
- Inspection shutters can have 3 positions: open, closed, finally - view (links are rotated 90 °). The most expensive of those described.
When ordering roller shutters, you need to specify only 2 sizes: the width and height of the window opening. A construction tape is enough for this. Installation of ready-made fences does not cause any particular difficulties. Tools required:
- electric drill;
- screwdriver;
- level;
- ladder.
Installation of vertical devices
A guide cornice equipped with a sliding mechanism is the main part of the design of vertical blinds. From its installation, the fastening of protective devices begins:
- so that the lamellas do not touch the frame, when marking, they provide the necessary distance of 6 cm between the plates and the guide;
- the central screw is released, after which the brackets are adjusted in accordance with their size;
- on the frame or bracket with a pitch of 50 cm, special clamps for nuts and screws are fixed, on which the guide is subsequently attached;
- the cornice is brought into the clamp until the final click - the guide is installed;
- lamellas are fixed with special hinges on latches when the canvas is open;
- the final step is to attach a plumb line to the cord that controls the shutter mechanism.
Vertical blinds consist of a guiding cornice with a sliding mechanism that also rotates the system.
We fix vertical blinds with our own hands and in 2 stages:
- installation of the eaves with its guiding device;
- fastening of lamellas.

- When marking, we will mark exactly the distance between the guide and the frame - 6 cm (then the material does not touch the frame).
- We adjust the brackets in length by loosening the central screw.
- We will place the clamps on the nuts and screws for fastening the rail at a distance of 50 cm from each other: we can place them on the bracket or on the frame.
- We mount the guide by pushing the cornice into the clamp until it clicks.
- The lamellas in the mechanism turn, and the canvas opens. We insert them separately: after all, each strip has a loop for a latch.
- A special instruction indicates that the seam is not visible when positioned correctly when closed.
- We attach a plumb line to the cord from the kit to control the blinds.
Device mounting options
Varieties
Slats are the main component of blinds. They can be made from a variety of materials. Each option has its own advantages.
There are many types of blinds
Here are the most popular representatives:
- Thread. A very popular choice among modern blinds manufacturers. Such a simple device provides good sun protection without blocking the air flow from an open window. A great option in the summer and for a romantic atmosphere in the room.
- Fabric. Good for gazebos. In terms of style, there are more classic ones - products from stripes or a single piece. Perfect for gazebos in Japanese or Egyptian colors. Cost effective option.
- Wooden. An expensive option for country estates. The most reliable protection from the sun's rays and wind currents. Natural material will give the gazebo home comfort and a warm atmosphere.
- Bamboo. The advantage of this material is durability.Bamboo lamellas are moisture resistant and withstand high temperatures well. A wide choice to match the overall interior thanks to the various weaves and bamboo planks bundles.
- Multifacture. The right choice if, instead of the same type of design, the originality of the decor of the room is important. Products of this kind are made from a combination of various fabrics, with different densities, patterns and textures.
- Polyvinyl chloride, aka PVC. A type of curtain designed to conserve heat in cold seasons. The design of such products is a sheet of waterproof film and a fastening system. They come in transparent or printed patterns.
- Metallic. The simplest option for window blinds. Aluminum is the predominantly used material.
Gazebo blinds: a variety of materials and installation methods - House Design
Country house owners strive to decorate their plot with beautiful and functional buildings (verandas and terraces). Open or glazed outbuildings in dry, cloudy, calm weather are an excellent place to relax alone or with friends.
But even the slightest changes in the weather make it uncomfortable to stay away from home. To protect the serenity of being away from the bustle of the city, street blinds on the veranda help, the choice of which should be given enough attention.
To do this, it is necessary to study existing materials, designs and the nuances of their application.
Gazebo blinds
When building closed gazebos, you inevitably have to solve the issue of regulating access to sunlight. Such gazebos are often equipped with a barbecue, a hearth or even a stove can be equipped in them, which performs the functions of heating the room. Therefore, closed gazebos are used all year round and are more reminiscent of small residential buildings.
Accordingly, each such structure has several windows that must be closed from the sun. And blinds for gazebos of this type are the best option.
Installing blinds for the gazebo allows you to adjust the flow of sun light at your discretion. At the same time, it is the blinds that will be the most inexpensive way to close the windows of the gazebo.
It is especially important that the blinds for the gazebo can be made of different materials and even independently.
Using wallpaper
Homemade gazebo blinds can be made from ordinary thick wallpaper. Of course, they can only be placed indoors and should not be allowed to come into contact with moisture. But such products will perfectly cope with the task of shading. They are cheap as they can be made from leftover wallpaper fragments. In addition, they can always be replaced with others by updating the interior of the gazebo.
The technique of creating blinds from dense wallpaper should be considered step by step:
- The blinds on the veranda or gazebo should be about 15 cm wider than the window leaf on each side. Accordingly, you need to cut the desired piece of wallpaper. In length, such a fragment should exceed the height of the window by 30 cm. The wallpaper is cut with ordinary scissors along a line that must be marked in advance with a ruler;
- The resulting wallpaper sheet should be folded in the form of an accordion. Each horizontal line should be made 4 - 6 cm. This will be enough for beautiful and functional blinds;
- On the side of the said accordion, you need to carefully make holes with an awl. The hole should run along the entire piece of canvas from the top to the bottom edge. A strong thread or thin cord must be pulled into this hole;
- You can use double-sided tape to fix the canvas to the wall surface. It is ideal because it will secure the canvas firmly and will not take up unnecessary space. In addition, there will be no need to create any additional structures;
- The cord must be passed downwards and the end stop and the retainer must be fixed on it.These elements allow you to control the canvas and raise or lower the blinds.
The disadvantage of this option is the relative fragility of the blinds. They will absorb dust, get dirty and cannot be cleaned. On the other hand, such blinds can be easily replaced with any others.
