Winged euonymus
Winged Euonymus is a deciduous shrub from the Euonymus family. The height of the spindle tree reaches 1.8 meters. Creeping shoots, tetrahedral. The leaves are up to seven centimeters long and one to three centimeters wide. The shape of the leaves is obovate or elliptical, pointed, along the edge of the leaves are serrate, shiny, dense, without pubescence. The petiole is about three millimeters.
Winged euonymus blooms in May and June. Euonymus has simple, three-flowered inflorescences or single flowers. Petals 3-4 mm long, broadly ovate. The fruit is a purple box.
It is not difficult to grow winged euonymus. The euonymus is unpretentious to the light regime. It can grow in partial shade and in lighted places. For a houseplant, the ideal temperature is 18-22 degrees in summer, and 8-10 degrees in winter. The room needs to be ventilated periodically, but drafts should not be allowed. In summer, the euonymus needs sufficient watering, but moisture should not stagnate at the roots. Spray the leaves of the euonymus once a week. Once a month, the plant is fed with mineral fertilizers. In the spring, the upper shoots are trimmed and pinched, this contributes to an increase in the density of the shrub.
Young plants need to be transplanted annually, and large plants are transplanted every three years. Euonymus is propagated by cuttings, seeds, dividing the bush and layering. Fruiting euonymus for 4-5 years. Plant pests are scale insects, aphids and mealybugs.
Euonymus is used for decoration and hedges are formed from it.
The main disadvantage is that it does not bloom throughout the summer. But in general, it is quite suitable for a decorative hedge.
