  • You need to place a tropical guest in a warm room with abundant lighting and without sudden changes in temperature.
  • In winter, the plant needs rest with the temperature dropping to 12 degrees.
  • The flower should be removed from dormancy gradually in order to avoid burns of young leaves.
  • An important condition for keeping is irrigation - it should be abundant in the summer season and supportive - during the dormant period in winter. It is important to maintain the interval between waterings and allow the soil to dry out.

Selenicereus

Selenicereus

This plant belongs to the genus of cacti that arrived from the forest and rocky areas of South America. The body of Selenicereus is represented by thin multi-ribbed cascading shoots, on which aerial roots-attachments are formed, with the help of which the plant is strengthened on any supports.

In mid-spring, flower buds begin to form on the shoots. They are small fluffy balls that gradually grow and turn into huge buds. Flowers up to 35 cm in diameter open in the evening, filling the space with a thick vanilla aroma. The flowers are composed of multiple white petals with gilded sepals.

Blooming lasts only one night.

How to properly care for a plant:

  • Selenicereus prefers brightly lit places and easily tolerates the influence of direct sunlight, but react painfully to the slightest drafts and sudden temperature changes.
  • Watering should be carried out as needed - after the soil has completely dried out. The plant does not need spraying, but periodically it should be given a light warm shower to wash off the dust.
  • Selenicereus should be planted in a fertile, but light and loose soil mixture. Soil is good for cacti.

Phalaenopsis white

Phalaenopsis white

This is the simplest and most unpretentious member of the family orchids is the most popular. Phalaenopsis white is able to bloom almost all year round, because flower buds bloom gradually, and each snow-white butterfly flower lives from two to three months. The flower can form up to four peduncles, each of which has 6-12 buds.

Phalaenopsis has a short stem and long oval leaves of dense texture, growing from a single point. The orchid does not seek to build up the green mass and, releasing a new leaf, it discards one of the old ones. Therefore, more than six leaves can rarely be observed on a plant. A special feature of the orchid is that it produces fleshy aerial roots of a greenish flower that can form even in the leaf axils.

The average life expectancy of Phalaenopsis is about seven years, during which the flower needs high-quality care:

  1. You can place the orchid in the back of the room, with enough diffused light. The optimal daylight hours are 14 hours. Therefore, you should take care of artificial lighting... A suitable temperature for keeping a flower is 23-25 degrees.
  2. Watering Phalaenopsis must be correct so that drops of water do not fall on the leaves, especially in the center of the outlet. Excessive moisture leads to plant decay. Irrigation procedures are carried out by means of water mist or by immersion, when the flower collects the required amount of moisture through the drainage hole. If water does get into the outlet, then it must be dried with a paper napkin.
  3. The butterfly orchid needs regular feeding throughout the season. Special fertilizers are applied 30 minutes after watering. When choosing a top dressing, you should pay attention to its composition, if the fertilizer contains components that stimulate the formation of buds, then only healthy and developed specimens can be fed to them.
  4. In the soil for orchids, the presence of the bark of conifers is required. The plant is transplanted every two to three years, or when the roots are completely entwined with an earthen ball and begin to rise above the pot. The procedure is carried out after the end of flowering.

It is rather troublesome to look after such a "Snow White" because she is capricious. But, if Phalaenopsis likes the conditions of detention, he will thank him with lush and long flowering.

Zephyranthes

Zephyranthes

Zephyranthes popularly called an upstart, because its peduncles develop very quickly and often appear before the leaves. At home, the flower begins to bloom after the seasonal torrential rains brought by the westerly wind, therefore literally the name of the plant is translated as "flower of the westerly winds."

Zephyranthes flowers appear singly and look like white lilies or crocuses.

Zephyranthes can rarely be found on windowsills, although this plant is absolutely unpretentious:

  • The flower is best placed in well-lit rooms on the southwest side of the house. And for the summer season, the upstart can be moved to the veranda.
  • The optimum temperature for keeping in the summer is 29-23 degrees, and in the winter - 11-13 degrees.
  • Irrigation procedures should be regular and abundant. But you can not allow stagnation of water in the pot. After flowering, watering should be reduced and the plants should be allowed to drink, only after the top layer of the soil has dried.
  • Top dressing should be applied during the growing season and flowering in the form of a solution complex mineral fertilizers with an interval of two weeks.
  • The plant is transplanted annually, because many bulb babies are formed during the season and Zephyranthes becomes cramped in the pot. The procedure should be carried out at the beginning of the rest period.

Eucharis - Amazonian lily

Eucharis - Amazonian lily

Eucharis begins to bloom at the end of winter. From the dense foliage, a long peduncle appears, at the top of which there are 3-10 flowers, collected in inflorescences. The flowers open up alternately and are similar in structure to daffodils. Around the fused crown with stamens growing from it, there are two rows of wide-open oval white petals. The middle of the flower can be painted in light green or yellowish tones.

Eucharis leaves grow as a rosette from the ground. One onion produces from two to seven large leaves of a rich emerald color. The leaf plates can be up to 50 cm long and 20 cm wide. Their surface is slightly wrinkled and relief veins are clearly visible on it. The foliage remains on the plant throughout the year.

To grow Eucharis on the windowsill, you do not need to make any special efforts, it is enough to provide the plant with comfortable living conditions:

  • The flower prefers diffused light or partial shade. Feels great on the windows of the western part of the house at a temperature of 22-28 degrees.
  • When watering, it is important to prevent waterlogging of the soil and the ingress of liquid on flowers.
  • During the growing season and during flowering, Eucharis needs to be given complex feeding for flowering plants every two weeks.
  • At high air temperatures, the plant must be sprayed daily, but at the same time make sure that moisture does not accumulate on the inflorescences and at the base of the leaves. Also, the flower reacts painfully to drafts and temperature changes.

Also in indoor floriculture are widespread Spathiphyllum - with flowers that look like white sails and Hymenokallis, which bloom with exquisite snow-white flowers, exuding a pleasant aroma. There are other ornamental plants that combine not only snow-white flowering, but also spectacular foliage. Therefore, they are very popular among flower growers.

Selenicereus is an amazingly beautiful cactus. Once they heard on TV that it blooms in the botanical garden that night and went to see this miracle. Extraordinary beauty. But I think that it is not suitable for home cultivation.

The white cyclamen looks very noble and solemn, but it is difficult for me to grow this flower because of the dry and warm air in the apartment. But my white geranium grows well and pleases with its double flowers.
