Dogwood garden and caring for him
Garden dogwood is an ancient cultivated plant. The Greeks grew it in the Crimea even before our era, made juice and wine from it. In the wild, this plant in our country is found in the foothills of the Caucasus. Garden dogwood is grown in the southern regions. Some gardeners of the middle lane also cultivate it, but here this tree does not bear fruit regularly. It blooms very early and is often hampered by spring frosts.
Dogwood loves fertile, loose, well-drained soils, but it can grow on other types of soils, just its yield will be less. They respond well to the presence of lime in the soil. The plant is durable, bears fruit for 200-300 years, so the seedlings are planted at a distance of at least 6 meters from each other. You need to plant at least two plants so that there is a possibility of cross-pollination. In a small garden. where there is no room for a second tree, trees are simply grafted into the tree for cross-pollination.
Garden dogwood is sensitive to fertilizers, so they are not applied when planting. A hole is dug not deep, on two bayonets, a plant is placed there, spreading the roots, and covered with fertile soil, and then watered and mulched. In the first years of life, the dogwood needs shading. It does not require pruning, only "wild" side shoots and broken branches are removed. Of course, you need to loosen the soil and remove weeds, and in dry periods - water the plant. The plant begins to bear fruit from about the age of 10 years. But then it bears fruit every year, without interruption.
