The ash tree in my garden is a brave knight, protector from the wild winds
Many peoples revere ash, not only as a raw material for wood, but also a talisman plant, the spirit of which drives away poisonous snakes and to which the Caucasian mountaineers sacrificed gifts: milk, cheese, and other products. Ash also served our ancestors as a medicinal plant, from which bark, buds and leaves were collected. Decoctions of these ingredients were used to treat rheumatism and fever. And in Sweden, an ash tree was necessarily planted near the house to protect the family from all sorts of illnesses and failures. We also often grow it in roadside plantings, parks and private gardens.
A powerful deciduous tree, ash can reach a height of 30 meters. This giant loves open sunny places, fertile soil and does not tolerate stagnant moisture, dust and gas resistant (at least its most common varieties). It will create you a reliable shelter from the summer heat, and in windy autumn will protect the yard from stormy gusts and drafts. Ash bark has a pleasant smell, similar to that of freshly cut hay. Thanks to this property, it is very pleasant to rest under it.
It has beautiful openwork leaves and winged achenes - fruits that bullfinches love to feast on in winter. The main advantage over other trees is fast growth. In addition, they say that ash firewood burns even when wet and gives off a lot of heat.
This genus has about 50 plant species. Ash trees live up to three hundred years. When growing this tree, if possible, avoid pruning that the seedling does not tolerate, or at least keep it to a minimum. But feeding with organic fertilizers, watering in the heat, ash will always be perceived positively.
