Magnolia sulange - care for young seedlings

The flowering plant, which occupies a significant place in the genus Magnolia, was bred in 1820 by the founder of the French Agricultural Institute, Etienne Soulange, who managed to cross the nude magnolia and the lily magnolia. The resulting hybrid took the surname of its "parent". Since then, the magnolia of Soulange has occupied not the last place in the decoration of plots (landscape design).

Magnolia Sulange is one of the types of magnolia crops that are quite easy to cultivate. At the age of 2-3 years, the plant is quite shade-tolerant, but, as it "matures", it requires more sunlight.

If you purchased a Soulange magnolia sapling, then you must:

  • At first, create a light shade for him
  • The type of soil in which you will plant it does not really matter.
  • Additionally, what can be taken into account for the soil: purity and freshness, moisture and fertility, permeability and slight acidification. Then the magnolia will delight you with its flowers for a long time.
  • Choose a sunny place so that after a few days of acclimatization in shade, the artificial canopy can be removed
  • Do not plant the Soulange magnolia in places where a through wind often blows, and in winter significant cold winds may blow.

Magnolia seedlings take root fairly quickly and are able to withstand various adverse conditions. They overwinter in temperate climatic zones quite calmly. Even late frosts, which can damage flowers, generally do not affect the plant.

If you plant the Soulange magnolia in areas where winter frosts are below -25 degrees, then you just have to wrap the trunk of the plant in two layers of burlap for the winter.

When planting in arid regions, it will be necessary to monitor the soil moisture, but the main thing is not to pour in an excessive amount of liquid so that there is no stagnation of water.
