Winter-hardy cherry - description of species

As a rule, sweet cherry is a heat-loving plant and mainly grows in the south. However, skilled agronomists were able to develop several varieties of sweet cherries that are resistant to frost (up to 35 degrees below zero).

Winter-hardy sweet cherry can withstand frosts usually in two ways - frost resistance of flower buds and frost resistance of wood. Both types include the following types of cherries:

• Fatezh are low-growing trees, the foliage of which eventually hangs down to the very ground. Very high winter hardiness, even flowers do not care about spring frosts. This type of sweet cherry bears fruit already in the second year of planting. With age, the weight of the crop reaches 50 kg per tree.
• Bryansk pink - winter-hardy sweet cherry of medium height, resistant to weather conditions such as sunburn, prolonged high humidity (rot does not appear), frost cracks. Fruits of a pronounced pink color, the pulp is dense and juicy, the weight of the berries is on average up to 6 grams.
• Jealousy - stands out for the high endurance of flower buds, is not affected by coccomycosis and clasternosporia, moreover, sunburn. Bears fruit consistently and annually. The berry reaches 9 grams, the color is dark red, the ripe fruits reach black.
• Iput is a cherry of early ripening, the stability of the tree and flower buds is observed. Bears fruit abundantly and constantly. The berries are large, juicy, red, turning into black when fully ripe.

In addition to the above varieties, Tyutchevka and Veda have winter hardiness. However, remember that all these varieties do not pollinate on their own, for this you need to have several other varieties in the garden. For example, Crimean and Chermashnaya are suitable for Fatezh.
